I've had 3 of these Simmons shower valves for over 30 years. The trim uses a clear plastic knob and a now very worn out backer template. Everything about the trim was very tired and the socket portion of the knob broke when I was trying to remove it to change the actual pressure balancing valve insert. This new design is significantly cleaner looking and will likely easily outlast my previous plastic valve handle. I like this so much that I subsequently ordered 2 more for my other taps.

I bought this to update original pieces that had been worn through cleaning and hard water. I think this unit might last longer, but if I get the twenty years out of it as I did the last, I’ll be happy.

Good enough for short term

As the exact replacement was not in stock at my local HD I went for this. From a distance it looks decent enough as a replacement for the Temptrol Model A that was old and falling apart. It is a chromed plastic part and feels cheap as such. The knob was missing the set screw but I had something in the garage that worked as a replacement. The diverter handle is molded to restrict the rotation at an angle that allows the tub faucet to continually leak. I guess I will modify that as well. This is a fully functional short term solution for me. Probably should cost half the price it did.
