Great design and Cat Approved
We have had Persians in our lives for >40 years. The breed is prone to urinary crystals and blockages, so making sure they are drinking lots of water is important. We didn’t feel as if our new boy was drinking enough and decided to try a fountain again. We’ve had good responses with fountains from other cats in the past, but we hadn’t been terribly happy with the fountains themselves.
[Rewarded Review] Could've lit my wall on fire. Melted the outlet!
The first time I washed this water bowl after using it for a week I noticed the plug felt unusually warm and was a light tan color on one side. A few days after that I just happened to be walking by and heard sizzling...I stopped looked around and saw smoke coming out of the now blackened and melted outlet this was plugged into. It never tripped the circuit breaker. I'm not a professional so I don't know where to lay blame but there was no water splashed up on it, 12" away. I've used this outlet countless times over the past two years for everything from vacuums, steamer mops to portable speakers and cell phones as it's in a visible convenient location, having no issues prior to this. What if I hadn't of been home...? I was seriously considering returning it anyway because my two shih-tsu's and cat weren't really catching on to waiting for the sensor to activate the water fountain feature. When it's not sitting on the charging base and plugged in they weren't using it at all so I had to either leave it running or keep their regular water bowl out. When the fountain isn't running there is no still water on top for them to drink from...meh. Not worth the price. Certainly not worth the risk either considering what happened.
Wish the Spout wasn't plastic
I had other fountains, but was looking for one that didn't get as grimey and had few parts to clean. Unfortunately, this gets grimey after just a couple days, where the other lasted at least a week. Although it is easier to clean, just like others, it still has small crevices in the filter holding that I have to use a toothpick to clean out. I could live with that except, my cat is reacting to the plastic and his lip looks swollen. I've never had other plastic bowls for this reason as previous cats were also allergic, so was hoping this would be different. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Noisy & Leaky
This product initially worked pretty well, though my thirsty cats required frequent refills. I have had it for maybe 9 months. In the past month or 2, this has started leaking all over my kitchen tile floor. I nearly slipped and cracked open my skull because of the size of the puddle it created today. My spoiled kitties expect moving water and refuse to use the other backup bowls whenever this stops working (which is multiple times per week), so it’s time to find a replacement. Also, it gets so gurgly sometimes it sounds like I installed an indoor water feature. Nice idea but this product needs some re-engineering.
Solid Purchase!
After going through 3 other different cat water fountains, I believe I have found the absolute best with the Petlibro Dockstream! With others, I was having several issues such as the lid being maneuvered off and falling into the water basin, kitty literally playing in the water flow causing large amounts of water puddling on the floor, awkward cleaning of small parts, etc. With this brand/model, there are 2 fasteners to keep the water tray/lid in place which totally keeps my intelligent little feline at bay! I have not had any more problems with finding the lid in the water reservoir! And, with the quietness and flow of the water coming from the fountain, he no longer seems interested in making a mess by splashing out water. I don't seem to be getting nearly as much fur in the filters and it is VERY easy to clean! Having no wires is also a big plus which means no messy wires connecting to a wall and no wires running through the water basin. Though it was a bit more costly than others I've had, it far outweighs all the other issues that were going on. Mommy and fur babies are very happy & satisfied with this water fountain!!! :-)
Nothing impressive
I have been through at least half a dozen fountains... I put off buying another one because more or less, they're all the same. But knowing how much my one cat loves running water, so I took the leap with Petlibro again. It's not a bad purchase, per se, but in having the fountain over the last two months, it certainly isn't low maintenance. I already give my cats bottled drinking water, so the filters are mostly to keep their water free from debris. Rather than dumping and replacing little bowls every other day, I thought that this fountain would make it so they'd have clean water the whole week. I found if I don't break it down every week, bacteria starts to visibly build up in the tank and in the pump (light pink color). On the positive side, there seem to be less parts involved in the cleaning process with it being wireless. Also, the fountain is very quiet. According to the user manual, it says to break down and clean every two weeks, but this isn't anywhere near sufficient in my experience. I don't recall having the same issue with stainless steel tanks--but that doesn't alleviate the issue with the fountain being plastic. Just some things to keep in mind. It works for now.
[Rewarded Review] PETLIBRO drinking fountain
I was very excited to find this battery operated drinking fountain for my animals since where I place the water is not near an outlet in my kitchen. Honestly, I was expecting it to need alkaline batteries, so I was pleasantly surprised when it was rechargeable. Unfortunately, it doesn't work any where near as well as I would have hoped. In an effort to help save the battery the fountain shuts off and is motion activated. This freaks my cats out and they won't drink from it. But an even bigger problem is that the upper bowl doesn't stay full. The water seems to drain back into the reservoir so the animals don't even know there's water there. They just think it's a dry bowl. Also, the sensors on the battery tray aren't all that accurate. The light that's supposed to tell me that the battery is low doesn't seem to work. And the one that supposed to let me know that the water level is low isn't accurate and tells me I need to refill the reservoir even when it's more than half full. It truly does not work for us and if I still had the packaging I would return the unit. Unfortunately, if they don't make changes I couldn't recommend this purchase to anyone.
It’s ok
I ordered 2 initially from Petlibro and that was a HUGE mistake! It’s the same product but trying to deal with them at all is completely impossible! They NEVER answer the phone or respond to emails or return call, because of that I ordered directly from Chewy because they have amazing customer service. I like the fountain, my cats really like it. I don’t like that the spout is made of plastic and I don’t like that it doesn’t continuously run or filter the water but I just keep it on the docking station and leave it plugged in. I do like the idea of a battery operated fountain I just really wish that it ran continuously like the plug in ones. Because I have to use it plugged in to get the constant filtration and flow I’m giving it 3 stars as it isn’t any better or worse than any other fountain I’ve used. I will caution you against ordering this or any Petlibro product directly from them. I can’t even say that their customer service is bad because it’s nonexistent. Buy it here because if you have a problem you will always have that problem.
moving wate fountain for kitty
I was trying to encourage my cat to drink more water. Since cats like moving water, I decided to look for one. I wanted one that charges, so it wouldn't have to be plugged in all the time with a cord connected to it. Once charged, it works beautifully. The charge lasts 6-7 days and the filter has to be changed every 14 days. The video on the Chewy website was helpful because there's so many parts to wash and put back together. Also the unit turns on when my cat gets close and runs for a few seconds. At first my cat was afraid to drink water because it turned on when he got close, but he's used to it now. It is also very quiet.
[Rewarded Review] Fairly good, just wish it was app compatible.
I bought this fountain because I tend to forget to give my pets water. And since it's the same brand as my auto feeders I thought I might as well go ahead and grab this watering fountain. Now, this particular one does not work with the pet libro app. It just cycles water on its own. You have to remember to do things like change the filters and clean it. So keep that in mind as you're purchasing. There is another model for $10 more approximately that is app compatible. I would check before purchasing to make sure that the model that you're buying is at compatible if you're interested in that. If it doesn't matter then this model or the smaller model works just fine. I do want to mention that this particular fountain is not used for cats. But for relatively small dogs. My biggest dog is just about approaching medium size. I don't know if I would use this particular fountain for any bigger animal. But I did want to mention something that I did extra that doesn't come with the base model. And that's I added a cheap $10 step stool and attached it to it via command strips. This is not required. But it does make it easier for me to access and it keeps it off the floor. You also can see that there is a pet food mat right underneath it. That's just for keeping things neat and tidy. This is not required - particularly if you are going to be using this with cats. But as I don't have any cats I wanted to make sure that this was at an easier height for my dogs to access. I wish there was a bigger model better designed for bigger animals, but as of this moment I don't know of one. So this modifications do work but will not help everyone. For cats this is way too far off the ground. And for bigger animals there's just not enough water in the basin for them. You would probably want to look at a different option. Whatever that is.
Love this water fountain (tried many others in the past)
I’ve tried many other cat water fountains in the past. The cats either eventually stop using them or they are hard to clean. I like this one because you can charge the base and don’t have to keep it plugged in all the time. My cats love that the fountain isn’t always running. It runs when it detects your pet close by. Cats are so smart and one of my cats tends to sneak up on the fountain from the side and he loves to get the fountain to turn on. He’ll move his paw on the side and stick his nose close until it turns on. He gets annoyed if I come close and the machine turns on. It’s so easy to clean. The only thing to know is chewy doesn’t sell the filters but you can get them on the company website or on Amazon.
Finally, a Great Fountain!
What a great fountain! Great size for two cats who hate each other. This is my 4th fountain and it’s the best one I have ever used. Easy to clean, change filter, take apart and put together. It does not get slimy after 3 days like some other fountains. It’s very quiet and shows a red light when the water is low. I have not a single complaint. I keep mine on the base at all times so I cannot speak to the battery life. I have one cat who likes to splash water out of previous fountains and he does not do that with this one. I am not sure why but it’s another bonus for me. This is thoughtfully made and worth the price. I also use this brand for my automatic feeder.
Notifies you when water low with a flash. I have 2 cats and it's lasts about a week (they also go outside so drink elsewhere). I have 2 rabbits and theirs could last just under 2 weeks but i wouldn't leave for more than a week without a clean as filters can become clogged with furr and who doesn't prefer fresh. Originally got as vet recommended a fountain to encourage my rabbits to drink more, and I belive it does. First was not sure my little dwarf rabbit would reach but he just puts his feet on edge like pic, and no risk of tipping. So as my rabbits took to it ( little one took a few weeks) I bought another for my cats and I feel the filter adds freshness to make it more appealing. I have added a barrier as my older cat likes to drink by pushing against the side so I get puddles, this have prevented that mostly. I have both mine on continous charge now and no issues. Originally had on battery, would last at least a week, and motion detection fine, although will stop after few seconds so if they are still drinking it will go dry. Would recommend. Easy components to clean also. Replacement filters required so do need factor that in.
Defective
I am very disappointed. The software worked for maybe a couple of weeks and then it just stopped working. I first noticed it when I got a notification that a cat had just drank some water when both cats were in front of me sleeping. Since then it has only gotten worse, with notifications coming in several times a day when I know both cats are in another room. I clean everything as suggested so that is not the issue. I don't know how the fountain senses a cat is drinking or water missing, but for $80 it is very disappointing. Aside from that it is a very pretty fountain. If only my cats would drink from it...
Disappointed
When I read the description it had said stainless steel, but the only stainless steel is the tray where they are supposed to drink from. The bowl that holds the water is plastic. I don't give them plastic dishes or bowls, only ceramic or stainless steel.
satisfied, but...
I want to love this water fountain, but I have noticed some issues. there are also things that I really do like about it: it holds a decent amount of water (and my two cats drink plenty), its very quiet, it has a sleek design, and its fairly easy to disassemble and clean. I do a deep clean and refill about every week and a half.
Amazing Fountain!
I bought this initially because I noticed my cat wasn’t drinking very much water and I began to become concerned for her kidney health although she’s only 11 months old. When I was waiting for the fountain to arrive, I noticed her water bowl barely empty a cm. This really worried me. I also read that moving the water bowl to a different room can improve their water intake, so I moved her water bowl to her “play area” or the living room and added one more by her tower. I noticed she did drink a lot more, but the water bowl still wasn’t emptying much.
[Rewarded Review] Great water bowl
The stainless steel bowl is easy to clean. The bowl being wireless is great. You dont have to unplug the bowl and carry around a wire while trying to clean it. only complaint really is that when the water is around a third full the water splashing inside the bowl is pretty loud. They advertise quiet operation. Filters are on the expensive side compared to other foutain water bowls. Best buy is the cheapest option for this 22.99 for 8 filters. This should be 4 months of use if going by manufaterer recomenation. Petlibros filters from their site is 30 dollars for the same. This bowl is great i wish i spent a little more and got the app connected one. As far as i can tell the only differnce in the two is the base. The app connected base as of 2/12/24 is not something sold seperatly from the brand so choose wisely the first time.
Adore this fountain
I’ve tried several fountains over the years for my cat- the metal ones, the ceramic ones, and none of them have been quite right. They’re all loud as heck and need a thick towel or something under them, some of them make the water smell very strongly of plastic, and they all plug into the wall so I’m limited in where I can put them. We haven’t had this one too long so I’ll see about its longevity but so far it’s perfect. It’s wireless so it can go anywhere we want, it holds a ton of water, it’s motion activated so not constantly running and wearing down the battery, and absolutely silent when it runs. Our cat prefers running water and took to this within 10 minutes of setting it up. I have two minor complaints…one is that sometimes the motion sensor doesn’t trigger even when she walks right in front of it, but it triggers often enough that it doesn’t really make a difference. The other is that I wish it had a small window so you could physically see the water level. But it does have low water and low battery lights so it’s the next best thing. If it lasts a while it’ll be unbeatable.
Cats love it
We had previously bought a different fountain that would randomly go off (it wasn’t motion activated). When it broke we decided to try a motion activated water fountain. What a difference! The cats couldn’t be bothered by the old fountain since it wasn’t water “on demand”. But they love this fountain and are drinking a lot of water now, which is the whole point. This fountain is also very easy to clean and refill. I did have to adjust where I put it because initially one side of the motion sensor was blocked so the fountain only when off when they approached from one side. Now they can set it off from all 3 sides (there is no sensor in back, which the cats haven’t figured out yet). I am very happy with this purchase and so are the cats.
