Beautiful machine with one design issue
A well-built machine with easy day-to-day operations and some settings that need looking up in the manual. A little bigger than I expected, but still works for our limited space. Looks cute and works great with paper filters. . Takes about 10 minutes to brew 8 cups. Not loud. Keeps the coffee warm for a good amount of time. Some people find it hard to fill up. I don't see the problem. The reason I can't give it 5 stars, however, is because the carafe is made of somewhat thin glass and seems so fragile compared to the rest of this robust machine. The carafe costs a lot to replace and there are hardly any alternative options.
Wimpy Warmer
Great looking. I purchased the pastel blue. Love the way it looks on my counter! Too bad it falls short in key areas. The functionality is a good balance of what you need, keeping it simple, and not lots of unnecessary functions. The water is a bit hard to pour in but just take you time and it's not that bad. The carafe is a bit in the "cheapy" side in terms of construction, but I can live with that. It's adequate. The coffee tastes good (not the best) and probably takes some time finding the right balance of grounds to get perfect.
Smeg is a dud and way overpriced.
Worst coffee maker I have ever purchased. Looks great but that’s the only positive I can report! I knew I was in trouble when the coffee started brewing almost immediately indicating it would not be at the right temp.
Extremely happy with my choice - so are my guests
Ha ha ha - bought it because I loved the look of it!! I was happily rewarded with the best cup of coffee that outdid all the other coffee makers I had been using. It’s was an easy set up, directions for use were perfect and quests have complimented my coffee choices and I tell them it’s because of the SMEG. It also looks really cool in the counter top! Went with a friend who was house hunting on Cape Cod and I had to smile when I saw the SMEG on the counter. Very happy with my choice.
Love it, it's a win!
The SMEG Automatic Drip Coffee Maker is a fantastic blend of style and performance. Its retro design brings a charming, nostalgic feel to any kitchen. It brews consistently rich, full-bodied coffee with minimal effort. I love the programmable timer feature, which means I can wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee—yay! And the machine is surprisingly easy to clean. Overall, it’s a win!
Waste of Money
I purchased this in June 2023 . I contacted SMEG om regards to rust build up I began noticing . They informed me that the item is no longer in warranty and refused to replace it . I am unsure why a coffee machine that costs $ 280 ( price was higher when I purchased ) would be rusting after a little over a year . The design is beautiful but the coffee spills EVERY time you pour it so prepare to have plenty of bounty available to clean up your spills . Waste of money and poor customer service
Solid coffee maker just too expensive
Had this for 4 years and it keeps going. The digital display however has basically died out one digit at a time. This didn’t start until year 4. I haven’t experience any other issues with this, such as water dripping, etc. I saw some reviews saying pouring water is pretty difficult to do which I ageee with but you’ll figure out a way to do after a few try’s then it’s easy. Looks classy and nice in the kitchen but seems too expensive for its basic functionality.
Poorly Designed Coffee Maker
If I could give this product a 0 out of 5, I would. You can't fill the holding tank without spilling water all of your counter and inside the filter unit, which then results in a lot of water flowing into your pot before ever brewing coffee. Then, after your coffee is brewed, you MUST line up the lid perfectly or your coffee will spill, again, all over your counters when pouring into your coffee cup. SMEG must not have a quality control division because this is clearly a poorly designed coffee maker and NOT worth the money. I plan to change mine out and give away over the coming months. I haven't done this in the past only because this was a gift from my wife.
Value For Money:nice
I’ve only had time to make my first coffee this morning. The flavour is very good. It looks fantastic. I like the reusable filter cone, that’s a plus. Disappointed that SMEGs website states that their products are manufactured in Italy. Not so much. The lid comes off all together which is convenient. As other reviews I had read that the lid doesn’t open all the way back which is a bit inconvenient but I use a small Tupperware measuring cup and it works great. Just be patient with putting the water into the reservoir.
Tripped our electrical system, we're over it
Ditto all the remarks - great style, bought the white and love how it looked on our marble counter. And....just over 12 months of use, was ok with it turning off after an hour (you can just hit the button again to turn it back on...) but this week, it started doing what a previous person mentioned, tripping our entire electrical kitchen wiring. I don't even know how it causes that, but we tested multiple times and it is definitely the SMEG, and unfixable. So sad.... Why can't the company figure this out?
Multiple Design Flaws the Company has not Fixed
I'd had my first SMEG coffee maker for two years and with all the bad reviews about the coffee maker only staying hot for one hour, I assumed that that engineering flaw would have been fixed on the newer models. All of SMEG's competition has located engineers able to design 10-cup coffee makers that can keep coffee hot long enough to enjoy a second cup. However, with my new pot, not only was that original flaw not corrected, but the newly-designed lids now leak coffee on the counter when pouring a cup of coffee. This was not a problem with our first pot. So sad that such a beautiful design has been so poorly engineered and that the company does not read reviews and correct all the original flaws. They are losing a lot of potential customers who love the look of the coffee maker but walk away when reading poor reviews about easily correctable flaws.
Smeg coffee maker
I love the look of the coffee maker in my kitchen. The white brightens up my small space & I also have the white toaster so I wanted the coffee maker to match. Like other reviewers, I found filling up the water tank with the pot is difficult but I use a large measuring cup to get around that issue. Coffee tastes great when I use the aroma 2-beans setting & stays hot if I don’t use the 1-4 cup setting. The con is that I normally only make 1-4 cups but if you use that setting on the coffee maker, the warmer doesn’t stay on after it finishes brewing. Glad I got it on sale! ECS Coffee shipped it free & it came very quickly!
It's cute, but besides that..... it's cheaply made. The handle is so cheap. the coffee pot cracked in my dishwasher. $50 to buy a new one even though I purchased a warranty. You have to pour really slow or the coffee spills. So hard to see the water level. The coffee grinds get through the filter that it comes with. Doesn't stay hot!!! I know a few other people that have one and feel the same way.
Stylish but flawed
Looks great. No question.
Hugely disappointing piece of plastic
Was so excited for this very cute coffee machine, only to be hugely disappointed. We've had this now for a few years, only because I refuse to throw out something I paid so much for (I saved up for this piece of plastic!) Here are the main cons I will list out:
SMEG - JUST A PRETTY FACE.....needs tweaking
Firstly, it is very attractive on my counter in my all white kitchen and I love the look and wanted this for awhile. The cost is bit high and I finally decided, just get it. It is a very simple design and simple to use. You wouldn't think many issues, as it is so simplistic. However,
Beautiful little machine.
Love this coffee maker. I've wanted it for a long time and finally ordered it. There are a few things that I don't like about it. I don't like the fact that theres no notification when the hot plate turns off. I find that it takes a while to brew a full pot of coffee. It is difficult to pour water into the reservoir. I wish the pot was a little larger. Aesthetically it is a winner on my counter.
Had Higher Hopes
Bought the SMEG coffee maker just over a year ago and was happy at first. Brews well and had a unique look. Unfortunately,as with other reviews, we always found the handle was weak. It eventually it let go with a full pot of coffee and smashed on the floor. The clock display is beginning to have issues as well. Reached out to SMEGs support line (left a voice mail) and sent two emails to the info and support addresses with no response over the last two weeks. Won’t be buying a replacement carafe either…as one other reviewer mentioned it would cost as much to replace as it is to purchase a new big brand coffee maker.
Looks great…disappointing performance & support
I previously reviewed this Smeg coffee maker, highlighting its short comings (not hot enough, warming plate turns off too soon, difficult to fill reservoir), but I have to add my experience with Smeg’s customer service/support. After suggesting I submit a claim, their offer was to send me out a new coffee maker, and destroy the one I have now (and send pictures to them once it’s destroyed). So basically they would send me a replacement that’s identical to the one I have now, with all the same short comings, and have me add the first one to the landfill. What a ridiculous solution. Maybe instead they could take my suggestions and make a better coffee maker?? Oh well, I tried.
