I've had this for close to twenty years and never had a problem. At the time a bracket came with it and I never replace the O ring until now and I usually change the filter four times a year and by the way filters are getting too expensive. for those that have problems with installation I'd suggest you improve your skills first as this is about as easy to mount and plumb as you can get.

Leaking after 2 years

Installed this unit in spring of 2022 and had no issues with it until noticing this week that the outlet has a slow leak. With the fitting being PLASTIC I am afraid to try to take it apart to check the thread tape. I have so far been unable to figure out how to reach out to AO about a warrantee claim on this unit since it supposed to have a 6 year warrantee. I am disappointed that this expensive unit has started leaking and currently stressing about how to get it resolved without spending $$$.

Easy to Install

Just got this filter. looks well made. installation is really easy. so far so good.

do your home work ....easy install

No problems went together well. I did a loop install and by passed using the supplied shut off. Look inside your box! You can use the shut off and they supply you with the needed union fittings.

Get a manager instead of employee on returns

After two years of my Manufactures 6 year warranty the lid blew off.

LOVE IT

live in the country and the town water was so bad i wouldnt drink or cook with it. purchased this whole house filter and it was complete game changer! we vowed that every house in our future will have this system. not kidding..total recommendation. we just bought the water softner for the system too!

Not a backwashing unit

It's not recommended to keep carbon for 6 years in a unit that doesn't backwash. It's not sanitary. And there's no way this little amount of carbon would last as long as they claim.

Good Product Easy Installation

I bought this product to improve our city water taste and protect against contaminants. My plumber installed this unit with the Whole House Standard unit. Together, we have great tasting water. I like that the Whole House Central Filter has a 6-year warranty. The only problem I've had with the unit is a very small leak where the water intake pipe connects with the unit. A.O. Smith has issued me a return authorization and I'm working with Lowes to address the issue. Overall, I'm a fan of the Whole House Central Water Filter and A.O. Smith.

What micron level is this filter?

I have this filter with a sediment pre-filter. I know the sediment filter is .5 microns. I am needing a .35 micron filter. I have to make sure this filter is the right one but can't find anything about it. It has been in service for a month and still has been alright. There still is a sediment taste and smell in the water.

Bought this to go with the softener. Very thin and compact. Installed in about 15 mins after flushing. Its very easy to use and install.

These have a design flaw - using a plastic head assembly that threads to both the top of the canister and also to the pipe fittings. Over time, the plastic "cold-flows" (yes, that's a real term), acting like a very slow moving liquid. The pressure in the tank gradually lifts the flanged O-ring seal and it'll start leaking. Depending upon your house pressure, this will take some months to happen. Just as bad, the pipe fittings screw directly into the plastic, and again, over time, the plastic slowly flows away from the pressure of the fittings. Both threaded pipe fittings began leaking after about six months and were shockingly loose. I installed it and know they were snug. The fact that they're so loose made it very clear what's going on, and there is no fix. I guess this one's going back again for either #3, or another brand that doesn't use plastic.

Lowe's Poor Customer Service

I would love to write a review of the filter but it was never delivered. I called Lowe's and they said to contact FedEx. Refused a refund or replacement. Contacted FedEx and they said to contact Lowe's. Really horrible customer service from Lowe's. Learned my lesson - will do business with someone who believes in customer service.

Started leaking from the top after a month, this filter is garbage, do not waste your time and money!

since AO smith was only worried about my hardness on my last review. I properly installed the exact system you recommended since my water was right under 24 grams. The problem is it is seeping around the factor installed top piece!!!!! not where i properly installed the pipes. picture connected. look at the white or semi clear gasket you used to install the top piece. the liquid is water. what is the factory warranty? is there one?

I have installed a couple of these systems and have had no problems. Evan with some reviews about them leaking. so i installed them in my house last February and they are both seeping from around the top. where the tank joins the top inlet outlet pieces. I also haven't seen any deference in water hardness in dishwasher. lowes will do nothing because im past 90 days so i guess i have to eat the cost of something different. I wouldn't recommend at all..
