Hate pump in latest version

I’m on my second platinum one. I love it and so do my cats. However I hate the pump in the latest version. It clogs more easily and I have to clean and change the filter weekly whereas I used to only have to clean my old platinum Drinkwell monthly. Definitely more expensive to upkeep now. Currently looking for a new and less expensive alternative.

Got water?

I had a simple water fountain I bought as a black Friday special. I replaced it with this fountain. In the house we currently have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Within a short time all the animals were using it and we removed all other water bowls. We noticed we had to refill it more often as the animals were drinking more and more water daily. I'm very pleased and glad the animals are getting healthier because of it.

Purchased in January, motor quit in July

Purchased this when we inherited a third dog from a death in the family. Liked it at first because it held a lot of water but that’s about all it had going for it. It needed frequent cleaning which was a process. The concept of the water always being fresh was a myth. The filtering system was mediocre at best. I’m not totally disappointed that the motor quit other than the loss of a $60 price tag. I just bought a large stainless steel bowl that I can clean and fill daily and now I’ll put this behind me.

Mine needs to be cleaned every 2 days or it’s gross

I set this up on July 20th. Dumped the water and rinsed the entire thing every 2 days. Put the dishwasher safe parts in the dishwasher after 1 week, and hand-washed the rest with hot soapy water. My cat does love it, and it is attempt number 3 to get one he would use. Anyway, I noticed that the water is filthy after 48 hours no matter what I do. I have tried filtered water and tap. Doesn’t matter. Every 2 nights now I take the entire thing apart and clean it by hand with hot soapy water. Huge pain for a single, working person with limited time. The part that holds the filter frequently sloshes water out when you remove it. The reservoir gets water on the floor when you remove it and put it back. The bowl is heavy when filled with water, and frequently sloshes out during the short trip from the sink to where it sits. If you are elderly, look elsewhere. It will be far too heavy unless you have the patience to fill a pitcher repeatedly so you can leave the bowl on the floor and fill. So needless to say, the care PetSafe states this fountain requires is far from the actual care and cleaning you must do if you want your pet to have clean water. My apartment is air-conditioned, 1 cat using it, and the fountain sits away from sunlight, so none of that would be contributing to the filthy water it develops so quickly. I can’t even imagine if/when slime starts developing in all the tiny nooks and crannies either. Ugh.

Cat Fountain

I’ve only had the fountain for a couple of weeks, and I’m very satisfied with how it’s made, and the fact that it’s so quiet. I ordered the fountain to try and encourage my cat to drink. He used it once, and didn’t look at it again until today. In the meantime, he’d quit drinking from ANYTHING & and not eating. After several trips to his Vet, several rounds of hydration, lots of blood work, it was determined he had a UTI. He’s just finished 2 different antibiotics for 10 days, and this morning, took a big drink from his fountain. I’m hoping he’ll learn to love it! I love the gentle sound of the water falling. It’s very peaceful sounding. Thank You CHEWY for carrying products that are beneficial to our animals, and for the prompt turnaround time between ordering & delivery

This fountain did not meet my expectations. It took way too long to set it up considering the instructions missed a step telling you to replace the teardrop shaped plastic. If you dont put it back on the fountain will not work. The instructions failed to even mention the piece after you take it off.

It works, just not working out for our household

We bought this because our dog has a thing about water from outside. We have bowls inside that we change daily, but she will bark at the back door in the morning or night to get to her outside bowl. It does not matter what bowl is outside, it just matters it came from outside. We are in the midst of pollen season, so any water outside is gross in moments and we hoped this would encourage her to drink water inside. We have had it a little over a week and the dog has not used it for the last two days. My husband has crazy amazing hearing, and while the flowing water does not bother him, he says the pump makes a noises that grates on his nerves. If you have a stubborn dog or a husband that has bat hearing, this is not for you.

Cats LOVE this fountain

I’ve used versions of this for the last 18 years. Drink well just keeps getting better and better, with simplicity to fill the reserve tank on the back and carry over to the fountain easily. Pop it in and it’s got freshwater coming out. It is hilarious to have guests over and they wonder what that noise is. Oh your cats are lapping that stream as it comes out. No still water for these cats. They want fountain water!! I wish I could add the video. Pretty funny

Curious Cat Proof!

We have a 1 year old cat whose favorite 2 things are taking things apart and playing on water. Every fountain we brought home, he dismantled in a matter of days. We really don't know how he took the ceramic top off of the pagoda fountain. We have an older cat who loved her fountain and was making it obvious that she wasn't happy. After a point of analysis paralysis, I called Chewy customer service to get their input for a solution. After a really long period of time, this was the solution. IT HAS BEEN FANTASTIC!!!! The young cat can't take it apart--and he tried. He walked around it, put his front paws on top of it, yanked, and was so frustrated that it wouldn't come apart that he gave up and drank from it! If you have a young imp with an obsession with taking things apart and playing in water, this IS your fountain! I'm so grateful, and so is my older cat!

Didn't Last Long

It seemed great at first! The flow of water was easily manipulated with the lever and we found the perfect setting so that it made minimal splashing noise, but after only 4 months the pump started getting weaker and we had to manipulate the lever again. Even with the lever on MAX, the pump was not keeping up and eventually stopped pumping water entirely. I read several other reviews with this same issue. Not worth it to us to replace the pump, so we got a different device entirely.

Quality item, excellent service from Chewy

The fountain is great. Well made, easy to put together and use. Runs quietly. I appreciated not having to constantly rinse and refill my dog’s water dish. Purchased for my dog with Cushing’s who is constantly drinking because of his disease. He is not doing well these days and thought it’d help. Unfortunately, he refuses to use it and went without water. Which isn’t good for any dog especially one with Cushing’s. So while it didn’t work for us it’s still a good item that might work great for a different dog. I think most dogs would probably really enjoy something like this and to have good quality water. I wanted to return it seeing as my dog would not use it. Reached out to Chewy via chat and it was super easy and they were extremely helpful. So you can’t lose to give this a try and keep your pet health and hydrated without the nasty slimy water dishes that come along in doing so.

Very sad out come

I purchased this for my sister’s cats so they could experience this wonderful machine that I have for our cats. I have had several myself over the years. However, she has the same machine as well. Could you, please, e-mail me a return label at your earliest convenience? Love doing business with Chewy.

Second Time Purchased Same As/Well As First

Though there are some things I feel could/should be improved so far this is the best fountain in this price range I've been able to find. It's solidly built, doesn't have a plastic smell, water stays well filtered until it needs to be changed. My cat drinks both from the bowl as well as the steady stream. This is the second time I've purchased this model and only need to replace because the water here is extreemly hard. The first was a little background noisy but the second isn't at all and operates quietly. Generic filters can be found/purchased all over the internet and work just as well as branded in my experience. I feel to do better I would need to spend more so I'm giving it a five star.

Need tiny hands to clean

I had this fountain for a couple years and it worked great. Cats liked it ok and it gave me peace of mind while on long trips. Fountain would hold about 2 weeks or more of water for 2 cats. However, it is horrible to clean. I bought the recommended brush set and have a set of baby bottle brushes to clean the tiny motor pieces. There are just too many ledges, crevices and tight spots that are impossible to clean fully. The reserve tank hole is not big enough to get the bottom inside and small mold spots would show up that were a pain to reach. The fountain tank has too many unnecessary corners that slime would build up on and your hand doesn’t fit so you can reach them. The brushes aren’t sturdy enough to clean effectively. If you have a good cleaning method, this is a good fountain, just not for me.

I love this water fountain! Keeps my dogs water fresh. Comes already assembled. Easy to take apart and put back together again. I suggest you do that before first use. Taske it apart, wash all thae part real good because the item has been in a box for awhile!

Cats love it, I HATE cleaning it

I love my PetSafe fountain, I really do. My and my roommate's cats were so happy when we finally added the platinum to replace the plain bowl in our dining room.

Looks nice but full of hard corners and deep wells

This fountain will accumulate gunk, filth, and slime that is nearly impossible to keep clean due to the way it is constructed. The tower is all sharp corners in a deep & narrow pocket so you can't reach the bottom to clean the corners. The base in front has a ramp that also has a narrow and difficult to clean space between the ramp and the back of the piece. The pumps flow-control lever is a long hollow tube that's really hard to clean, assuming you even realize it needs cleaning. This tube can hide a 3-4-inch plug of algae, bacteria, and hair making the cleaning effort for all the rest of the fountain useless. The solution is to completely flush the water to keep clean water in this fountain every few days, which defeats the point of getting a large-capacity fountain because you'll have to clean it before the reservoir even needs refilling.

Great product

The fountain cord is 6ft long from plug to pump the average appliance cord length. The filter only has to be changed every 3 to 4wks, and if you clean your dog bowl like most pet owners do you can probably extend that. The pump sometimes does not build enough suction up the first time you plug it into the wall, just unplug the pump, wait 30sec, and plug it back in. Also cleaning the pump every week or two will actually keep the pump from breaking. Hair, drool, dirt, and debris get caught on the pump screen and must be removed or the buildup will stop flow and burn up the motor eventually. If your water flow decreases clean your pump. The pump has flow settings to reduce noise level but it is a fountain of running water purpose being to provide clean drinking water to your pets. I am sure there are instances of faulty equipment but these fountains are great if well maintained.

Outstanding fountain. Still flowing after 8 years

I have had my fountain for eight years this month. It is absolutely wonderful. Has worked without fault - running nearly constantly for all that time. Made it possible for me to work out of town for the week without worrying about the cats shriveling up.
