Hardware missing
I bring home the kit mark my walls to start the installation only to find that there is NO hardware in the packaging! Not one screw bolt or anything to get started on rebuilding my closet space. I have to pack this s#@t up and return it for an exchange and make sure there's hardware in the replacement before leaving...all on a bad leg. There wasn't any info in the instructions on getting missing parts. I could have bought what I needed separately and put my own kit together, but this option seemed more feasible. I was absolutely wrong!
Sturdy, easy to follow instructions, looks nice!
I initially looked online at the wood closet kits at Lowe's, and many reviews noted that they were tough to assemble and/or cheap materials. I was bummed because I thought they looked so nice, but I then looked at the metal closet kit options, and the reviews noted that it was very sturdy and nice-looking materials – and I wholly agree! Glad we went with this kit. Assembly was fairly easy and instructions are clear, and although we didn't have any studs to work with in our closet, the anchors in the kit work superbly (a metal one broke during the install, but we were able to supplement with another heavy-duty plastic anchor we had on hand just fine). My only regret is that we didn't set it up a little higher on the wall so that we could fit a second rack/rod below. This thing is STURDY and I think looks really nice! Make sure it's where you want it, because once the mounts are set, they are SET and there's no moving them. Used in our 7-foot-wide closet in our primary bedroom, holds my wedding dress and heavy coats along with everything else just fine! Would recommend.
I was able to install it, with modifications. The instructions for the installation in an eight foot closet were incorrect. The total measurements adds up to 94 inches, 2 inches from the wall on the left, then three gaps of 22 inches each plus 4 inches on the right leaves the last gap of 24 inches. The instructions should have been - 3 inches on the left, four gaps of 22 inches each and 3 inches on the right = 96 inches (8 feet).
Customizable and Easy
I can only express my regret for not trying them earlier. This custom closet set is both terrific and reasonably priced. While it does require some effort to set up, having an appropriate setup has greatly helped me save space and made it much easier to keep my clothing and other belongings organized. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. The system is modular and easy to set up.
Good size for a normal walking closet. Easy to install. The cloth rods are not strong enough, do not support heavy clothes (jeans or jackets).
A real miracle worker for smaller closets to maximize tight space.
This is not heavy duty at all. When u own 100 pairs of jeans this would crumble into pieces. This is more for lets say a little kids clothing closet. If you want a heavy duty closet organizer you are better off purchasing the steel shelf brackets with the curved ends and then buy the metal rods and screwing them into a stud. Thats what I ended up doing and I did however incorporate a couple of the shelves for my shoes and bags, things that arent too heavy. So I gave it the rating I did because I was thinking it was sturdy but its not for jeans and the like and the shelves have plastic supports for the rods, not going to do the job for lots of items just be aware if you want heavy duty this ones not for you.
Durable and versatile but with challenging install
We bought this to replace cheap shelving for my wife's closet. The shelving unit works as expected. It can hold significantly more weight than her existing racks could. Plus, the whole system is modular, so she can move it around and reorganize as needed.
I assembled 6 closets for my new house. The closet maid system is the worst and most cheaply made. I ended up throwing it out. The "wood" falls apart very easily and if you are not careful will fall apart during assembly rendering it useless. We went with Ikea brand for many closets and the quality far superior.

Whew, what a waste
I bought this to try and make my 7' closet a bit more useable for myself and my girlfriend. BIG mistake.
Good value for the money.
I really like the versatility of the product. However, lesson learned is to be pretty confident where you want the mounting brackets before you start. After a couple of weeks, I now realize what I would have preferred as a configuration but that would now mean taking the brackets down and re-doing everything. If you're good at visualizing what you want (I'm not), you will love this.
Less space now than before
Originally before doing a closet remodel I had a mixture of storage methods in my closet. I had a shelf across the length on top and a rod just below that. One end had shelving the width of the closet and then I had a 3 drawer plastic shelving unit below the bottom shelf. I also had a 3 cube 2 drawer dresser type shelf on the floor under the rod. Using this option I don’t have the space for the plastic drawers or the dresser and also don’t have room to use the shelves because my shirts are touching the bottom shelf from the highest possible point. I probably will be throwing this whole thing in the trash as soon as I can find something else to put up in its place.
The kit worked fine. It does the job. My biggest complaint is that it's supposed to accommodate a closet that's between 5-8 ft BUT if it's between five and six feet, you need a hacksaw to cut materials down. So it really just fits in a 7-8 ft closet, smaller if you have a saw. If I knew that was what makes to fit my closet I probably would have gotten a kit that required less work.
as advertised
Was quick and easy to install. And for the price, it looks good and seems durable/functional. One note: most closet sizes will require 1-2 shelves and/or curtain rods to be cut to size with a hacksaw. But this is fairly easy and the kit comes with rubber and plastic bits to cover up any sharp edges left behind. Good value for the price.
Love it !The actual install goes pretty quick. The time consuming part was taking the old closet rod off, sanding and painting the back of the closet before I could install this one. The entire project took about 3 hours total. Looks fantastic. Sturdy. I was able to drill the main part into 2 studs so it feels very secure. Doubled my boys closet space. Would buy again for sure.

Ordered (2) units for a couple 7.5" wide closets. The installation was very straightforward. It was missing (2) hook brackets that connect to the rod and shelf. Contacted ClosetMaid's online chat and they shipped the parts, no questions asked. Additionally, I didn't want to use the supplied toggle bolts since they require a huge hole in the sheetrock. Instead I purchased some self-drilling anchors, since they can be removed easily. Overall still pleased with the product and the final look.
[Rewarded Review] Versatile organization
We bought this to set up the closet in our nursery. The versatility of the shelves was really nice. We were able to set up the closet for all of her current baby clothes and will have the ability to change as she grows and the size of her clothes changes. The system was easy to install and took about 2 hours just to make sure everything was right, probably could have done it in less but secured it with a few extra screws that were provided.
product purchased because of over weight collapse of shelving in closet. After searching multiple sites for solution decided that I would give ClosestMaidShelf a try. Great decision. Product arrived in great shape and as advertised. The beauty of this shelving is the multiple configurations available. It is also fairly easy to assemble all though I must admit that I had my son-in-law do it. Instructions for someone used to doing this kind of thing were fairly readable but if I tried it I'd still be reading the instructions. Original clothes plus some additional have hung and there is plenty of space left. Very happy with this product.
