A perfect upgrade, well worth it!
If you want to upgrade your bar tools I’d certainly recommend this brand. Really fine quality, easy to clean, and fun to use. Delivery was spot on.
Way better than unweighted tins
I bought these after my second bargain-bin Boston shaker died. I’d never used a weighted shaker before so I didn’t understand the benefits, but it really does make a huge difference.
Great shaker for a beginner!
I'm new to shaken cocktails. I wanted a shaker that wouldn't leak, would be durable, easy to use, and dishwasher safe. I haven't had a leak from this at all, no scratches/marks after a couple months of use, very beginner friendly, and does just fine in the dishwasher. Fairly priced for a nice shaker! The one downside: it is a bit difficult for me to open after shaking, it could be user error though. Overall, if you're looking for a nice shaker, this is it!
Perfect in every way
The weight feels lovely in the hand, the water seal is perfect every time with only the lighted of taps to close or to break, and the weighted end doesn't ice over nearly as fast as the cobbler I bought these to replace. I made a Ramos Fizz to see if I could completely ice these shut, and I cannot. They still came apart easily with a tap after a minute, shaken hard. Cleanup at home is as simple as shaking a drop of detergent with water, then rinsing.
You can have mine
I bought this shaker because it's a couple of ounces larger than the one I had been using. Sometimes that's an issue when making two large cocktails at once. It's a fine looking set of tins. In the beginning, I had a problem with it 'sticking,' having trouble separating the two pieces. Last night it jammed up; I couldn't separate it. My 18 inch channel locks wouldn't get them apart. I did not jam them together, I never do. The only force applied was the vacuum created in the chilling process of shaking. In the end, I was able to separate them by running hot water over the rim of the bottom half. By the time I was able to open it, the ice was almost all melted, and the drinks were ruined. Into the recycle bin it goes!
Lasted 8 months of lite home use before cracking
I purchased this from Amazon 8 months ago. It worked great. I used it about 3x a week at home and hand washed it most of the time. I did put it in the dishwasher about 3 times. It cracked this weekend. I'm disappointed because the description specifically says it will not do this. I'm also disappointed it only lasted 8 months of light use.
Nice Quality! Would purchase again!
Great and high quality bar ware ! Will definitely order again in the copper color for the beach. Nice weight and doesn’t stick together like inferior brands. Solidly built and dishwasher safe. Easy to use with one hand and no need for the little strainer if you practice a bit. I bartender on the side for a party or two here and there. Awesome purchase !
Water tight seal; easy to open
Shaker cups seem to be excellent quality, weld on weight is all the way round as described.
A quality shaker - but watch out for sharp edges
I got the weighted/unweighted combo. It seals nicely and feels solid. I'm new to Boston shakers, so getting these to separate requires a bit of twiddling. But I haven't found it to be a major problem. What is more of a problem is that the tops of these tins are very thin and sharp. Like cut your hand sharp. I haven't used other shakers, so I don't know if this is a common problem. I do know I have to be careful with these.
Good quality and fair price
This is an excellent shaker set for beginners. First off, the regular boston shakers that come with a glass shaker can be broken quite easily for people new to using them. This one is very forgiving as both cups are good quality metal. They create a tight seal and it easily comes apart with little effort. The box it comes in is also good quality and excellent for wrapping as a gift for someone. I'd recommend this over the cheap "bartending sets" out there. Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit extra to get quality tools. Happy drinking!
Tremendously better than the traditional "home" cocktail shaker
Bought this to go as part of a cocktail gift package I put together over the holidays. I can say it is light years better than the traditional home cocktail shakers that just have the double lids on the top of a shaker. The machining is true, and the weighted aspect are perfect to get that 'feel' one expects when putting together a favorite beverage at home. Do yourself a favor and pick up this set. It is worth it.
Best Cocktail Shaker Around!
All bartenders need a handy, reliable shaker to work their magic, and this is the best that I've found!
Amazing! What are you waiting for? Get it!
I looked at all the options, and this one looked the best. After using it for years, I am completely satisfied, and this is the only shaker I would ever buy or recommend to friends. I like that there is no obvious branding on this, and the branding that is there actually looks good. It looks so good on my counter when not in use, and it works perfectly. I have used this A LOT over the years, and it still looks brand new. Super easy to clean. There is no reason you shouldn't buy this if you need a shaker.
It really is leak proof!
I purchased this to replace a “non-rust” shaker that rusted after the first use. This is my first Boston shaker and I could not be more pleased. First, it is completely leak proof. No matter how vigorously I shake, the drink stays in the shaker. The seal is solid. But, it’s also easy to break the seal. Just hit with the palm of your hand and you are ready to pour. I have thrown this in the dishwasher multiple times and there is no rust. I would definitely buy again!
Seals snug and releases with a twist
I’m not exactly sure why, but I’ve never liked the cocktail shakers with the little lids and build in strainers. I really wanted the two pieces like this one. The price was reasonable and it works great. The first couple times, I thought I’d gotten them stuck together, but with just a little twist, they easily separate. I bought a separate strainer, which also works great. Now I can make delicious lemon drops anytime I want.
Bartender’s Two Cents
I myself am a bartender with 7+ years behind the stick from craft to club atmospheres. I also am extremely picky about my tools. Korikos are an industry standard and used at most bars, I’ve personally never been a fan. I need that deep seal that I can trust when making flips and egg white cocktails and Korikos tend to get squirrelly when the contents begin to expand. These tins are PERFECT. And if you’re in the market for a Hawthorne strainer, Top Shelf makes an excellent one as well. While I may get the rest of my tools from Cocktail Kingdom, for my tins and Hawthornes, Top Shelf is #1.
Okay...but no Koriko
If this is the first decent shaker set you've owned then it is no doubt a five star revelation. However, if you're used to Koriko shakers....well...it's no Koriko. The biggest issue is how the interior surface has been lathed. The Koriko shakers are very smooth, which means that separating them post-shake is a snap. In fact, the first time you use a Koriko the pre-shake sealing and post-shake separation seem so smooth that you worry that there is not a strong enough seal and that liquid will fly out...but it never does...which is part of the magic of the Koriko shakers. These are rougher on the inside, with more of a raised circular pattern cascading down the inside of the metal, and the post-shake separation is a bit tougher and both it and the pre-shake seal have very subtle hints of metal girding uncomfortably together. The metal is also thicker, which (counter-intuitively to someone who doesn't know better) just feels cheaper. I bought two of these and after using one returned the other one unused. Instead of saving nine bucks on a cheap knock-off I went ahead and just bought another Koriko.
Met High Expectations.
I hated our previous boston shaker set up and started a search for a new one. I'm not sure where I initially found reviews on this Top Shelf Set, but I am glad I did. I like Manhattans, I have noticed the bitters have stained the inside of the shaker where 2 to 4 dashes hit the side...yeah, I make doubles. Don't judge me...you're here, so you like drinking too. Very happy with this set and the OXO strainer. I like how it seals, no leaks, sometimes I get a little too aggressive with the seal and have a slight struggle getting it open but that is my technique, or maybe level of intoxication, that I need to work on as it usually works flawlessly.
Good But Cannot Dethrone the King
For many legit cocktail bars around the world, the golden standard for Boston shakers is the Koriko shaker. So how does this offering from Top Shelf stack up against the reigning champ? In short: decent, but not as good.
Great Quality, Easy to Use, No Leaks
I've always used two-piece shakers with pouring-spout tops. But after trying a Boston Shaker at a friend's house, I liked the idea and decided to purchase this one. So happy I did. Now, when I pour the drink, there is no more annoying leak at the seam between the top and bottom of the shaker. And I like that this one is all stainless steel. The seal when the pieces are together is more stable than with a glass shaker, and if you follow the included instructions, it's easy to get them apart. I love this shaker, I'm never going back to the other style.
