Functional, but not pretty.

I bought this because my room is too cramped to use a nightstand and I had a few larger items (laptop, daylight alarm clock, VR headset, wireless keyboard, and other stuff) that I wanted to store in a place that is easy to reach. It's hard to find a budget headboard that is deep enough to handle that much storage, but this Prepac one fits the bill. Mostly, anyway; it's a little short for my bed, but not egregiously so.

Nice for the Price

The box that the headboard was shipped in came slightly damaged, which may have caused the very slight nicks on the top piece of the headboard. While the assembly wasn’t too bad, it was a challenge because none of the laminated composite wood pieces had identifying numbers or letters on them to follow along with the instructions, so there was a lot of process of elimination as the pieces were being assembled. However, once assembled, it looks very nice, especially for the price. We purchased the white headboard so we filled in the nicks and cuts with whiteout. (Not kidding)

Very functional bookcase headboard.

I assembled this bookcase headboard without difficulty. The shelves are not tall - please see photo with the ruler showing that the bottom shelf is approximately 7.5 inches tall and the top shelf approximately 5.5 inches including the height behind the faceboard. So paperbacks fit standing up and I stack my taller books on their sides. However you could leave the top shelf off for a taller area. The cabinet behind the doors is perfect for a box of Kleenex, hand lotion or anything that doesn't look attractive on the open shelves. The finish is very easy to clean to a soft shine. The satin finish on the cabinet knobs looks perfect. As someone mentioned in an earlier review, I also plan to drill a hole to hide and thread cords to the outlet for charging my phone, etc.

I really like this bookcase, however, none of the pieces were marked with what letter they were so 20 minutes was spent figuring out which piece was what and instructions were very confusing. There is no pre-drilled holes to attach a bed frame either, it feels pretty sturdy just pushing the bed against it, but I thought it was odd. Also, there was a chunk missing out of one the pieces, but luckily the bed covers it so we opted to keep it. My little boy was happy with it, and I would say the price fits the quality. It took about an hour and a half to put it together with two people. It would have been less time had the pieces been marked to correspond to instructions.

This headboard is a bit heavy for assembly, but sill manageable. I typically assemble items by myself; I did have some help on this one which helps. The pasteboard does scratch a bit easy so be careful with assembly. The quality is about as expected for the price, looks ok, not great, but what I expected. The headboard works with both a full and a queen. Some reviews questioned a full mattress, but I actually liked the look of the headboard with the full mattress better because it looked good with the wood look boxed edges on the side. I had to use some packing Styrofoam strips taped to strategic places on the back of the headboard to reduce and almost eliminate movement between the wall and the headboard since it is really just freestanding. I didn't bolt it to the wall as some reviews suggested; styrofoam is working just fine.The headboard is sturdy and looks as I expected, just a little cheaper look than the picture and scratches easy which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Would definitely recommend, does the job as long as you understand the quality is pasteboard.
