Switching to a brita!

I've used pur for years but the quality keeps getting lower and lower. The filters barely work anymore, even brand new out of the box they sometimes don't filter at all. The water will run through them and come out tasting/smelling exactly the same as when it came out of the tap. Additionally, the filters sometimes come with moisture in the packaging. The company told me this is safe and only a result of sterilization, but I work with sterilizers and this is incorrect. I hate being lied to! Moisture after sterilization ABSOLUTELY means that mold and bacteria can develop. It's disgusting. I'd rather pay more for brita filters than pay for pur's rotten little products that come dirty and may or may not even work.

[Rewarded Review]

The PUR filters really do a great job of filtering out the smell and taste of chlorine (among other things) in our tap water. I even give it to my dog and her fur no longer turns brown from where it gets wet when she takes a drink. These are very reliable--out of the 10 or so I've used, I've had only one that filtered very slowly. I found a customer tip that said to soak a new filter for at least 30 minutes rather than the 15 specified in the instructions. Since doing that, I haven't had that problem again. As they get near the end of their useful life, they do start taking longer to filter the water, but not by much.

For better water taste

We have used pure water filters for many years and they do what it says they will do. We have a lot of chlorine in our tap water which doesn't taste good, so these filters take it out, among other things, and our water is much better tasting. We use the large dispenser container and the filters are made to fit it, and will fit the pitcher also.

THIS SHOULD BE PRINTED ON THE BOX !!!NO LONGER WQA CERTIFIED TO FILTER LEAD

I have been buying these for years!! Saw a review here that prompted me to look more closely at the box that I just purchased. So, thank you to this customer reviewer for pointing this out!!! I called the 800 number for customer service to confirm that the filters NO LONGER filter LEAD. The rep just said , ‘ the company has decided to go in a different direction.’ That’s it!! I think it is sneaky and deceptive for a company to produce filters MINUS this important factor and to NOT disclose this change ON THE BOX. Customers would never know if you have been buying these for awhile because the BOX LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME. Same size, same color, same wording at the top. The ONLY way to know is if you read recent reviews or look really, really hard and/or compare the newer box side by side with a previous purchase. Again, I find this to be very SNEAKY and DECEPTIVE!! And, like I said, the customer service rep was NO help just saying over and over, ‘the company has decided to go in a different direction.’ TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! And … shame on the company for not changing the box color or even more so for not CLEARLY printing the words on the box … OUR FILTERS ARE NO LONGER CERTIFIED TO FILTER LEAD. This omission of this very important information, in my option, is very shady and deceitful on their part!!!

These make excellent tasting water.

It's a long story as to why I started doing this, but... Because I was dealing with a shared well and the neighbors were REALLY going through water way too fast, the well got extremely low during the drought portion of summer. Even filtered water tasted strongly of Sulphur, and it was untenable. So I dumped the water out of the pitcher and into my batter bowl, used my coffee filter setup and ran it again. It fixed the problem entirely. So now I pre filter my water before it goes into my Pur pitcher filter, every single time, for 7 years now.

Takes an hour to fill a full tank.

I was previously using the regular Pur filters with absolutely no issues and decided to try the Pur plus because it was supposed to be better. Followed all the instructions and soaked it and rinsed it and after filtering an inch worth of water it just stopped and would not finish until an hour later. Where previously the regular ones would take maybe 5-7 minutes. I tried removed it and shaking it upside down as I saw was recommended by the company to no avail. I even wrote to the company at the email they list for other people writing negative reviews and all they said was I must not have followed instructions or my water must have a very high amount of bad stuff in it. Well if the regular ones worked fine then obviously it’s not my water. Very upset at having paid more money for a filter that was supposed to be better and since I threw out the box because I didn’t anticipate having to return it for any reason I am now stuck with defective filters and it’s an extreme inconvenience to have to wait that long for what only took 5 minutes before. I also bought the pack of 3 so now I’m either stuck for 6 months using these horrendous filters or out a lot of money. Extremely upset!

Quality Changed - Filters Too Slow Too Quickly

If you read some of the most recent reviews you'll see it's highly probable that this product doesn't have the same quality control that it had several months ago. To add my story, I've used these water filters for a few years now and have had zero problems with them. Overall I have enjoyed using them. However, the last two packages I purchased have included filters that work great for a week or two, but then slow down substantially and take hours to fill the pitcher with a single cup's worth of water. I thought at first maybe it was just some air, or a clog, or a bad filter. Maybe it was user error and I had messed up somewhere along the line. Perhaps I accidentally used hot water to fill up the pitcher once or twice. But after carefully following the manufacturer's recommendations to remedy these issues and purchasing additional filters I haven't seen any improvement. The filters work great for a week or two then are agonizingly slow no matter how much shaking or unclogging I do. Again, this is all despite using these filters successfully for years without ever needing to shake or unclog them. Nothing else has changed. I haven't moved. I haven't used a different sink faucet. I haven't changed my water service. Everything is the same except for these filters and it's a bummer because I really did like them.

Worse experience:PUR filters your pocket not water

I have been a BRITA water filter user for some time and upon reading the reviews here, I decided to purchase this product a few months ago. The quality of the water is good and comparable to BRITA, or even slightly better. However, the filter becomes blocked often. I'm unsure as to where the claim of 40 gallons comes from as that is nowhere near accurate. There are only two adults in the house and it barely lasts a month. That is an abysmal amount of time. Additionally, one must be cautious when soaking the filter initially for 15 minutes as leaving it any longer will drastically reduce its lifespan.
