[Rewarded Review] Nice but a couple of minor issues
It is a nice toilet, but the lid does not fit snugly on the top when you install the dispenser for the cleaning tablets. That dispenser has metal clip that fits over the back edge of the top of the tank. The clip sticks up a little and causes the lid to be wobbly. As well, the same dispenser was loose in the box when the toilet arrived with no instructions for installation. I had a skilled plumber install it, and he figured out how it should be placed. However, for a DIYer, it might have been problematic. Better instructions would be welcome.
The bowl wouldn't hold water. When I looked, there was a crack next to the fill valve that it looked like they tried to repair at the factory but failed. Pretty bad quality control, had to unmount and bring back to get a different toliet. Of course they didn't have any replacements available.
Everything Sticks on the Bowl
Toilet looks nice easy to install, flushes good the only issue is everything on the bowl sticks including the water when you flushed it. I am guessing the actual surface is not smooth enough considering specs said it's a vitreous china. The toilet it replaced was American Standard and the surface was way smoother hardly sticks anything on the sides. So this means cleaning often.
I really love this toilet. It flushes well and doesn’t use much water. I like having the option to have chair height. As a one piece it looks much less bulky. Why not 5 stars? 1 of 3 toilets we had installed was defective. Of course we discovered that it didn’t have a good seal and would run every couple of minutes after it was installed. I had to hunt around to find the correct replacement part, which I bought from Kohler. HD and other places were out of stock. A high demand item perhaps? Also be aware the tank extends back towards the wall further than others, making it a tight fit to line up with the hole in the floor. In one bathroom my plumber had to move the pipe 1.5 inches forward.
Defective valve
I installed this one-piece toilet but noticed that every 20 minutes, the water valve was letting in a small amount of water. After troubleshooting through the Kohler website with no luck, I spent hours over the weekend trying to fix it. Finally, I bought a new Kohler valve from Home Depot, and that resolved the issue. I had to spend an extra $23 and a lot of time to fix a problem with a brand new toilet.
[Rewarded Review] Fourth One Purchased!!!!
Its obvious that i like this product because this is the fourth one i have purchased! From my first installation in my master bath, i knew i had found my toilet for all my future bathroom renovations! I love yhe one piece design as it is very easy to clean and the soft close toilet lid is a must have! No more slamming or banging sounds from toilet seat being closed! The 360 flush keeps the toilet cleaner longer! It also has a strong flush for being water saving! I highly recommend this toilet!!!
Value for the money.
The "comfort height" is actually a big improvement over previous toilet; the flush is more powerful than any of our other toilets; the flush swirls around the bowl cleaning it more effectively than previous toilet. Definitely worth the extra money. (Our contractor had put in cheaper toilets and they were a constant annoyance, often having to be flushed several times, etc.)
....I think I bought a used toilet.
The toilet itself is fine. I like the size and the flush is good.
Very weak flush
This 1.28 GPF toilet has a very weak flush. It was installed by a professional plumber from Home Depot. When I told him that the flush is weak, he answered that that’s how this toilet model is. Solid waste leaves marks on the toilet after flushing every time. Dissatisfied.
Do not purchase
plugged up on. Day 3. Frequently requires 2 flushes to get waste removed completely. Makes a loud sound when flushing. Lean back and the lid moves, Terrible toilet, expensive piece of junk. Poor quality. I hate it!
Toilet is leaking after installation. I contacted Kohler about a leak from the tank. Kohler sent a new canister seal, but it did not work. The toilet apparently has an internal crack causing the leak. Kohler is sending a new toilet, but it has already been more than 2 weeks and the toilet is still not here.
Do not buy!
After reading reviews, and talking to my professional plumber I decided on this Kohler Santa Rosa. Boy did I make a mistake, the base that the flapper valve ( I know it’s not a flapper valve, not sure what Kohler calls it ) seals to was intentionally damaged from the factory causing the fill valve to never shut off because it never sealed water from leaking into the bowl.
UPDATE: Kohler responded quickly and sent a new fill valve and flush valve assembly at no cost. Took off the canister, though, and found the base for the valve was not seated properly and that's what was causing the leak. Disassembled it, got the new value base unit, but it won't fit in any way and certainly not in a way that will keep water from leaking out. The opening for the valve appears to have been cast incorrectly and, when they tried to install the flush valve at the factory, figured "good enough" would work.
Great mid-range priced quality piece. Had for a few weeks. Like that it’s one piece, newer tech flushing mechanism, thorough and powerful flushing, chair height, elongated. Only dislike is plastic seat which feels “budget.” Should have been different, higher quality material. I’ll most likely replace the seat.
Cracked tank
Had the toilet installed. The next day our ceiling in the kitchen had wet spots. Found out the tank was cracked and leaking. Bought a 2nd one to replace it. Got it home and the contractor found that that one had a crack as well. Did not buy a third. Went back to the traditional two piece. I do not recommend. Paid the contractor 3 time to install toilets and have a wet spot on my ceiling. I expect better from Kohler!
The worst!
On my second one and about to try a third, I don't know how this toilet has so many good reviews?! First one had a super small crack on the underside near where the seat bolts into the bowl. Fine, I missed it/defective. Returned and got a new one. No cracks but it keeps leaking into the bowl! I've read other reviews and tried all their fixes. I've tried everything I read online as well and nothing helps. It's a brand new toilet on its second fill valve and second flush valve in less than 1 week!
Won't Clog and Stays Clean Longer
I purchased three of these to replace some 20+ year old Mayfields at home. They work just as Kholer advertised. As a one piece, much easier to clean. Flush is powerful and the bowl stays clean much longer. This may also be due to Kholer's specially treated porceline in combination with a pretty steep bowl and 360 degree flushing system. Our teenager hasn't been able to clog it yet, unlike our older toilets which were clogging constantly. Easy to install, but as a one piece, it will be pretty heavy. Probably around 90 lbs. Best to have two people. Definitely worth the price. Highly recommend.
I have purchased about a dozen of these toilets for my rental properties. These toilets flush very well and are well built. It is nice that they come with a soft-close seat. The only issue I have had is these toilets have a corkscrew rubber washer in the bottom of the nipple where you connect the supply hose. Sometimes if you have debris in the water line, the debris can get caught up in the corkscrew rubber washer which cause the water flow in filling the toilet to be very slow. The fix is to pull the washer out with a pair of needle-nose pliers and clear the debris, re-install the washer and you're good to go. It is a very easy fix. I will continue to change out all the toilets in my rental properties to these toilets. I love that I will no longer worry about tank to bowl water leaks. I highly recommend this toilet due quality of construction and a very good value.
Wouldn’t buy again
After another brand toilet began leaking at the base after three years, I decided to try the Kohler brand at the recommendation of a plumber. My issues aren’t with the brand as much as this model. The flush handle feels cheap and the action isn’t smooth, it’s jerky. Then, peeing standing up produces splashes which reach outside the toilet - an issue I’ve never had with any other toilet. Get a different model.
Junk bolts stained toilet
Kohler spec’s this toilet with seat bolts that totally rusted within 4 months of purchase. The rust then caused parts of the toilet to stain which after 15 minutes of scrubbing are still evident.
