The unit looks good, the chimney was hard to install and needs a better way to shorten it with out having to cut the metal. The vent was a hose not a solid metal pipe. The hose is not a good way to vent these units. And is not supported in by Range Hood Professionals. The unit seemed cheap with a hose. The unit did not seem to draw the air very well, when we put a small paper under it to test it. Overall, it doesn't work very well. We are very disappointed.

Consumer Reports failed me! Install Nightmare!

I'm a handy guy. I've wired and plumbed 2 houses, framed, drywalled, built a swimming pool, etc. I have NEVER hated an install more than trying to put this thing together. It was Consumer Reports recommended buy, so maybe it works and lasts like a dream, but I know that the instillation aged me 15 years. The directions are vague where they are not dead wrong. eg. they "imply" that you're supposed to attach it direction to the drywall, but enclosed screws too short to go through drywall and still sink into the rafter above it. So I cut out the drywall square so I could mount it, but then other screw holes are hidden by the drywall edges. Another: there is no physical way to install the 16 required screws to hold the blower unit to the scaffoling because the top 8 are literally covered by the baffle. I could go on. There's actually a cottage industry of youtube videos by people trying to install this exact vent hood showing all the work around required to get it mounted. Another: the electrical hook up is a standard 3-plug, but there is NO hole by which to get it into the attic to the outlet (or to get a wire down into the baffle to install the outlet below). But all the instructions say is, "electrical hook up must be to local code." Duh! And don't eat the styrofoam either. If you buy this, get a professional to do it, and bring popcorn when they install it, because you'll have quite drama on your hands and will have to write a big compensatory check to have them do it. Again, I assume CR was telling me it'll work well for a long time, but I wish they'd have tested for install chaos too, because if they had, this would be on the bottom of the list. Oh one more: they blue plastic protective film that covers all the stainless (which is a good thing in principle), they put it on BEFORE they assembled the parts, so it goes down into every crevice, and you can't get it out. Spent an HOUR digging at the seams with an exacto knife to get it out. What a nightmare!

Range vent is absolutely perfect for our island.Took my wife and I only a few hours to install it. Definitely need two people to lift the vent and put the final bolts in the brackets. Blue shipping plastic that is attached to both hoods was a challenge to remove. Figured out I needed to take a sharp knife and cut right along the attaching point and then slowly remove it instead of trying to take it off piece by piece. The fan is not extremely loud especially on low. The lighting is nice. I would definitely recommend this unit, especially at the price.

I absolute love it. It met all my expectations. I had someone install it for me and it took about 3 hours because they had to go through my kitchen ceiling and up through the attic and then vent it out of the roof. When it was done it was beautiful. The fan on high can be a little loud but unless you are cooking something really smokey the lower-level fan is just fine. The light is led so it has a bright blue-ish color to it which I am not fond of because the other lighting in my kitchen is soft white. I am going to try to change the bulb to see it it helps. Other than that it is perfect for my needs.

Great Quality but Poor Installation Instructions

Installation: If you are the installer, the instructions in the box and online are useless. You need to figure out how to assemble the down angle brackets by yourself. Do not place any screw/washer/nut combinations that hold each of the the four sets of two down angle brackets together any closer than 18 inches from the bottom of the brackets when joined or the fan/light unit will not slide up between the four angle brackets when you try to attach it. The protruding screw/washer/nut combination will prevent that attachment. The stainless steel is well protected by sticky blue plastic from the manufacturer and you will spend about an hour painfully peeling that off, and it sticks in the crevices. You need to buy 6 inch flexible vent pipe, heavy duty metal not the thin foil type that will tear, to extend venting to the outside roof or soffit. Functionality: The unit is quiet and powerful. The lights are bright. Overall, if you are very patient and are very handy and have two helpers plus yourself when you go to lift and attach the unit you will like the final result. Otherwise, pass.

Great except for a HUGE issue. Not DIY friendly at all. Incorrect installation height advertised. To get the smallest hight advertised (which is exactly the height you want for standard 8 foot ceilings) I had to cut each piece of the upper vent cover in half. These pieces have to be installed prior to installing the main unit and therefore at the provided size allow no room to connect the electrical or to even screw the main unit into the brackets.

My husband and I wanted to replace our vented AKDY island range hood. We read many consumer reviews of similar items and decided to purchased this Cosmo range hood. We ordered it online from the Home Depot website. It shipped and arrived quickly! The sturdy box was not damaged. The larger pieces inside were wrapped well. However, the MANY smaller pieces (screws, nuts, washers, etc.) were just thrown into one large plastic bag! Luckily, the included Users Manual listed quantities of these small parts. Once we sorted and counted these little parts, we found we were missing:

Just installed this one. Looks and works good. Reason for 3 stars instead of 5 stars is that installation is very hard for DIY. Must be 2 -3 person job for a whole day work including running to Home Depot again for getting 4 x 2 inch construction screws and washers to mount the ceiling mount to the ceiling wood plate, lucky I have that. The provided ceiling mount screws are for mounting onto dry wall ceiling only. I do not trust dry wall can be strong enough to hold this 60 lb system. Instruction not detailed, missing many pieces of critical information to avoid the snags during installatio. if follow it’s steps, it becomes almost impossible to hold the assembled whole range hood system while putting hard screws to the ceiling mount. It is possible only if 2 strong persons can be available to hold and push up the whole piece all the way to ceiling while another person is putting the 4 screws into the ceiling mount. Screws are very tight fit onto the ceiling mount holes. Need drill screw driver. The upper support frames need screwed from outside to the ceiling mount. Make sure the upper support frame is outside onto the lower support frame, this way, the height of the chimney can be more room to adjust.
