This wall box was very secure after mounting. It does have a flange that protrudes slightly out from drywall that can prevent a fixture from seating completely against drywall.
I needed a certain size for a ceiling light and this was the only one that would fit. I had to drill the hole out for the wires, but it works well so far.
This boxes will do if your in a pinch, I don’t really like them because they are very shallow and have a big outer edge that sticks up and doesn’t lay as flat.
Needed to replace a broken ceiling fixture box, so as to put up a new light fixture. This was the right size box for my needs. Ended up drilling a hole in the box to set it into the ceiling and it worked very well. Good solid fiberglass.
Perfect for finished basement ceiling that the builder had previously just drilled a hole to pass romex for flourescent lamp fixtures. Now I can mount a standard light fixture.
The form factor and various mounting options of the box are great. For example, I needed to mount this box into 1 1/2" thick tongue and groove siding. Cutting a 3 1/2" hole allowed me to surface mount the box by screwing into the wood and removing the wing brackets. The only problem I see with the makeup of this box are the fixture mounting holes. For my purpose the worked as expected durning initial install. I decided after the fact to add a couple more fixtures, which required to remove a fixture to make a wiring extenion to the extra fixtures. When i tried to resecure the fixture the mounting hole would no longer take the existing screw because of the fiberglass. I was able to fix this by using longer screws, but in my opinion, if I had to remove this fixture again, I would need to completely replace the box in order for the fixture to mount back ot the box.
worked great to replace old exterior light boxes. The metal tension bracket fits snug into the stucco allowing the box to fit tight to the house. easy to install.
Super easy to install. Drill or cut the opening and just push in the unit. However, I needed to find a couple of screws that is longer than what’s included in order to accommodate the thickness of the wall, so be prepared.
Good durability and I really like the K pressure clips but it didn’t fit for all fixtures. Had to drill a small hole to attach a generic light fixture.
Says it's rated at 15lb. Does not sit "as flush" with the finish surface as old work boxes with a lesser weight rating. That's the trade off.
We bought this cut in box because of the old school clamp on the back as it turned out, I errored and had to remove the metal clamp and attach the box directly to truss tail I drilled into but worked like a champ as the box is strong enough to attach without the mounting metal clamp!
Works well. Fixes to the dry wall well with the bracket round the back. Just be careful to not unscrew that as it's useless without it.
This thing is a pain to work with
After installing it, it seems non of the mounting plate holes align with holes that are in the box. For those that align, the screws just go in and out of the holes.
Strong Fiberglass shell and high quality knockouts
This is a superior alternative to the plastic blue electrical junction boxes which will lose their fins in the wall. The description wrongly states it's 3.25", which it's not it's 4" diameter. You tighten the screws and the two fins close over the drywal so you have to cut the walls exactly the size of the box for it to work.
Perfect for mounting a light fixture between studs
This is a strong Fiberglas electrical box which is rated to support 15 lbs. It has a noticeable flange which protrudes on the surface of the wallboard. It helps with the support.
This was a great box, I was looking for plastic...
This was a great box, I was looking for plastic but this was the only round box available and it was great. Install went super easy and they are super strong. Did I mention they were made in the USA. Great product, would purchase again.
Screw holes strip out
I was able to install this just fine, but when I went to install the light, the screw holes stripped and I couldn't tighten the screws. I rotated the fixture to use the other set of screw holes and the same thing happened. I found some larger screws and made it work, but I would not buy this again.
Worked Great
I bought this and a 3 5/8” hole saw to install 4 wall lights. It fit perfectly. I would recommend screwing this in by hand and not with a drill. That metal blade in the back will cut through the drywall if you’re not careful. So doing this by hand makes it a no brainer. One review complained about no grounding screw. This is a non conductive fiberglass box. You don’t need to ground the box. I will add this final comment. Check the way your fixture mounts to the box. Some of my lights pull tight to the wall so there’s no issue. But 2 of my lights mount to the surface of the box. The box sits about 1/8” proud to the wall. So the way this particular light mounts to the box means you can see the box from the side. Now it’s an off white box, so it’s not a huge deal. A Carlon is thinner so maybe you wouldn’t see the box from the side. Or you may see blue. Given the choice now, I look at how the fixture mounts to the box and I’d choose this first. I like it.
I’ve successfully used this box many times.
This is a terrific ‘old work’ round box. I have also used the Carlon boxes- both types: those with the three plastic ears and the old style which uses a “U” shaped metal securing bracket (like this item).
favorite brand
These boxes are made by Allied Moulded, right here in Ohio. They are high-quality boxes and are my favorite! Much prefer these to Carlon Blue. Was so excited when Home Depot started stocking these! For the negative reviewers complaining, it appears they don’t know how to properly use this. You simply have to loosen the screws a bit and the flange will recess enough to install on the drywall. Also this box is plastic, so the person complaining about the ground terminal makes no sense… A plastic box need not be grounded.
