Great size for my yard and quality materials
I needed a gazebo no taller than 8 feet or so, since I wanted to keep my tress without much trimming. This gazebo fits our space perfectly. I know it's called the 'XL Grill Gazebo', but for us it's the pool tools and shade gazebo. The power box and shelves are perfect for pool items and other backyard tools. The shade space is great. I would have loved a bigger one, but don't have the space in the area I had designated.
Make sure stain the wood before assembly
I wanted to wait until I had this Gazebo for all seasons before writing a review. In the wintertime I noticed mold growing on most of the wood. I called the customer service for the product, they stated to clean it and then stain it. I had to wait until the summertime clean the mold off while doing so it faded the metal parts. I had to take apart most of the structure to stain and spray paint. Wish the instructions stated to Stain before assembly, but over then that the Gazebo is great.
Awesome Gazebo
The gazebo was very well packaged. Everything was there, no missing parts. They even provide screw tips for you. Took me, by myself about 8 hours start to finish on two separate days. Assembling the roof frame, then adding the roof tiles was the way to go. Very heavy. Very well made product. Instructions easy. The bilt app was a huge help. Really great gazebo. Looking forward to grilling underneath it soon. Just need to add some thompsons water seal.
Well made and easy construction
I had a missing part (joist D1), but Backyard Design was very accommodating and helpful delivering the part. The instructions are good, but the app is a bit better. I did this assembly by myself with the only help having another person hold the side posts. I was limited in space and to construct the roof frame and then fasten the sheet metal roofs like it’s done constructing a house. I did add corner flashing to the joist on the back and sides for added moisture protection. I will also use a sealer on the wood. I reside in the southwest and the UV light is damaging to untreated wood.
Backyard Gazebo
Bought this gazebo because of the size and shape for my back porch. It gets lots of sun and was too hot to sit out there, as well to have rain coverage. We flipped it where the high end is next the house so it drains way from the house. Took three of us to put together in about 5 hours and three of us to put the roof on. Best way is to put a ladder in the center and push it up, we had three people to push it. You will have to treat it with stain, but over all high quality, instructions are easy to follow. Looking forward to hanging out now in the backyard. The dogs are too!
Perfect gazebo for an amazing price!
I finally got this installed by professional installers & wow. It’s such a master piece & brings such elegance to our front porch. We were quoted over 10k for this exact build & I just didn’t feel like it was worth it. I saw the smaller model at Sam’s & fell in love with it! I opted to by directly from the backyard discovery website which was a success. I did not go through the recommended 3rd party because of all of the negative reviews they had & instead decided to go onto thumbtack app to find a local company to do it. It was installed by a man & woman & they were completed in less than 3 hours!!! It was a bit pricey but honestly in this heat I was not about to make my significant other go through the struggle. I wish I had more space to buy a bigger one! I will definitely continue to buy products from backyard discovery, the quality doesn’t lack even though it’s prefabricated. A contractor could never!
Very nice grill gazebo
I was going to build my own DIY grill gazebo using plans I found online. I'm comfortable with woodworking so usually do my own thing. Then I came across the Saxony XL Gazebo. After pricing out the wood and hardware needed to build my own I realized that I would spend as much or more than buying this kit. I read the many positive reviews and decided give it a try. I'm glad I did. Shipping was pretty fast and straightforward. It came in two heavy boxes (200lbs each) and was delivered by a freight company. The freight company will only drop the boxes at your place so be ready to move them yourself. Once opened I sorted everything out. All parts were marked clearly. I highly recommend a separate table for sorting the hardware. There is a TON of hardware. Keep yourself organized or you'll be in trouble quickly. They provided a few extra of each hardware items which was a nice touch. Be sure to remove ALL the plastic coating comes on the roof panels and other stuff. That takes a while and is a bit tedious. Assembly was fairly easy. I mostly followed the printed directions but occasionally I needed to refer to the electronic instructions to get a better view of what I was putting together. The electronic instructions have a really useful 3-D view that you can rotate and zoom in on as needed. Very helpful. It took my wife and I approx. 5 hours to mostly complete it. But we took our time. The next day we put the roof on. The roof is built on the ground and lifted up into place. You will need at least 3 people to do this. 4 would be better. We had a neighbor help us lift it up. We only needed him for 10 minutes. Once up it can be finished by one person. Quality seems very good. The hardware in particular is heavy duty. They had several nice little touches including the many hanger hooks and the power center. We installed ours gazebo on a wood deck and anchored the legs accordingly. Speaking of the legs...they are hollow not solid. I knew this going in but some might not realized it. Overall it's a solid unit at a fair price in my opinion.
what a nice grill gazebo!
I purchased this grill gazebo to put on an 8‘ x 8‘ concrete pad. After three years of replacing metal gazebos that just bent in the wind or rusted through the year it was time to make the bigger investment in a nice cedar gazebo. The construction recommends two adults, I took an entire day and did it by myself. I am 6 foot 2, 220 pounds and most of the construction was able to be completed safely with just myself. To place the roof on the top of the structure, You definitely need another adult of equal height and a ladder. For most of the process, you can get it done with just one person, but lifting the roof onto the top of the structure does require a second grown adult. I love the way it looks. I would purchase it all over again and recommend it to all my friends. It’s a wonderful addition to our yard!
