I purchased this to clean rasps and files that I mostly use for sharpening blades, garden tools, and the link. All kinds of junk gets in the teeth of the files and it's much, MUCH easier to remove with a brush of this sort. This is pretty much the standard in file brushes....do a search and Crescent is the name that will come up most often. There's not a ton to say about this...the handle is mostly solid - it's wood - and it's pretty comfortable to hold, especially as far as wood goes. The brush is ~$10 and it seems like a lot until your rasp or file isn't taking off material from the item you're working to remove material from. a few passes of this brush and you're bound to see the brush reappear from underneath the mounds of metal it has been removing. It works on fine teeth and the larger ones and has 2 sides for the varying needs. So far, so good.

This was a bit larger than I had imagined, at 10-inches long by two and an eighth inches wide by three-quarter thick (counting bristle brush on one side and wire on the other. It fits the hand nicely and provides for adequate cleaning of your surface files, whether they medium-toothed or rasps. However, in my opinion, the wire bristles are too widely spaced to be of much use for fine, model-working files.

I needed a good quality file card to try to salvage a load of good Nicholson files that were loaded with aluminum and rust. A good scrubbing with the steel brush, then a two day soak in white vinegar and another scrubbing made my files like new again!! Just be sure to scrub parallel to the teeth of your file. I would buy another...only if I lose this one... but this tool doesn't show any sign of use after a lot of abuse cleaning from #4 fine files to some heavy toothed wood rasps.

Having only used an old welding wire brush to clean files, I did not know what I was missing. These file cards really clean out pins and chips from files without dulling the file teeth. This thing also does a *much* better job than a run-of-the-mill wire brush, leaving the file feeling sharper than it was.

This is a replacement of the one I have had for over ten years. In a home shop tools get used as needed and sometimes not often,but sometimes all day. This brush cleans the files and picks out the pinned pieces quickly and easily. They last for years and make your files last longer and less deep scratches in your project. Another tool I couldn't do without while making parts. Highly recommend you have one for proper cleaning of metal files.
