I love the jug, the only issue I had was that it smoked and blackened a bit from the bottom during the curing process. I sent an email inquiring if this was normal but never got a response. I figured out what was wrong, there was a plastic sticker placed at the bottom of the jug that was burning off. I would have never thought to look for a sticker on something that was meant to go directing onto heat. Other than that the jug is great.

Just like I remember...

Coming from Mexico, my family would always try to incorporate any and every tradition possible in the States. One of them was making hot chocolate and champurrado (a thicker hot chocolate), so that's always been a great memory to have growing up. When I saw this product, I knew I had to get it. Immediately, I set about using it, and the material is incredible. So easy to clean, prepare for first use, and use. I love that it's sturdy enough to heat hot chocolate right on the burners and it gives a delicious added taste to the drink. I got it alongside the molinillo and verve chocolate discs but it also is perfect for making a classic Abuelita's hot chocolate. I'm not hooked on Verve products and am looking at their Moroccan collection next!

Great little Valentine's ritual for two

I gave this four stars b/c I followed the instructions, but was never sure if I mixed it right. It takes a while for the chocolate (hockey pucks) to melt, and then I used the wooden whisk, but I never got a good froth. Anyway, it tasted wonderful and I do think the clay jug adds to the flavor. If you have a new jug, allow time to cure it first with hot water. Also, I think you should offer a spicier version too. Really great hot chocolate!

The red clay jug is stunning, but beware you are not purchasing a set. The chocolate and whisk are sold separately! Be sure to read the product Q and A for more details! It is not mentioned in the product details or shown in the images. Wonderful idea, but would be better to have an option at a higher price that includes everything as a true set.

I love my hot chocolate jug! I am sure it will be a unique gift that my daughter does not already have and she will love it. And Neiman Marcus was wonderful to work with.

Water pitcher

I know that this is supposed to be used for hot chocolate, but I have been using mine as a water pitcher on my dining table. The imperfections make it perfect.

Works well, oddly tacky feel

This pitcher is very practical for making Mexican hot chocolate. I put it directly on a flame (raising the heat gradually, of course), and it melts the chocolate and heats the milk quickly. It's shaped well for vigorous frothing and easy pouring. One weirdness with it is a strangely tacky exterior. It arrived that way and has remained that way through repeated use and washing.
