Even grandma can do it!
My first charcoal barbecue, and it was a snap. The unit was very easy to assemble and required very little assembly. I recommend the chimney starter for those new to grilling Added an image
[Rewarded Review]
Char-Broil grills are great. I had one of these (a similar model) years ago and it was the best small charcoal grill I ever owned. So, when I saw this one I had to buy it. I haven't tried it out yet since I just got it, but I'm sure it will be awesome!
Good value. Size nice 4 travel, or mini cook-out
Works well
Not happy but easy to assemble
There are 7 medium large holes in the bottom which ash could fall out of and not on the side as stated in the description. Therefore there is no way to control the flow of air. And there are two wide vented area in the back of the lid. So there is no real control of the ventilation there either whatsoever other than putting the lid on or off. Not that that would help much because of its vents. It says in the instructions to not use more than 10 charcoal briquettes at a time. I wish that was stated in the description. The metal is weak and that’s why you should only use 10 briquettes at a time. The three handles are a solid plastic which I noticed are quite eager to conduct heat. “Ouch”. The food rack is a wee bit too thin for my liking. Another thing is the tin in which you put the briquettes on. It is a little stronger than other reviews led me to believe. It’s real problem is that it can easily tip and shift you briquettes. So there is not a lot of safety features to it. As an emergency backup to my Weber grill I guess it’ll do. But not a happy camper. Should have given it 1 star, but decided on 2 only because it really was easy to assemble. I don’t expect it to last very long at all (3-5 times max). And for the price it could have been a little better. I wonder if I plug 2 of the holes on the bottom of the grill if it would allow better control or if it would melt the housing. Either way it would void the warranty, so best not to.
Versatility
Versatility. Easy to have a barbecue at home, the beach, and or camping. With propane your ready to go in minutes. My recommendation is to buy the hose that attaches to a 20 lb. tank and you'll never run out of propane.
SERIOUS DESIGN FLAWS.
Malfunctioning Regulator
The size and the price were perfect for our camping trips. Assembled it and tried it out. The regulator does NOT work! There are no replacement parts for it.
Very good portable grill
Good portable grill. I like that it folds up like a fishing tackle box. This makes it more portable than a smokey joe (by weber) or a circular design. The coal tray is pretty thick metal. Ventilation is on the sides and bottom. Bottom holes are made so ash will not spill out. This is deep enough and wide enough to do a 5 lb. chicken set in the bottom on a rack on the ash tray. In my "test drive" it really heated up fast and hot. Clean up was easy and no ash was spilled. With the lid on for 30 min the top handle got a little hot. That was the only minus I observed. Amazon sells a 17.5 x 10.2 inch porcelain grate I'm trying to upgrade the grate a little. Hope it fits. This is the best of 3 portables I"ve tried. Very pleased with it.
Small portable grill
Nice small portable charcoal grill. I really like how easy it collapses and you are able to store and carry. I have used it once so far and seems to work fine. I did not have any issues with the handles melting or being too hot as other reviewers said. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the inside of the grill came scratched.
Great for price
For the price this thing is great. Ive read several concerns in reviews about stability, plastic handles, and lack of vents, but none of these are completely accurate. The grill is plenty stable if you assemble it correctly. The plastic handles never even get more than slightly warm let alone post a risk of melting. And the vents are located on one side of the cover and under the grill allowing the perfect amount of air to flow through.
positive
Great for grilling. Compact size allows you to put the grill in places stand-up grills can't go. The price is good too.
Solid Grill!
Can't go wrong with this grill. I've bought many of these over the years and this one is the best model so far. Its design allows fast startup for grilling. During COVID, I had this shipped to a hotel for holiday so I could grill.
You get what you pay for.
Good for grilling small items. The size means that the cook time isn't that long to work with and the heat produced isn't that high either. All I'll say is that it gets the job done and the food tastes great at the end of the day. You're getting what you pay for.
Plastic handles?
Plastic handled on side even though there on the outside might melt under the heat of the grill. Only time will tell. Good for steaks, chops, hot dogs and hamburger. Good for two to four people.
wrong width in description attracts people to buy
wrong measurement. the grill size is 17x11. assembled product size is length 22" width less than 12" and hight with handle and legs 11". how can you fool people that it is 18" wide. WRONG!!! the quality is good otherwise.
Excellent Little Grill
Great little grill cooks fairly quickly and evenly. And it's much more convenient than my big charcoal grill. Very easy to take camping or to the lake. Unfortunately, the burner only lasts for about 18 months before it corrodes...and Char-Broil no longer stocks replacement burners. For the $, it's a great deal.
MY LINGERING QUESTION
After perusing many grills, I think this is the one I want. One question, though. The cover of this charcoal grill appears to have no vent holes or louvers. Is the grill designed for cooking with the cover on or off?
Unsure
It may be okay, but we returned ours. We had one very similar years ago and ordered this one because we thought it would be the same as the old one. Our other one had side and top air vents, which worked perfectly to allow for air flow. This one has vents in the bottom, but none on top. We were concerned about ashes falling out of the bottom and assumed that you couldn't cook with the cover on, with no vents on the top. Otherwise it is a nice compact portable grill and seems to have some decent reviews. We were just disappointed that it wasn't like our old one, which worked so well.
Overall Nice Grill!
I have not used the grill yet but this is the third time I bought this grill. I really like the fact the charcoal is close to the grates so it does not use as much. It is also nice to make small meals. You can use one side then the other without cleaning each time. The weak spot is the tray holding the charcoal. I wish it was a little thicker because it does weaken and develop holes.
Great little grill!!!!!!
I ordered this little grill due to a hurricane coming to my area. It works great for the size. I am not a griller, but this did the trick. I did not need to use it for what I bought it for but have since used it 3 times and I does the job and is easy to clean up. I live in an apt. and this grill works great. Very easy to store and the price was right.
