Phenomenal rug overall. My one criticism is that the rug's coloration has a directional quality that is found in some polypropylene rugs, hence the deducted star. On the one hand, this aspect helps give the rug some visual interest that some will like, and it probably causes the cozy, crushed velvet touch like that found on the undercoat of densely furred animals such as chinchillas or British shorthairs. It really is a delight to walk on, and has a much softer hand than any Nourison or wool rug (New Zealand or inferior). On the other hand, the color changes is enough to bother some too much to not purchase it, as the creams, beiges, and other lighter colors in the border and florettes inside the field will have a rich, sepia color to them when the rug is brushed or vacuumed in one direction, but in the other it has a much whiter, washed out look at the border. The darker colors such as the navy blue and the teal don't ever look washed out. You can tell where the footprints are, but it won't make you wish you picked different upholstery for your sofas resting on top of it. While we found this a little annoying, everything else about the rug is so perfect that we ordered and kept it. If you're looking for a rug that is truly a rich, deep blue with a jewel tone quality, you won't be disappointed. Here is where the stock photos fail to do the rug justice. We have it in a room with a large, bay window. Even allowing for the significant changes the Western exposure's light changes during the day and seasons, it always looks like a blue in the navy family, but not midnight blue or black. For you sports fans out there, that means a little bit more like Denver Broncos blue rather than the darker Chicago Bears. There are several other strong points about the rug. For instance, the intricacy of the details in the pattern significantly greater than any other rug you will find by Nourison or others (excepting the other rugs in the Persian Palace collection). These rugs are truly a step above as there are multiple bands of colors framing the border, and the spiraling vines and florettes in various sizes each are trimmed with additional colors to give weight and dimension, yet without looking too busy. We also particularly liked that the pattern is more forgiving for those who wish to have a cocktail table not right over the absolute center of the rug. Lastly, the tassels are very, very dense, so those OCD types will not feel like they have to adjust them to all lay exactly the same or that their length causes them to stick up or flip over all the time. One last word, it is a thin rug. Not 'too thin'--it doesn't feel cheap--but it does lay flatter. In fact, you'll prefer a rug this thin and add the right kind of rug pad to a thicker one with a thin pad. For one, it's cheaper. It's also easier to customize how plush the rug feels and, if you change where you locate the rug or make some other home renovation, you'll be in better shape. So if you want the rug over a carpet, you can still do that. Or if you want it in a hallway over tile, you can adjust the grip and keep it low enough to not cause a trip hazard. And if you're not having all the legs of a sofa or chair on the rug, it will be easier to keep the furniture level without additional levelers or felt or rubber pads. Over our wood floor with plenty of furniture on, partially on, and off-but-next-to-its-edges, we thought the best choice was a 1/4-inch thick pad of rubber-backed felt. No more, no less. The waaafer-thin gripper rug pads that have that waffle design and are essentially the same material used as some kinds of shelf liners are cheaper, but they leave permanent grid-like imprints on floors and don't give enough thickness to feel like the Nourison or other higher-end wool rugs.
