The original Davenport Desk - PHOTOS

As I understand, the first Davenport Desk was built to the specifications of Captain John Davenport in 1790 for the purpose of fitting inside his shipboard cabin. These became very popular and often ornate during the 1800s. The DL replica is modeled after his original desk. I do not own this DL replica and cannot speak of its merit. The five stars are given for DL's apparently meticulous recreation of this antique, and I am writing this review for the people who curiously criticize the size of this heirloom. It is what it is - a piece of history, exact and true. I own one, which I believe to be an early production, perhaps 200 years old. Despite its age and wear, it is one of my favorite pieces. I am providing these photos for comparison with the DL replica.

Great desk However . . .

Ordered this as a Christmas present. I didn't pull a tape measure out to see how high it is and was surprised how short it is - - at first glance looks like a child's desk. But when you sit at it, lot more comfortable that I originally thought. Unfortunately, I have 2 issues with it: one the packing material includes lots of styrofoam and interior drawers scratched the inside of the desk because they were not secured during shipping. Would much prefer DT use compostable packing materials. Two, part of one of the sides is unfinished, leaving a stripe of unfinished mahogany that's clearly visible. So hopefully, DT will replace the item or cover my costs to have it fixed. There should be better quality control. This is the first time we've had any issues with DT so hoping they make it right.

This is a very durable rug and very easy to clean. The subtle colors and textures really look great in our room. No issues to report. We are happy with it.

Floral Grey Rug

This rug fits perfectly in my den. The grey accents perfectly match my other grey furniture, and the cream color matches my walls. It's a soft rug, not overly plush, and I get a lot of compliments on it!

A Beautiful Little Desk!
