[Rewarded Review] Better in all regards

We were first attracted to this product because of the configuration. We wanted two basins, but also have some toast pans and cookie sheets that would not fit in just the larger basin. This configuration meets both needs.

Sink Leaks at the Welds - Buyer Beware

1st Kohler K-3838 sink arrived scratched and dented in the box. Not a shipping related damaged item

DO NOT GET THIS!

It’s been three years, it looks like 20 years old with just normal use, at a vacation home! It’s rusted and scratched beyond repair, the metal is super thin, don’t let them fool you! 18 gauge is very thin! My Franke is 12 gauge and lasted 26 years! POC!

Difficult to clean

The sink corners are very difficult to keep clean. They are too angular. Very difficult to reach the corners with a scrub brush, cloth, sponge, or even a bottle washer. The basin is very flat and everything stays in the corners.

We bought this sink 7 years ago and it lasted that long. I wash dishes all day and every day in it. We bought it again, decided to change since the kitchen was remodeled and to keep everything new and used this older one in the other house. Quality is amazing and it’s easy to clean (corners too) by using baking soda or bar keepers friend occasionally, but if you go with a sponge around the edges every time you do major dish washing, it takes few seconds and the sink always looks clean and new.

Nice size and look

I like the size of this sink and it is pleasing to look at but that is all. I would never buy this sink again for the following reasons: constantly chasing food (due to a flat bottom) around the sink so it goes into the drain, the square sides and square angles make this very difficult to clean and can only get into the corners with a toothpick, scratches very easily so a raised grate needed on the bottom- which also needs to be cleaned regularly with a brush to get all sides and rounded edges- too big to fit in a dishwasher. The use of a grate then requires more water to fill your sink. In a nutshell this sink requires more work to keep clean than any other sink I have ever had. After 2 years of use the the leg protectors on the metal grate have worn through.

Razor Sharp edges

I purchased this sink and had my plumber install it today. Immediately had to remove the sink as the edges were cut so rough and sharp I was afraid of slicing my fingers when touching it. This sink should be under mount only, not sold as top mount. Many small burrs and razor sharp areas. Poor design actually hazardous. The manager of the store I purchased from is ordering another of the same in case this was a flawed sink that wasn’t polished on the edges. Very disappointing because the style was perfect for me. But at this price range I expect a smooth edge that is polished and not raw cut.

Handsome, clean, unique lines

I bought this sink to replace a composite sink. The whole counter and sink space looks so much more spacious. I love it. The new sink has a low lip around it for easy cleaning. The smart divider is a great and useful idea. Very happy I bought this sink.

Leaks at seam!

We had this sink Installed during our kitchen renovation . It leaked at the seam when the plumber filled it. The countertop had to be removed to remove the sink so it could be returned. 2nd sink came and also leaked...they fixed the leak with FLEXSEAL GLUE.

Poor quality control and warranty policy

Generally I love Kohler and what they stand for. I purchased $10K of Kohler product for redesign of three bathrooms and kitchen and for the most part have been very happy with the design, look and use of the product. Except this sink which I got installed last Friday. As it turns out the sink had a corner that was rusted or had a rust mark and I didn’t notice it until my countertop guys installed it. I am attaching photos to show the issue. I hadn’t even installed the Kohler faucet onto the sink when I noticed it, so clearly it was a manufacturing issue. I tried different things I was told to clean it and still shows the rust. The sink was sent to me with the defect and even if they replace it, they would expect me to pay for the cost of replacement, which is ridiculous when I am paying top dollars for a premium product. Interestingly, I saw a review on another website with this same product and the user had the exact same exact issue! So Kohler clearly has an issue with quality control that needs to be addressed

[Rewarded Review] Poor quality control and warranty policy

Generally I love Kohler and what they stand for. I purchased $10K of Kohler product for redesign of three bathrooms and kitchen and for the most part have been very happy with the design, look and use of the product. Except this sink which I got installed last Friday. As it turns out the sink had a corner that was rusted or had a rust mark and I didn’t notice it until my countertop guys installed it. I am attaching photos to show the issue. I hadn’t even installed the Kohler faucet onto the sink when I noticed it. I called Kohler and the guy told me I could use Barkeepers Friend and then use Steel cleaner & polish it and it should go away. I tried it and the rust still shows up. The only other choice I was given was replace the sink as it had a lifetime warranty. I told him the countertop guys had already installed the sink and it would cost me money to replace it but he was adamant that warranty only covered material and not labor, This is ridiculous as I hadn’t even started using the sink and realized that it was sent to me defective. I am super disappointed that they wouldn’t have someone replace the sink for me and just replace the part. That’s not what I would expect when I purchase a premium product from a premium company (or at least I thought I was!) and they dupe me like this. Why should I pay for their mistake. The person I talked to was kind of arrogant so decided to just share my views on the product review. What is noteworthy is that Amazon had the exact same issue described by a user three years back!

Nice and big

We were building a house and I wanted as big a sink that would fit in our cabinet size. I was hesitant to choose a sink with square corners fearing the corners would get dirty. But I decided to try this new style. The large basin is nice and big and deep BUT the metal scratches easier, the sink is very noisy, and the bottom seams and corners get a film on them if not cleaned daily. Just rinseing them with the faucet spray does not help/

Gorgeous

I absolutely LOVE this sink. It is a great compromise between one large open basin (which my husband wanted) and the divided (which I wanted). The lower "smart divide" enables you to easily wash oversized pans. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because it is polished so beautifully and shiny when installed, but the very first time I washed a glass in it, the sink scratched horribly. I almost cried. You cannot "polish" them out because it is a high-gloss and shiny surface, and any polishing leaves a dull stainless mark. I ordered a second sink grid and that has helped a lot. Also, I recommend - as tedious as it may seem - to dry the sink every evening or after every use if you can, to keep it shiny and clear of water spots. A little extra maintenance, but I think it's worth it to keep it beautiful.

High maintenance underperformer

The look of this sink is perfectly industrial with clean lines, but the floor of the sink is not sloped enough to allow food to easily be directed to the drain, and you have to physically with a sink brush or your hand move the food to the drain. The Kohler sprayer I purchased is not strong enough to move the food particles because of the sink design The corners are very difficult to clean because of their straight edge. It also scratches at the drop of a hat. Although this sink looks very updated and trendy, the maintenance leads me to the average rating. Also for undermount use, be aware that because this is an over and undermount, it comes with a lip which my granite fabricators had to cut off inorder to install this properly, which negates the warranty when you do that. I wish I had chosen the Elkay 60/40 instead.

If I had it to do over...

I'm sorry to say that this sink was a mistake for us. My wife wanted a double sink and I wanted a single. We comprimised and got this one. Well, now I feel like I got the worst of both worlds. Neither side is big enough to soak a baking sheet or a pan with a handle. That makes me crazy. And either side can only be filled as high as the divider, so it really isn't like a typical double sink. Filling both sinks to the top is still not perfect because the divider is down there somewhere, and it's terribly wasteful. So my advice to you is stay true to your convictions or toss a coin or something but buy a big single or a full double.

I was looking for an under mount, equal bowl, smart divide, drains to the rear sink in white cast iron and could not get all these features if I did. I read that stainless is a cleaner sink for washing produce, which helped me to give up my cast iron plan. I wanted it to be made in the USA. Foreign steel is inferior and Kohler has the features I am looking for. Upon opening the shipping box we found everything intact except for all four corners are bent. Disappointed for that, however, because it is under mount, it will not show. I would encourage the shipper to reinforce the shipping container in future sales. This is for a kitchen remodel and we will be installing very soon

As part of a kitchen remodel project, it replaces a 30-year old Kohler cast iron sink (still in great shape, to be reused at another home I own). My experience with the quality and longevity of Kohler products was a driving factor behind the selection. It has features that I wanted - brushed stainless steel finish, 9+ inch deep basins (7-1/2 for old one) with square corners, low profile (drop-in) is nearly flush with countertop (old was >3/4" above), and a low center divide between the 2 basins allowing for soaking oversize broiler pans, cookie sheets, ... available matched accessories, ...

Modern Sink

This sink seems larger than most stainless steel sinks due to the square, flat bowls. The lower center divider makes it seem like one large sink with the benefits of two sinks. It looks so much higher end than the ones sold off the shelf. I purchased a one hole version for my sleek, new sprayer facet. I had it installed as a drop-in. I like the flat lip but it is kind of sharp...the plumber cut himself applying the caulking. Because of this, it might be better as an undermount. So far, it hasn't been a problem for me.

This is a great sink! Wonderful quality & exactly as pictured. Standard shipping WILL NOT work. The 1st sink they sent was bent. So was the 2nd one - UPS cannot deliver this item without damage. The 3rd sink was shipped ground freight and arrived in perfect condition. The box it is shipped in simply does not provide protection against careless handling during shipping.

I purchased this sink for our kitchen remodel. We refinished our cabinets, and kept the existing granite, but needed to replace the horrible black, composite sink that was installed. We were limited with our dimensions and this was the only stainless steel sink I could find that would work. We have remodeled several homes in the past and are not amateurs by any means of home improvement. With that said, the sink looks pretty, but is not as functional as it could be. It is quality stainless, but lacks sound deadening material, thus it is a bit noisy with the garbage disposal. The corners are not rounded, so food/gunk can build up in the corners. The four drain grooves that extend from the corners to the center are not deep enough for water to drain, thus water stands in the bottom of the sink, leaving water stains. This sink will require constant wiping down and stainless steel polish to keep it looking pretty. So, if I wasn't in a bind for the size, I would have bought something else. But, this works in the current situation and it saved me thousands of dollars to replace the granite counters!! Also, remember, you will need to purchase the sink drains!!
