I thought this would be a perfect buy since I've purchased the brand before. However the backing of the bookshelf is no thicker than 3 Bristol boards. I absolutely HATE it. The rest of the shelves are strong & sturdy so I don't know WHY one would decide to give it such a weak, flimsy, cheap back board. I'm So disappointed in this purchase. U need to handle it with such care because any force would ( and did) cause a rip. This was an online purchase

This bookshelf is flimsy and unstable. Not a fan. I bought four of them. Returning them.

Easy Assembly

I desperately needed room for my growing book collection and the two book cases I bought were perfect for the job. It seemed tricky when we saw all the pieces but the assembly wasnt difficult at all. The second book case was finished in 20 minutes! They look great!

Not what it is put up to be!!!

I had a similar bookcase made by the same company it lasted 18 years. If I get 5 years out of this one I would be surprised. Shelving is thinner. It is made in two sections, not allowing you to get a specific configuring of shelf spacing. I did assemble rather easily.

[Rewarded Review] Less Expensive and Functional

If you need an inexpensive bookshelf made out of fiberboard to just hold stuff -- this works. Made just like all the other Sauder furniture, you know the brand. Some scratches on the sides when I unboxed it but not too bad. There are two boards (not one long board) on each side, and the shelves can't be evenly spaced because of the fixed center shelf. If you want something a bit higher end then this is not for you. If you just need "something," this is great.

The Sauder Beginnings 5-Shelf Bookcase was just what I needed to display the additional books I have purchased as part of my book collection. The unit was just the right size to fit in space available. The bookcase comes unassembled but it was not difficult to put together. I had really wanted a lighter color but it was not available but now that it is in place and filled with books it isn't noticeable. Delivery was promised by a certain date but it arrived early. The price was reasonable for what I purchased. I couldn't ask for better service and satisfaction.
