Effective kitchen and bath caulk
I needed to recaulk my shower stall. The GE Advanced Silicone 2 caulk is much thinner than kitchen and bath caulks I've used before which actually made it easier to apply and clean off. Laying a small bead and spreading it with my finger left a perfectly caulked joint. In a few places where there was too little caulk, because of the consistency, I was able to carefully add more so long as it was still wet.
Turns yellow - DO NOT BUY
12 hours after application, it turned yellow. Also, where it smeared and I cleaned off during tooling is also now yellow. Total nightmare! Do not buy this. You will regret it. While searching for a solution, I found many many posts here and other message boards where this same thing happened. They should recall this product instead of ruining projects.
Fantastic Silicone Sealant
Between the GE Advanced and GE Supreme silicone sealants, I will always choose one of these two when I need a high quality and durable clear silicone sealant. The Advanced silicone sealant here works very well for most household needs and projects. It lasts for years when used properly, and I have never had a problem with it. By comparison to GE Supreme (which costs a bit more), the Advanced can do pretty much everything the Supreme can do. The main difference is that the Supreme has a lifetime mold-free product protection vs. 10yrs on the Advanced. And the Supreme is ASTM C-9320 Class 50 rated vs. Class 35 on the Advanced. Either way, you can't go wrong with the Advanced. Highly recommended
When the ants come in the kitchen, time to recaulk
I had ants coming into the kitchen after about 12 years in a new house and it was through a hole in the caulk, even though the kitchen was a whole story above ground. I scraped out the caulk, vacuum and wiped area with denatured alcohol, then I put tape on each edge of counter and windows. I applied the caulk in sections, but there were three small sections that when I pulled up the tape, the caulk came out of the crevice enough that I had to scrape and recaulk it. The overall length was about 30 feet with lots of angles and small sections around the windows. I let it dry for 24 hours before having any moisture near it. The one issue is that if you try to save the caulk by sealing the tip, I have had bad luck that when you try to use it again, the caulk blows out the back and then you’re cleaning the caulk gun with mineral spirits. Overall I’m very happy with it, though there is a slight blowout of the back even on first use sometimes.
Applies easily. Very Effective. Dries Quickly.
Worked like a charm! Superior quality is worth the price IF the job is not too large. Very easy to use, low to no odor, dries quicker than lesser products. If the entire bathroom needs recaulking then suggest the regular cardboard tube with caulking gun or try to find this version in larger sizes (was unsucessful finding anything larger).
I only have this frig/freezer 3 stars because after reading the reviews, I was determined not to buy the freezer until I looked it over. Most of the low ratings were because the freezer arrived with dents. The really great clerk in the dept. understood my request to unbox and inspect the freezer. After the 3rd box was opened, having found dented corners on all of them, I asked if any of the other four said to be in stock could be opened. At that point, another clerk came by and criticized the first clerk for allowing me to inspect before buying. It did in fact make a mess of things with cardboard and styrofoam all over the place. This prompted a manager to be called. She seemed to understand the situation and offered me 25% off one of the three that had the dent in the back upper corner. Since this freezer was to go in my basement, we took the “deal”. My neighbor generously took the time to help us transport with his pick up truck, which is another reason I wanted to inspect my purchase. I also asked if we could plug it in to even see if the motor started, which it did. After getting the freezer home, we plugged it in and waited for four hours to load as per the directions. I’m happy with the freezer because it did function properly and is so easy to organize compared to my dead chest freezer. So, in short, I like the freezer. Too bad the shipping, handling, is not at all good!
ONLY clear silicone that lasts
I've been using this brand of silicone for years. It's the most reliable silicone on the market. It's really water/rain ready in about 30 minutes. With constant exposure to elements ( clear silicone on the exterior awnings) and it doesn't get moldy or discolored. Great adhesion to brick, stucco, glass, polycarbonate, plastic, concrete, vinyl and fiber cement siding,.PVC and wood. Stays watertight in hot and humid conditions and same in winter during cold Chicago winters. Best to cleanup with denatured alcohol. Best applied with caulking tool or masking tape. I've been using it for everything outdoor and everything indoor including the kitchen and bathroom sinks, toilets and shower doors. Really worth the price. Doesn't stink as bad as some other brands.
Quick time set up
The caulk is effective but just a bit different. It applies a bit thinner than typical silicone. There is an expected bit of slump as it cures, which is typical. It is difficult to understand the difference from the similar product when reading the packaging except for the 30 min time for exposure versus a longer time with the other product. I reapplied a second coat on an area I missed and it adhered just fine. It may be a bit more workable due to the thinness.
I use 100% silicone whenever I am caulking around wet surfaces. The only issue I have with any of the brands is the strong odor. GE has a less pungent odor. It works so well and once you caulk, it will be there forever. It is waterproof and a great sealant for where surfaces meet, like corners. It isn't as easy to work with as regular, paintable caulk. It is sticky. I recommend wearing plastic gloves because this stuff is hard to get off your hands.
Really easy to use
Used around newly installed (1-1/2 yr) shower base where grout had been used as grout and had pulled away. I always use silicone vice acrylic around tub rims, sink joints, shower floors, etc. where flexibility is required due to movement.
Terrible caulk. Turns neon yellow
Used to seal fiberglass tub and surround. Within a couple days turned neon yellow. Seams thoroughly cleaned and dry prior to application. No product or water has touched the silicone since application. Since have found many threads online specifically saying ge silicone turns yellow for no reason. Now a huge mess to remove silicone and apply a brand of silicone that’s not ge.
I wish I could give it zero stars, complete trash
This stuff turned BRIGHT YELLOW overnight after installing around my sink and shower. It also appears to have stained some of the white tile. I have done tons of caulk in kitchens and bathrooms over the years and haven’t seen this before. I have to scrape all of it out and redo it now, so hours of lost time. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. Look online and you will see that others have had the same problem! I used gorilla white silicone in a small area near the sink in the same bathroom with no instant yellowing, so maybe go with that.
This is the worst silicone product I ever bought. I bought 2 tubes to seal my new shower sliders and frame. 1st tube went on well. Smooth. Dried in a few hours. Second tube was watery and loose. Did not dry in 2 days. I scraped it out, brought back this tube and they replaced it with a new tube. I put on the new silicon from the third tube and it’s been 48 hours and still wet this product stinks I would not recommend it to anyone takes hours to scrape it out
Product didn't cure
I put this between the sink and countertop. While cleaning up after applying it, it appeared to be getting thicker - skinning over - curing properly. But when I came back 24 hours later it was liquid again - that is it was even thinner than when it came out of the tube. Not sure what's going on, but this stuff has to go. Other comments talk about the expiration date being an issue - my tube was pretty new from home depot. Buy a different brand - avoid this one.
White is semitransparent
While I love the way it applies white is not opaque white. I would use on a new area depending on if you need opaque.. Sadly an older caulk redo would show through. I would say skim milk is the color. If you have stark white this is will not cover and match. Glossy semi transparent white. Disappointed but not willing to remove the caulk and redo since the color is wrong.
It's silicone caulk. It is a pretty basic item.
It is a basic item. Cut the tip of the tube, apply, replace cap. That's it. However, here goes...
Never dried , sticky to touch 4 days later
Used silicone for over 20 yrs, this is terrible. I don’t understand the 4.5 ratings. Makes you wonder why? I set this is a shower. 4 days and not dry yet. Reading other people’s reviews I seen the same issue. It remains wet looking , wet to touch , doesn’t look like normal pure silicone. Wasted much time removing it several times thinking it was my mistake.
This GE Advanced Silicone is well worth it
I was hesitant to buy this brand because it was so low in price. I ignorantly assumed the more expensive stuff would equate to better results. However, I went and applied a first seal of GE Advanced Silicone to the pipes underneath my kitchen sink. The leaks were in 3 separate places and caused by my ignorance, when I decide to pour industrial strength drain unclogging solution down my sink. Don't do that! Buy a plunger and alternate between pouring hot water into the sink and plunging, until the clog is released. I applied a second coat to the pipes a few hours later. The tube states the silicon dries in 30 mins but I noticed it took at least 2 hours to settle. The second coat is absolutely necessary because the first coat still had slight leaks coming through. It's been a week since I applied the silicone sealant. There are zero leaks and the silicone is still doing a great job at keeping the leaks contained. If the silicone fails in the future then I will add an updated review. Most silicone tends to wear off after so long. I have to replace the silicone in my fish aquarium after so many year's because over time the sealant lifts off the surface. Anyway, this GE brand is well worth it and the price is unbeatable.
tube of bath caulk was crushed at aome point on its way to me. it was hardened and it unusable. it was in a large envelope
tube was crushed at aome point on its way to me. it hhas hardened and it unusable. it was in a large envelope with little/no protection. I ordered online because our local store is oainful to go to since they shut down the self checkout due to excessive theft. I understand this but is was dine without properly staffing the registers. They have also taken all the contractor parking spaces with rental gear, fence sections and leave little room for actual customers. Home Depot in East Liberty is going down the toilet
[Rewarded Review] Easy to use and dries clear
I'm new to DYI projects, and recently installed a new facet in our den bathroom. For some reason, there was a slighty gap, causing water to seep from thr bottom of thr cold water side. Naturally, I went to YouTube to see what my options were. GE Clear silicone did the trick. It's reasonably priced and easy to use. I did have to purchase a caulk gun. I followed the instructions, which stated it would be water ready in 30 mins. Because this was my 1st time, I decided to wait a few hrs. Low and behold, we are up and running, no water seepage, and no evidence that caulk was used. We didn't use very much, but didn't want the rest to go to waste. I easily wrapped plastic wrap on the tip and taped it down. Seems like we can use it whenever we need too. No waste at all.
