We have a spare bedroom with an old, dated ceiling light and we decided to change it. My wife likes the vintage look and this light definitely has it so the choice was mostly hers. The Del Mar flush mount light has a carved frosted glass shade. The product description said it’s a leaf design but my wife sees more of a flower. Pictures are attached but it is hard to see well. The Del Mar light is 15 inches round in size. It has 3 bulb outlets that can accept 60 watt bulbs with an E26 base so this provides a lot of light. I chose the brushed nickel metal as it goes with the rest of my hardware in this room but it also comes in white and bronze too. Since we had an existing light fixture, installation was a simple process. As with any electrical work, turn off your circuit breakers and if you are not comfortable doing it, hire a professional. I am very happy with the look and performance of this light and would definitely recommend it.

The fixture looks good enough from the floor and the price is easy on the wallet, but I had some issues. The brushed nickel finish is acceptable. The glass dome appears taller in the picture on the Home Depot site although the page does give dimensions. I thought the installation would take 10 minutes or maybe 15. That is where I had an issue. The electrical box was mounted about 1/8th inch recessed into the drywall so the bracket that holds the base of the fixture was recessed that amount. That small amount left the screws provided too short to reach through the fixture base. While almost everything you encounter in electrical screws are #6, 8 or 10 x 32 threads per inch, the screws provided with the mounting hardware are metric M4 x 0.7 (1 thread for each 07mm of length). I question whether those 40 mm long M4 x 0.7 screws provided would work even if your electrical box is flush with drywall face. That is after setting the fixture on a flat surface and placing the screws through the mounting holes. And all the threads on the screws, the center stem and the finial that holds the glass cover to the stem have threads that are “okay” at best. My solution to the short screw problem was solved by buying a bag of five #6-32 x 2-inch screws and nuts from The Home Depot fastener department and capturing the screw to the mounting bracket with a nut on both sides. Even these screws were none too long with the minimum amount of screw barely going through the bracket to receive a nut on the back side. While this is not a complicated installation, the instructions that cover about 8 different types of fixtures seem lacking in detail for new DIY individuals. Based on the installation issues and the “average” quality I gave the item 3 stars.

I love the look of this light fixture, but... the installation parts supplied left a lot to be desired. The mounting is standard "old school" multiple keyhole slots that screw into a supplied flat bracket. This type mounting has been used for probably 50 years. I have never loved this mounting because you have to "hunt" for the screw heads while the holes are covered on the back with 1/2" fiber insulation. This one even has a thin reflective insulation on the front side which also covers the holes. So the first thing you need to do is, cut around the holes and remove the front insulation. Then cut out sections of the back insulation to expose the holes. Only then do you have a chance of finding the screws. In this case that also was impossible since the supplied screws were at least 1/2" too short. So I went out and bought some 8-32 x 2-1/2" round head screws. That's all it took. After all that it took 2 minutes to install. It's a good quality fixture and looks very nice.
