This handle was used to replace one just like it that I installed approx. 12 yrs. Ago. The previous handle had become worn and the latch would no longer pull into the door far enough to clear the striker plate.

Door Handle and Deadbolt Lock

This is a very attractive Set of Door Hardware. I do not know the names of all the parts but have installed a few door's hardware in my time. These instructions do not makes any sense. The items shown on the instruction sheet have letter and do not match any of the numbers on the packages containing screws, latch key, lock key, etc., etc. Nothing matches!! The, I think it is called "strike plate" for the "deadbolt" to enter when the lock is closed is huge!! I requires two sets of screws. One set is about 3 inches long and the second set looks less than an inch long. The plate is larger than a normal dead bolt lock plate, and larger than the area recessed in the door. Even if I chisle out an area to accomodate the plate at the top, the bottom screw has nothing there for the screw. I need to get wood filler and fill in the bottom of the hole so that the bottom screw has something in which to be screwed. I found a normal plate that can work but have to raise it to accommodate the dead bolt. That leaves the same problem...no wood for the bottom screw. I still have the dead bolt installed. Then there is that beautiful, elegant handle. It is for a right-hand door and not a left-hand door. There are no definite instructions on how to go from right-hand to left-hand that you or I definitely would recognize as "Switching from right hand to left hand door opening". There are instructions but you would not recognize it as instructions. Finally, I gave up and took the handle and instruction sheet to Foley Lowes. Monsiuer Michel in Locks Dept recognized it immediately and did the switch needed from right-hand to a left-hand opening handle!! He said it took him over 20 minutes one time without instruction sheet to figure out how to switch it over. The instruction sheet was probably drawn up by someone in one country and the parts bagged and labeled in another country. What a mess!! Not sure if I should return this item because the dead bolt does not fit. That is the only locking feature. The handle is just decoration. maybe I could put a normal dead bolt on it and keep the handle but $139 is a lot for just a nickel handle. What do you think? Return it and get something that fits.
