Many of the pieces had defects in them. They put a HUGE sticker on the inside wall of the shelf that won’t peel off and leaves a big mark. Cover plates for a black shelf are brown. At this price point that is not impressive.

Overall, I like it and it's fairly well made for the price and looks like the picture. The back is a thin paper/cardboard material which was a bit disappointing. When we used the screws to anchor it into the main frame, it splintered the wood a bit which you can see from the front but thankfully the books covered it. It does require extensive setup but with two people it was straightforward.

Buyer Beware

This shelving unit arrived today and I assembled. Got near the last step which was attaching the backing to the shelving unit with screws which I did following the directions and carefully lined the screws up with the holes provided on the thin backing material...no pre-drilled holes were in the back of the shelving unit. The result was the screws broke through the shelf on the inside. Very unhappy but way too much trouble to return. Would not recommend this item for the money it cost.

Really cute bookcase and relatively easy to put together. It loses a star for coming scratched with a different colored stain attempting to cover the scratch. Otherwise I love everything about it.

This is a beautiful Bookcase. It holds a lot of books/and any items you want to display without taking up a lot of room. I love the drawer at the bottom for papers/photos. This would also look good in a large closet for additional storage, I looked for a year before purchasing, I'm glad I chose this one!

Not bad - not blown away.

I would cautiously recommend this product. Packaging was slightly damaged but that didnt effect pieces closest to the damage. Instead there were 2 other areas where there were impacts to the wood, chipping off pieces of the edge. This led me to realize that the wood used is a pretty soft and sensitive variety. Its generally a handsome shelf. In real life, it stands very straight. The illusion created by the feet splaying outward is an illusion I missed when purchasing. It is very straight up and down. Sufficiently heavy and it went together okay.

This is a beautiful piece of furniture. It was easy to put together and matches my 17 year old kitchen table with tile inlay top perfectly! I could not have found a better match than this item for the room and the price.

Hardwood Bookcase, be aware it weighs 97 lbs

This is a beautiful hardwood bookcase, and you can tell it is quality wood by the weight. I couldn't find the weight located in the description, so I didn't know it was 97 lbs (in packaging) until I saw the weight when I tracked my shipment. For my needs, the 60 inch height was perfect. I notice some other reviewers thought that was a drawback but I specifically purchased this set of shelves because it wasn't six feet+.

Perfect for a reading nook under the eaves

If you're as tired of particleboard bookshelves as I am, this may be the bookcase for you. It is solid wood and has the heft to prove it. It arrives as one large box, which is both heavy and awkward to handle (because it has no handles!). Luckily, a kind UPS driver helped me inside with it. The assembly instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. Each wooden piece is labeled with a letter. Different kinds of hardware are individually packaged in small bags and ID-ed with a number, so there is no confusion about which kind of screw the instructions are talking about. The pieces are precision cut and all fit easily together. The only glitch came when attaching the back piece, which was to be secured with 20 screws. Holes were pre-drilled in the very thin backing material, but most of the screw was going into the solid rubberwood, which had no pilot holes. I found the rubberwood too hard just to turn the screw into, so ended up drilling pilot holes myself. It's not difficult to do, but one does have to have the drill on hand. Just make sure the drill bit is slightly thinner than the screw. One reviewer mentioned shelves that tip easily because they rest upon little metal rods. That reviewer clearly did not read the instructions, which indicate that an additional rod should be placed above each side of the back of the shelf to prevent tipping (see photo). The end result is undeniably stylish, and the height is perfect for creating an under-the-eaves reading nook.

Nice bookshelf with storage drawer. Well made. Solid. Easy to put together. My only complaint is that the top is attached via cam bolts and they visible/noticeable as the plastic covers do not blend in. I wish the top was attached by another means as it cheapens the look.

Purchased this to go with the credenza in the same style and they look quite nice next to each other. Two of the four shelves are adjustable by 3 options for placement (the other two shelves are fixed for stability). It was pretty easy to put together. Be aware, the wood is stained just a bit darker in person than what it shows in the photos. One thing I wish I would have noticed before purchasing was that this is only 5 feet tall, which is a slightly awkward height. If you had something you wanted to showcase at that height (larger picture frame, vase, small sculpture art), then the height should work well. Since this is right next to our TV credenza, we're putting our router on top for superb signal. For being a medium-sized bookshelf, felt it was slightly overpriced. But I guess if you want to match styles with other furniture pieces, that's how it goes.

This is a fantastic book shelf. Solid, heavy wood construction and a beautiful finish. A few spots have mars in the finish, but they disappear when looking at the shelf from across the room. There were a few scratches that a furniture stick needed to be applied to, but I’m not sure if they happened during manufacture or our construction. The assembly was simple with the instructions provided. The only error in the instructions was regarding the type of screw driver to use. The wall anchor that came with the shelf was very flimsy, so we installed a sturdier more trusting anchor. The shelving unit did have a odor for a week after assembly. I didn’t like the color of the screw caps that were supplied so I have not used them; additionally they didn’t fit firmly in place. The bottom drawers slide in and out smoothly. The ClosetMaid 13” storage bins I bought to use with the shelf were too wide for each opening. When I trimmed a quarter inch of the insert in the bottom of the bin, I could get the bin to snugly fit in the shelf openings. I won’t be accessing what I stored in the bins often, so I’m happy with the ClosetMaid storage bins. I am well pleased with the storage capacity and look of this shelving unit. It looks modern, is designed well, and most important is made from real wood. I do not expect the finish to last unscathed for too long, since the lower shelf is storing my toddler grandson’s toys, we’ll see!

The material and the hardware provided are all with good quality. The instructions are very clear and craftsmanship is accurate and precise. There are many similar design and size shelves available on the Overstock website, some of them are more expensive but not even made with real wood panels like this one. I am very happy with this purchase.

LOVE this bookcase!

This bookcase is so sturdy and attractive- I love the drawer at the bottom, I specifically wanted a mid-century feel with a drawer or doors and this fit the bill. FYI- it is extremely heavy, it was left outside and I had some difficulty getting it in by myself. It was just me doing the assembly and while it took me 2 hours, that is because I didn't have assistance. It wasn't hard to assemble, just bulky. It looks great and probably my favorite Overstock purchase so far!

Exactly as pictured - highly recommend

I was looking for a darker walnut bookcase with a little bit of a modern mid-century look to it and this fit the bill perfectly. I also love that this is solid rubberwood and not the particle/veneer type so often sold. It was shipped well packaged. The instructions were extremely clear and easy to put together. The pre-drilled holes were perfect. The drawer aligned just perfectly and slides easily in and out (though watch those fingers). Solid bookcase with 2 solid shelves and then 2 adjustable shelves. This bookcase matched the Simple Living Pisa stools also bought from Overstock perfectly which I also have in the room.
