I was having issues installing a new replacement August Smart Keypad. After exhausting hours trying to determine what I was doing wrong, I called August Support.

Good with one issue so far

My wife loves this so far. Her phone was not consistently auto unlocking the door, so we added the keypad. However, it stopped working after about a week. Removed the batteries and tested them, and they were a little low already. I replaced them and it’s up and running again. Hope they last longer going forward!!!

Does not last

A temperamental keypad that drains batteries and does not last! We installed it 18 months ago and it has already failed. Called technical support to troubleshoot and they confirmed that it is no longer working.

Useful pretty reliable blue tooth key pad

I ordered this to replace the original August keypad because the tiny clip on the bottom that secures it to the mounting bracket broke off. That little snap clip is very hard to reach and release, thus the first one snapped. This is definitely a design flaw. Also, as much as it is an essential component of the August Lock system, it uses up batteries much too quickly, lately within 2-3 weeks. This is another flaw.

Keypad broken in less than 2 years

I have been very happy with this system but for whatever reason, the keypad is connecting to my internet, but when I try to unlock the door, the pad no longer lights up and does not unlock my door. Make sure you have a back up plan to get into your house, especially if your phone is not on your hip all the time. I was lucky that another door was unlocked and was still able to get in. Disappointing that products just don't last anymore and all one can do it replace it, which I am going to do with a different brand. Less than 2 years. Wow!!

Greet when it works. Nightmare to troubleshoot.

We bought this for our airbnb so that guests could easily get in. When it works it does the job it’s expected to do. But it doesn’t always work. The battery life is not great and you can’t even see a battery level on the app, which is so stupid to me. You just have to wait for a notification that the batteries are almost dead and then you have one or two days to change them. If you have any issue with the wifi at your house the keypad can disconnect from the system and you can’t troubleshoot it remotely. You have to be on site. For us this is annoying as the house is 2 hours away and it’s really irritating to have to drive 4 hours round trip to do a simple reset that should be possible remotely. If you do call their tech support no one can do much. They just tell you disconnect it and try to reconnect. No additional help whatsoever. Not happy with August and we will be switching to another product. Would only recommend this if it’s used at your primary residence, and even there I would be frustrated at how temperamental it is.

On my 3rd one in 30 days

Overall a great keypad but easily has internal errors. Have needed to replace two units within 30 days and am now on a third keypad. Both of the units that broke were because of internal hardware or software issues. I am in the desert where it doesn't rain and the units never are in direct sunlight. One day they were working, the next they were not. Being out of warranty on both, I was forced to buy a new one. Hopefully this one does not give out too.

Works

It works really well. However recently the batteries died and I haven't been able to pair it with the smart lock. Called support that said i need to replace it. Oh the s/n is under the adhesive so I needed that before they could support me. Not easy to get

Difficult to find replacement unit in Malaysia

Doesn’t ship to Malaysia. It’s difficuly to find replacement unit in Malaysia. My unit only lasts 3 years. It’s too plasticky and the rubber buttons made it a bit difficult to touch the inner panel. Have to press harder and several times everytime to unlock door.

Great to lock door as you leave. Pricey

Although I got this for 50% off, I still consider it pricey. It is especially useful for exiting, as you can lock the door with just the push of 1 button. It is also nice you can have different codes for different people.

Good Enough Although Not At the Price

The premium price is not shown in the software. The hardware looks and works well enough. The software, though (possibly due to hardware limitations) is so-so. The battery drain is higher than competitive products that I have used and the experience within the app needs refinement to mitigate/less the feeling around latency issues and responsiveness.

It works

Installation was easy. Using the key pad could be better. I requires forcefully pressing each key for it to work. I have a keypad from another smart lock that works much better and never fails to register a key press.

I have had this brand of keypad 1 year.

This is just ok. It is tempermental, the open feature to change batteries is delicate and I broke the first one on the first day. The tab is tiny and delicate. It is a ok system.

Life and build not great - but convenience trumps

This is my second one. The first one died after 3-4 years, which is shorter than what I expected, so I didn’t want to buy a new one. I resisted for a few weeks then opening app and/or waiting for the auto-unlock was bit annoying so I ended up buying a new one.

Doesn't Last

I have now had 2 keypads in 3.25 years. The pad is in 100% shade and protected from rain. Both died. Replacing the battery doesn't revive them, they will just eventually stop working at all. They are usually fault-free up until they suddenly just quit for good. I'm switching away from August brand at this point. The keypad hasn't been updated since before I bought the set and I shouldn't have to replace this simple, overpriced keypad so often.

Doesn't Connect to Lock

I was totally shocked how bad this product is and can't believe they can continue to sell it. Never works reliably in any manner. Always have to change batteries and then have to re-sync it again and again! Most frustrating point was that they would not offer a replacement because 1 year and 2 weeks old. Meaning 2 weeks past the one year warranty period!!! If you get this product get the extended warranty for it if they offer it.

has to be replaced about every two years

I love my august smart locks, but the keypads only last about two years before they have to be replaced. I have three august pro smart locks and love the convenience and safety of auto lock feature. I love the keypad entry option to give others access without a physical key. My only complaint is the keypads only last about two years. This is the second one I am replacing.. I contacted customer support after the other one quit working and I tried to reset it to factory settings. Their only advice was that they only last "so long" before the circuits wear out. Very disappointed with that.

Warranty ends - then it fails

I did get a bit of discount to buy another one but disappointed at early failure after two years. You kinda have to have this with the lock, but battery life is poor and app does not report its battery percentage remaining. When the low battery notice comes it is pretty much at an emergency stage. My use case is with Airbnb rentals, but I’m replacing these units with another smart lock brand due to reliability issues

The first one didn't last 6 months

I purchased several of these with the lock. This one was installed around Thanksgiving. It failed on me in February. August wouldn't warranty it because I had purchased it just over a year. Even though they could see it had never been used they still wouldn't warranty it. I'm surprised and wish this company would stand behind their products. I ended up having to but a replacement.
