Repair Without Any Wall Cutting
Used for replacement parts for a 22 year old American Standard shower/ tub mixer. Worked just fine and the constant dripping is fixed without having to cut a a big panel out of the wall.
Not same dimensions as old one
Our old American standard rough in from 1997 with no obvious part number needed replacing because it had the pressure balance portion to the rear, a spacer, and the cartridge in front. The spacer was cracked and no longer in production or anyones stock including American standard, necessitating replacement of the rough in assembly. The R 121 only has the pressure balancing unit and the cartridge which makes it about a half inch shallower, causing the mounting to be modified. The unit works flawlessly.

Easy installation
This unit has male pipe thread or sweat fittings. It comes with the plug for use as a shower only valve. The valve includes the American Standard tub/shower controller cartridge. It works with different Am. Std. trim kits.

I love this valve. Not all manufacturers sell products with bot the pressure and temp adjustments. This it the second one I have installed.
POOR QUALITY
Installed in our bathroom shower and immediately dripped. Called American Standard and they told us to clean out the pressure balancing valve. Found brass shavings that came from poorly manufactured valve body. Put back together and still dripped. American Standard sent us two replacement cartridges and pressure balancing valves. The faucet still drips. Valve is made in Mexico.
Fine shower control
This valve is part of a shower control that is the simplest and easiest to use and most pleasant to the touch. You simply lift the handle to get volume, and it is set where you had the temperature last — no gripping, pulling or turning. It could not be simpler or easier to use. And they are easy to clean. We love them!
Great Fixture
I've always liked American Standard. Not much more expensive than the true "el cheapo" garbage out there, it seems to last for more years and under conditions that would bring others to their knees.
