Cute, but fussy to install
I got the 3-pack. The buddy that is even horizontally (the 2 legs bent back = the hanger) is the easiest to hang. The other two "vertical" buddies are designed with their 2 holes slightly off-center and so if (as in my case) only one hole can be in a stud, and the other hole has to use a drywall anchor, the buddy doesn't hang perfectly flat on the wall, which means it doesn't slot in perfectly. I did a lot of placing the buddy, finding it was wobbly, removing the buddy, tightening/untightening screws just a 1/8 twist, and then replacing the buddy to see if it would seat on the screw heads better. Lots of trial and error. But in the end I got them to be firm enough, and since I'm not planning to hang anything heavy on the two vertical buddies, I think they will work out.
This "Buddy" coat rack system is awesome! As a product designer of 35 years, I've always had an admiration and a soft spot for Umbra products. The Buddy pieces provide you with total flexibility on color and installation. Great purchase for a very reasonable price...thanks Umbra Team!
Whimsical and Functional Buddy Hooks
I like my little buddies but it was a splurge expense. They were easy to install using the template but a little tedious getting the buddies to be attached firmly. I had to tighten the screw leaving a gap that the hole in the back of the buddy could grab the hard of the screw. Too tight, I couldn’t get the buddy onto the screw. Too loose, the buddy fell off when I hung something on the arm. I’d love to get another set but at $20. for three buddy’s, that’s just too much money for 3 little plastic guys that are hidden when something big is hung on them.
I like the playful design, very creative
I bought this product little while ago and it was amazing, use them to hang hats on my wall.
This were awful. They’re bigger than I thought and still do t hold much. Only one of the figures can really hold a jacket. They were very flimsy and light and we donated them after a couple weeks.
hard to install ridged without moving.
These are not designed well. 3 points of contact would be more secure. the anchors are garbage brittle plastic. I've snugged them tight but was limited to installing then on studs only but who wants coats bags or whatever 16" apart?
The product was good. Clever idea, but cheaply made. Thin lightweight plastic, the seam clearly visible. It kind of works as a coat hook but the rounded, stubby pegs and shallow angle means your wet towel or windbreaker ends up on the floor a lot. But these are mostly for looking at, and they are neat to look at. I painted mine, metallic gold and metallic nickel. Added lots of glitter now they look intriguing. All in all i am pleased and will most likely buy some more.
perfect toy
i bought these for my kids coats. They are quite flimsy and the hardware is not great to attach to the wall. buuuuutt....my 8 year old son has been playing with buddy for the past 3 years. it is his all time favorite toy. I have bought it twice now because they are plastic and arms keep breaking off. i wish Umbra could sell me a set of 3 of the same, because my son only likes one of them.
Great Fun
Nice and modern and a bit of fun, love these. They came with a paper guide for fixing to the wall, screws and raw plugs. My husband used better raw plugs than what was provided, but otherwise no complaints.
Quirky, fun and functional
Bought these for our hallway and we love them.
Look good but not very practical
These hooks look nice once you got them up but they are hard to get to function well as hooks. They'll be a bit loose if you don't get the drill holes perfect due to the intenal slide on screw sections not being consistent sizes and being two screw points instead of one or three.
Adorable but they will not support a towel or robe. The ‘arms’ are too short & the surface is slippery. Really lightweight plastic, not heavier & with longer arms/farther from the wall so can hold large towels like similar that I purchased elsewhere for over the door. Should be ok for necklaces or just decor but not what i purchased them for.
A creative non indented use!
We actually used these "little guys" to create a sculpture inside a non-functioning fireplace. Rather than logs, dried flowers or candles, we created interest with these climbers and some lights. Everyone loves it!
Cool and useful.
My children got these playful hooks for their entryway in their new house, which has no other place to hang coats. Their young children loved the hooks even before they were hung. The hooks look funky and seem sturdy for their purposes. They also add a very cool feature to the entranceway , without being too intrusive.
Quirky and fun
We love these guys and have them "climbing" up our alfresco wall. We use them to hang hats, towels and goggles on. The towels don't stay very well on the legs of one of the men, hence using for goggles. The other 2 guys are great for holding towels
Decorative
I have one set in my bathroom and one set in the hall. Perfect for hat, scarves gloves but not so good for big towels or adult coats, jackets. My sets are black against white walls and newcomers always comment positively on them. Quirky modern hooks at a fair price. The first set i bought was in Amsterdam and then I looked online to find the second set. Good quality matt plastic.
Too many holes in the wall to hang
It's a fun look and I wanted to like it so. However, you have to drill too many holes for this item. At best, you can hang one light item from it. I've kept it because I do still like the idea of the threesome climbing the wall. However, I will probably want to use an adhesive backing.
Variance in quality
I purchased both a grey and pastel multi set. The grey are better designed with more substantial screws etc. Inside the screw hole on the grey set there is a plastic spring which is effective in securing the buddy to the screw/wall. A less effective, almost useless spring affair can be found in the pastel coloured set screw hole. I can only think that they grey set is the original well constructed design and like a lot of other products these days the pastel set are being manufactured to a lesser price point. Photo included to show difference in size of screw hole. The white buddy from the grey multi set has wider spacing on arms compared with the pastel. Disappointed and would not purchase again.
Artsy and Functional
Just installed these super cute and functional hooks on our wall today and couldn't be happier. They are not loose and do not come off easily as the other reviewer suggested IF you know how to properly install it. Their instructions are pretty minimal so my advice is (for those who aren't handy like me), make sure the screw is away from the wall just slightly (a quarter inch?) so that when you slide the hook on, it is "airtight" and taught, not loose. Just play around with the distance between wall and screw and you'll get the idea!
