16x 12 Stratford on an existing pavered patio

We had this installed about 6 months ago, but took a while to do the fire pit and finish the electrical. We had to first dig up the footers thru the pavers and the manufacturer recommends 12x12x20, which we did, and then got the permit approved by the city. We ended up using their recommended installer and they did a nice job, but once we got up on the roof we realized they missed 2 entire rows of columns and we had to tighten them down. My contractor installed the electricity box to the outside outlet, as the local electricians wanted over $1k for this. All-in-all we couldn’t be happier!

High quality, stable structure, assembly straight forward

I absolutely adore it. It's solid, feels secure, and has big enough proportions on the poles to look traditional as well. It also has more detail than other models I looked at and it's well worth the money for the extra sturdiness and aesthetic details.

Fantastic Pergola

I searched for months for a pergola that would be structurally sound, aesthetically pleasing, and big enough for my extra large patio furniture. I couldn't be happier! Assembly took a while but was simple with easy to follow directions. High quality and beautiful, with no maintenance. Definitely recommend. One piece came damaged and we had a replacement within a few days, no questions asked. Fantastic customer service!

So many compliments on this pergola already! Our 3 grown sons and my husband put this up over Christmas. They opened all four boxes and organized parts. They laid the corner posts on the lawn and attached the lateral cross beams, then moved it up next to the house on the brick patio and completed it. We live in Kansas where the wind blows so it was bolted down to the brick paver floor. It only took them three hours to complete the mission. It looks amazing. Its Well built, all parts were there and Instructions are easy to follow. Will be spending alot of time out there when it warms up.

How a Lemon Became Lemonade

We had a spectacular Blue Spruce tree that was 30 feet tall and as wide. It was over 50 years old and had been the Christmas tree of the little boy who lived in our house before we bought it. We loved it, but it became ill and we were treating it for its sickness. Sadly it was very weak, but a wonderful friend.

I got an amazing deal on this stainless steel pergola through Overstock, much better prices than anywhere else. Quick, professional delivery, but they would only put the four boxes in the side yard, not carry them a little farther to the end destination in the back yard. Our town was hit by a tornado last December, so I wanted a pergola in the black stainless steel, not wood or aluminum. The lines are gorgeous. Mine is not being installed on a concrete patio, but on the ground with a slight slope which requires leveling through footers. My vision is for a stacked stone look. It's just me, so I am hiring out the installation, and will add photos when it's all done.

Exceeded expectations

My backyard gets direct sunlight for a good amount of the day and it makes it unbearable at times. We had been looking for a Solution for quite some time, but didn’t want something that would ruin the look of our deck, and would require annual maintenance. During my search we came across this pergola and after reading the reviews, we decided to take the leap. It arrived within about 2 weeks in 4 large boxes. It can be a little intimidating when you see all of it laid out, but as someone who has built multiple items out of box, this one as by far the most organized that I have ever worked on. Each box came with a parts list showing it’s contents. This made it easy to navigate and locate each piece. Added to that each piece was in its own plastic bag labeled as Itú it’s part name. One post came with a slight blemish, but everything else was perfect. Most reviews I read spoke of this taking 2 people 6-8 hours. I was able to complete this on my own within 5 hours. Only needed help holding the ends in place while I connected the initial top section. This looks perfect on our deck and is exactly what we needed. We had a party this past weekend and received so many compliments.

Accurate reviews and some photos

I want to thank all of the previous reviewers for their accurate reviews. I decided to with the Backyard Discovery 16' x 12' Hawthorne Traditional Steel Pergola after reading the reviews for other options including building my own. This was a good option at the time because of the limited availability of building materials during the pandemic. Everything that I needed was included and this pergola did not require posts like some of the vinyl pergola kits. Overall I am very happy with the quality. There were some uneven areas on one of the posts that looked like it was previously repaired using Bondo. I figured this was ok because the paint appears to be very well done and I didn't notice it until I started assembly.
