I build these kits a little different. I drill the hold larger and put a 3/8 16 tpi insert in the handle. I still epoxy the ring on, but the scoop is removable for cleanup

Ice Cream Scoop Turning Kit Hawk Point
I needed a new scoop so I ordered this stainless steel scoop. It's very well designed and makes scooping even hard ice cream easy. I don't do wood turning so I carved the handle. I wish I could include a photo of it. I'm pleased with the results and will probably make another one.
