Love - Hate relationship

When it works it is great, love it. When it locks up (about once to twice a week) and I have to go to the basement mechanical room to reset everything I absolutely HATE it! Come on, MOEN can't you find a fix to this problem or a easier way to reset it?

This is far and away the worst decision I made on our new house. Would NOT do again. The unit is far too touchy and the software far too poorly engineered. I've lost, quite literally, about 5 hours of my life troubleshooting and re-installing this.

Constantly Need to Reset My Three Moen Valves

I have three of these setups in my house, one 4-outlet and two 2-outlet. The first one was installed in 2020. The second two were installed in 2022 but just put into commission. I noticed that the first one would require a full reset every time the power flickered or even sometimes seemingly out of the blue. I assumed it was a fluke which is why I purchased two more. Sure enough, the two new ones are doing the same thing. I even have battery backups on all them which you'd think would prevent a power outage from forcing this condition. At this point I'm so used to having to shut the breaker off (easier than climbing into attic/basement assess holes to unplug). Ironically, I'm considering plugging these into smart plugs so that every time this happens, I can shut the plug off from my phone to perform the reset on the "smart" shower controllers. I wont even touch on all of the other feature related issues.

I have had the product for the last three months and on five occasions the unit has lost power and would not engage. In each instance, my building superintendent had to reset and I was forced to go to the gym to take a shower. As another poster noted, there should be a bypass system.

DO NOT BUY! Flaky, garbage product

If you plan to synch the controller to an iPhone, forget about it. Will only appear in Apple’s Home app even when set up through Moen’s app. Via Apple’s app you can only turn on and off and set temp. No presets and none of the additional settings or features that would be available via Moen’s app. Time is off by an hour even though set up with correct time zone. Getting the controller to initially power on is quite a challenge in itself. Very flaky product - do not buy.

Awesome - even wife loves it!

Awesome! My wife said “no high tech stuff - I just want to take a shower”. I wanted neat and clean with no cartridges to decipher and change. I also wanted it close to the door so we can open and start it easily as it does not have to be in a “typical diverter location”. Plus, one of my homes takes forever to reach temp and this controller made it simple to know when it was ready so if I like it on this application, I could use it at the vacation home.

Horrible Product Do Not Buy

worked great at first. Got it to sync and work just fine. three months later the nightmare started. Shower would no longer sync, it would freeze up daily and had to be unplugged every time we use the shower to reset it, shower shuts off during use every 2 minutes, can't get temp about 115 because we can't sync the shower any more. Filed a warranty claim and Moen replaced it...same exact problems. It is a garbage product. Nothing worse than covered in soap, shower freezes up and i can to get on my hands and knees, remove everything from under the sink to unplug the shower and wait 15 minutes to get it to work again. Repeat the process every 2 minutes. Don't buy this product!!!

Love the functionality. It’s awesome to run your bath on a timer and walk away. Don’t love the sound it makes when you press the button. Kind of sounds like a broken speaker

This thing is kind of a joke to set up. It feels like a faucet company that dipped their toe into IoT by hiring a cheap offshore company to build their app and technology. I felt like I had to have my fingers crossed during setup and it was ultimately successful but mostly because I work in the tech industry and I can tell what’s going on under the hood and poke at things that wouldn't otherwise be straightforward. I had to try a few times to get it to pair up to my wifi. I think the randomized security code may have changed due to taking too long during my setup causing it to fail. The whole process felt sloppy. The details aren’t important, what matters is that hundreds of other companies out there do this better with IoT devices. Once it was finally connected, things seemed straightforward. The app is non-intuitive. It gives you a list of stuff that makes you think you could click on each item to change it but what you have to do is select “edit” to edit all of them then change your item. I wanted to dim the ridiculously bright screen with the tacky Matrix-like raindrop animation so I set it to “low” and hit “done” but it had no effect. Reboot required for it to pick up changed config? Setting it to turn off the screen at idle seemed to work, there’s just no feedback on the panel to let you know it received the command you sent it. Besides all that, it seems to work fine. Maybe I’m being picky but it just doesn’t set up as smoothly as something like Sonos or a nice Wi-Fi camera. I wish the app didn’t make an annoying chime when you select your shower. Who’s idea was that? I can just imagine a bunch of creative types sitting in a meeting room writing down ideas and the chime was one of those ideas that nobody else had the guts to say “that’s a dumb idea” so now when you click on your shower it goes “Diiiing” like windows 95.

The Moen digital shower controller is a nice upgrade. We needed a controller on the opposite side of the shower from the shower head, so the water could be turned on without entering the shower. Also, you can operate the shower through an app and it's nice to see the temperature or set it to an exact temperature. It will heat up the water and hold it until you are ready to start your shower.

The U system is incredible. Can lay in bed and say "hey Google turn on the shower to 103" and it starts and warns up while I get up. Walk into a warm ready shower

Doesn't work well with Alexa

after installation everything works great except using it with Alexa. Very finicky to get connected and then voice commands don't work. The app will work for remote control but Alexa use will need some software development attention.
