Summer must have for the city
If you have small balcony or limited yard space- this is great buy. For my little family of 4 this grill was amazing all summer long. It was enough for us to make couple steaks and grilled vegetables or 4-6 burgers. You can easily take it with you on a camping trip.
Durable little grill
This portable grill is the best I've used. Great quality, very affordable and love that the handles fold over to keep the lid secure when not in use. Nice to have would be a way to catch the grease drips. However, I put a disposable foil pan under it just in case, and after two uses there was weren't any drips.
GREAT GRILL FOR FALL HUNT MEALS!
BOUGHT THIS GRILL TO REPLACE 10 YEAR OLD SIMILAR GRILL! COMPACT AND GREAT FOR SHORT QUICK MEALS AND HEATING COFFEE! MADE A LOT OF TRIPS OUT WEST AND NORTH FOR PACK IN TRIPS! GREAT VALUE FOR 5 BUCKS A YEAR USE! FAST DELIVERY AND FAIR PRICE ON GRILL! QUALITY GRILL NO JUNK!
Great Portable Grill
Great grill. This is the 3rd one I have owned. Price keeps going up but these are great portable grills for car camping, at the river or where ever. I put lava rocks in mine which soak up the drippings that provide a much better flavor when their broken in. The lava rocks also provide a more even heat. I did this to my Weber Grill at home - works awesome
Decent portable grill
Decent portable grill. Flares up a little more than I would like and I need to put an aluminum tray underneath it to catch drippings. My second use I grilled burgers and was surprised that drippings dropped out of the bottom of the grill. Not a huge deal but I wasn't expecting that. Over all it does what it is supposed to do.
First Propane Grill Ever
I watched videos before I put together and after. I learned I could place flavor wood chips in an aluminum foil packet to enhance flavor. I did it and left the wood chip pouch in the center of grill until it started smoking than pushed it to the side to make my bbq. Omg! No one would've guessed this was first propane grill because my bbq turned out fantastic!! The low level flame was more than enough to cook meat. So happy I bought this!
Decent for the price.
Decent little grill. Very easy to assemble and set up. Expect to see a few dings on some of the parts. It’s very light material. As far as the functionality, I a couple of steaks on it and they came out just fine. Don’t expect too much, it’s a cheap grill, but it comes in handy if you like to cook outdoors. I like the size (small, compact) and the fact that the lid can hang from the base. Just a tip—be sure to wear heat resistant gloves if you decide to cover it while cooking. The handle gets VERY hot. Other than that, no complains.
I had to order this grill two times, the first arrived bent and I was unable to put it together. I called Wayfarer and they did send me a replacement and also allow me to keep the damaged one. It is a good thing that I still had the first grill because the new grill arrived just as damaged. My son-in-law was able to make one grill out of parts of both. It does not close quite right so that lets more air gets into the grill than is supposed to making it easier for whatever I am cooking burn faster if I don't keep a close eye on it. Not real happy about that.
No one wants to stand by the so called warranty!
Regulator stopped working fist time using. Called seller, they only warranty for 30 days, so I call Char broil directly, they tell me the so called 1 year warranty is actually only good for replacement parts and they we going to charge me shipping for a new regulator. I just wanted my money back because I don't trust this grill to work when I need it to. But NO! Would not suggest to anyone. I wasted 45 minutes on the phone over this so called warranty. I would have given them a ZERO if that was allowed.
Works great. Works for tailgating. Simple design. We start it up early and let it cool completely before putting in the car. It is very convenient. We buy the smaller propane tanks that screw in. Keep a few with you so you don’t run out mid cooking. I recommend using this.
Simple little inexpensive grill, great for camping or something that requires traveling because of its compact size and lightweight portability so you can take it just about anywhere. It does have a built in ignitor so it’s easy to light but getting it to stay lit in the beginning is tricky cause it seemed to wanna go out with any little breeze. Once it does get going and heats up, it cooks wonderfully, just like one of the larger ones. Be super careful because the handles seem to be cheaply made plastic and get very very hot to the touch which is something I didn’t like.
Threads on regulator improperly made
I've owned several of these portable CharBroil grills over the past 30 years so was not expecting any problems with this one. However, on this one the threads for the propane bottle are not cut correctly and the bottle won't go on without it trying to cross-thread. After assembling the grill, I took a propane bottle off of my Coleman lantern and tried to put it on the grill regulator. I could not get it to properly start on the threads. The bottle went back on the Coleman lantern just fine, so it is not the bottle. I even tried it on a second bottle with no luck. The maddening thing is there are 3 different Q.C. stickers on the regulator itself! So, three different people actually looked at the regulator and passed it.
Good alternative to large grills
I have and use regularly a full size Char-Broil grill. Propane is getting less available and more expensive. That's why I bought this little grill. No need to fire up the giant grill these days for one person. Especially with the way the country is in at the moment. Pros: small, lightweight and sturdy. Would also be great for camping. Cons: ALWAYS wear a mitt or glove when touching the lid handle - as hot as the lid itself. Using an infrared temp gun, I could see the heat isn't uniform across the grill itself. Didn't expect it to be but just know that when you cook on it. I gave it 4 stars just because of the handle heat. If you're like me and prudent with expensive propane (at least for now), this grill is for you. And it's $4.49 less than when I bought it a few days ago.
Great For The Price
I have purchased several of these over the years. I use it 10+ times a year for camping and tailgating. They typically last for 5+ years and eventually break or stop working. Whenever that happens, I go buy another.
Great portable gas grill for the money
We got this grill recently to replace a cheaper one from another big box store. It only had held up one year, and I'm hoping that the build quality of this Char Broil 190 is better. The handles get hot to the touch, which is one disadvantage. Other portable grills that I've seen have the ability to isolate heat away a bit better. These are just cheap plastic handles, the top one especially gets hot so keep that in mind. The gas regulator seems of good design which is extremely important to me. The last grill I had the regulator give out, hence the replacement. I like the legs they are sturdy and allow you to fold the grill up tight for transporting. Picnics, camping, tailgating...this little grill will hopefully be perfect. The top cooking grate is coated, it is not 100% stainless. I am going to look into replacing this eventually with a higher quality grate. Wind makes it a pain to light sometimes. Like how the lid hangs off the back thanks to the little notched brackets, instead of you just setting it on the ground or table next to it. The gas flow control does an ok job, just keep the Venturi tube clear. I noticed that it's touchy on my grill at full bore High or all the way to Low. Somewhere in the middle is where I find myself adjusting to. Overall a decent grill. I give it 4 stars. If you have the extra funds go for the Deluxe version with the piezo electric start. This works fine for us and I was on a wicked budget.
Don't bother
I thought this grill would be perfect for an occasional car camping trip as the size and price were just right. Unfortunately, the regulator was useless. After doing the recommended 15 minutes break in I tested the grill's temperatures with a high quality digital thermometer with grill grate probe. Without ever going past "low" I was not able to get a reading under the thermometers maximum of 570 degree F! I called Charbroil and we did some trouble shooting (recycled regulator 3 times) but no improvement. The rep then offered to send out a new regulator but was told it could take up to 15 days. I then ordered another grill and that regulator was no better. The replacement regulator did arrive. Although it was cosmetically different it did not work any better. I tried cooking a few burgers and couldn't believe the smoke from such a hot grill. I ended up returning both grills and through in the 3rd regulator in one of the boxes. It could be a great product if they would simply charge a few more dollars and supply a decent regulator.
Great little grill. Worth every penny after its first use.
This is marked "used," but this is not a used item. It came in an unopened box with everything neatly padded and sealed. The instructions were easy to follow (with pictures...yeaa!). The only thing I would suggest is that you tilt the item a bit to the back away from the propane tank so that the juices from whatever it is you're bbqing do not drip down the burner and out on to your propane tank. Set the grill on a board and tilt the board a bit to the back is what I eventually did. I also drilled a hole in the back of the grill so that the juices could drain out into a cup as the bbqing progressed. If you don't do that, the juices remain in the grill unit and you will eventually have to clean up a pool of stuff. Great little unit. Worth every penny, and I got my money's worth after the first dozen chicken thighs came off the grill (yummy!). Thanks VM EXPRESS DEALS! Might want to re-title your ad on Ebay to remove the "(USED)" word. This was not a used item.
Perfect for a single person or couple.
I use this almost every night in the summer. Because of its size, it uses far less gas and cooks faster than an expensive large BBQ. I suggest buying an adapter hose for a regular size propane tank, but the camping tanks last about 2 hours. There’s a wide heat dispersion plate under the grill rack which makes it perfect for adding wood chips for smoking your food as it cooks. (I prefer Hickory). The only negative side to this grill is that the lid handle gets too hot to touch without an oven glove. I have a silicone glove I keep beside the BBQ. I had one of these for 4 years before the burner rusted through, and I had trouble finding this replacement. I tried 2 other grills just like this for a very similar price, and they were both garbage, and that’s where they ended up. Then I found this one again at Best Buy, and didn’t hesitate to purchase.
It's like a chihuahua...wanting to be a dog.
No, this did not meet my expectation. From so many who rave about having a gas grill, I'll keep my large charcoal over gas anyday.
Great so far
I recently took this on a trip, and camping both of which it didn't disappoint. I also use it at home on my patio to save space. It's nice that the legs fold up and keep the lid on and you can carry it that way. I was worried that being so small that it would burn too hot but it seems to be just right . I can see how the hooks that hold the lid in place when you slide it back and how the legs could both break overtime. However, anyone with any ingenuity or patience to order new parts can easily repair. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for this is a great little Grill but it has its flaws. Be wary of the legs if you push or slide the grill to one side it will topple. Also the canisters you use for gas hang lower than the bottom of the legs so care needs to be taken to either place something underneath that or again be wary of the fact that the propane tank has to hang off the table. That can easily be fixed with an extension hose however. Overall, for the money you really can't beat it. I would say that you should have some common sense and be careful of your surroundings and have some experience grilling. But it sure beats spending $150 for a camping stove or a gigantic grill that takes up 10 times as much space but has virtually the same cooking surface area. Not perfect, but I'm sure it will last well beyond its price tag.
