I would not purchase this again!

I purchase this magnifying stand to be able to cut my own toe nails. The idea is good, but the reality with this product, it doesn't work. The biggest problem is the magnifying section does not stay in the position you put it. The crookneck bending and "adjustable" section has a mind of its own and won't stay in the position you put it. Unfortunately, the position it favors is sideways......not conducive to seeing anything!! It's difficult to put together from the beginning ( takes two people ). It is heavy, creates good balance, but moving around for an older person is tougher. I've tried many times to twist the crookneck into position to use, only to watch it move to a sideway position. I'm, sadly, sending it back.....meanwhile looking for one that works.

I got this as a present for my 17 yr. old grandson. He has a 3D printer and needed better lighting and some magnification for his work with it. It apparently was easy enough to put together since they did it the next day. It has the best magnification of all that I looked at in online searches. The only downside I saw was that it was shipped in just the manufacturer's packaging and the tape on that was partly torn when it arrived at Home Depot to be picked up.

Skip the glasses

This is the perfect height and level of magnification. The light is exactly what I need. I can skip wearing glasses when I use this. It's helped me read not only books but also my phone. So far it's got no negatives- I'll update if anything changes.

Purchased for 96-year old mother with macular degeneration.

Purchased for 96-year old mother with macular degeneration. Had help to assemble it. Likes the lamp and magnifying but finds the pole wobbly and tipsy. Worried it will fall over. Disappointed that the structure of the lamp is not more solid.

Positional magnification tool for reading; craftwork

Elderly mother has decreased vision related to cloudiness of lens post cataract surgery 30 years ago; and early macular degeneration. This magnification lamp has given back her joy of reading books; recipes.

Don't fall for it!

Got scammed out of 20 bucks for free shipping. They had the gall to offer a $20 coupon on my next purchase. What nerve. The item was overpriced cheap plastic. I'll never buy from these cons again!

Extremely Disappointing

Made very cheaply! Falls over at the least provocation then the pole comes out of the base very easily. But it is not so easy to put back together if you are not extremely careful the pole will sever the cord, and as I am 75 it is impossible for me to get on the floor to set it right again! Any suggestions?

Wanted to like it...

Putting this together has been a nightmare. I thought it was together then after moving in to the craft room lamp pole fell apart. Still have not got it in place. Sadly has been extremely difficult

Stand Falls Over

The pole is not centered in the base, so it tilts over to the side when the light is repositioned. The design is faulty. Mine worked fine originally, but with continued use, the sections of the pole would not hold together when I tilted the magnifier light up, down, left, or tight. I even tried to brace the pole, but it did not work. Buyer beware.

No

This lamp appeared to be the answer to my problems until I used it for a while. First of all, the pole is not centered on the base, so it tends to fall over. Secondly, when I try to bend the pole to accommodate my need to focus directly on a book or paper, the sections of the pole come unscrewed, causing it to collapse. The weight of the lamp is quite heavy, so you would think it would be sturdy, but the design is not good.

LOVE

I am a colorist with macular degeneration. I receive monthly injections into my left eye. I have been struggling to color and using a "hand held" magnifier until I found this. This is brilliant. I can color anything now. NO PROBLEM getting into intricate areas to color. I wish I would have found this magnifying lamp sooner. Do not hesitate to buy.

No

Poor design. Post that sits does not screw into the base so when you need to move it around you have to hold it by the base. The power cord is too long and rigid so when you assemble the posts and inserting it into the base it's difficult to push in that much cord. With the rigid casing, when you have to crimp the cord while inserting it into the posts it may in time cause it to crack inside the post which is not visible to detect damage. May be more susceptible to a safety hazard.

Good light

The main reason I wanted to buy this was because I have a hard time reading small print without a lot of strong light. I thought this would be the answer, and for the most part, it is. Honestly, what I could do without is the magnifying glass part of it. All I really need is a lot of good light directly over my book that I'm trying to read. I wanted something that was better than a book light and this fits the bill. As for the magnifying glass, you need to find a specific thing to focus it on and right now I'm not in need of that. Since I purchased this, I have since seen a floor lamp I might have liked better that was just a light looking down on what I would be reading. I will keep it though, there may come a time where the magnifying glass might come in handy.

No I wouldn't recommend it

I got this for my husband who has difficulty reading. Well it is barely enlarged and because it is plastic and not glass it "bows" in the middle and makes everything blurry to the right and left. But not really blurry because it really doesn't magnify much at all. It's the worst product I have received from Sharper Image. I can't believe the posts here could not be true. All of our grown children have tried it and fully agreed it doesn't magnify,!

Reading small print with lamp after loss of reading ability

My brother lost his beloved ability to read due to botched cataract surgeries. I sent him this lamp and he's ecstatic! Not only can he read again, but he chose the smallest print book he owned and could read it again! Prior to buying the lamp, I read the reviews from people with macula degeneration, but I wasn't sure this would work for him-but I was hopeful. He's unpacking the boxes of books he planned to read before the surgeries. His new challenge--which book to read first!

Table-Top Magnifier & 6-pc Magnifier Set

The Table-Top Magnifier requires 3 AA batteries. The long-lasting LED bulbs face down toward the text - from about four to six inches. Light is not needed generally

Life Changer

This was a gift for my 95 year old Mother so she could see to read and do hand craft work. It was a "life changer" for her. She was able to read and do her crafts again. It was always in use every day since she is not a television watcher. Unfortunately, it broke on the neck from moving it back and forth when getting up from her chair. It would be great if we could purchase replacement parts instead a complete new item. I have ordered another one.

This works GREAT!

Bought this for our 89 year old mom with macular degeneration. She was an avid reader but can't see well anymore. The light and magnification of this lamp has enabled her to resume reading and she is thrilled! Plus, since it's on a stand, she doesn't have to hold it (like a magnifying glass), so she can just hold her book or newspaper and read. It doesn't fix her macular degeneration but it does allow her to resume reading for moderate amounts of time again, which is wonderful. Has a sturdy base so it doesn't tip when you adjust the "flex" arm over your chair. Great product!

Bought this for my older father with Macular Degeneration

I bought this as a gift for my father who has macular degeneration and has trouble reading texts on his phone and reading the paper. He has this by his recliner and uses it every day. The size of the magnification area along with the lights make it very helpful for him. He absolutely loves it and I was thrilled that I was able to find something that makes his quality of life a little better by being able to read things better.

Nice quality

Purchased for a parent who lost vision abuptly. Hoping that if some visions is restored he can use this to look at photos and things. Other parent is ok with vision so perhaps she can use it for small things. My son put it together for them and said it was easy. He is 18. He is average at assembling so that is a good gauge, I like the gooseneck and i like the light placement. Seems sturdy, time will tell this is brand new. Delivery was as stated and it came well packaged. Sharper image communicates well along the way after placing order.
