Horrible thermostat….beyond frustrating.
This thing is beyond frustrating. Makes no sense at all. The HOLD. SET. Trying desperately to get it set a decent temperature and all I do is COOK. I can’t get it to regulate . A thermostat shouldn’t be this difficult. OH ….but it is. I’ve tried everything to get a comfortable temperature….its now HOLDING at 77. Why? Tried to change it but won’t. HORRIBLE. Do NOT buy.
Frustrating
Installed this last night. Was pretty pleased with myself as I am not handy. A little confusing as the screws are TINY. (why are things constantly getting smaller and less easy to use?) But that's not the worst of it. I programmed the thing as per usual. Set the thermostat to 68 degrees. But today it ran heat ALL DAY without ceasing, even though it was nearly 70 degrees outside. Tonight, temp in the thermostat is reading 77 degrees ambient temp and heat CONTINUES to come on. Switched it to off and furnace STILL comes on. What the??? What a waste of oil today! I guess I need a better model. Wish I had read the reviews here first.
Inexpensive replacement for ancient thermostat
Easy to install, inexpensive, easy to program and comes with a program already installed that can be used that saves energy. I opted to use the program already installed. Lights up so you can see the screen easily.
Basically Worthless
this thermostat has been a disaster, we can never get the temperature correct, we set it to a temperature 30 minutes later it hasn't changed, works one day doesn't the next. The only thing that works 100% of the time is the on/off switch. Hold button, Run button do nothing.
How is this not discontinued?
Here I am at 5:00 writing this review (when I shouldn’t be awake) because of how terrible the programming on this thing sucks. My sleep time is set for 10:00pm @55 degrees, my wake up time is set for 8:00 am @74 degrees. Why is it that at 4:30-5:00 (3-4 hrs before set wakeup time) the heat is at 74 degrees. Mind you this ain’t the first time this has happened, I tried resetting, I’ve tried setting new times/temperature but it still doesn’t seem to help. Moral of the story is if you want to be able to stick to your regular sleep schedule or even try to relax and be comfortable in your own home then don’t buy this piece of junk!!!!!
[Rewarded Review] Adequate, old school thermostat
This is a functional unit and runs to temperature accurately. Programming is a bit tedious but once it's done, it's done. The switches have a cheap, floppy feel and do not inspire confidence. Nice thing about this is that it does not require a "c"wire and uses batteries. Very easy to wire!
DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND
It says "Honeywell" on it, but these are sold and serviced by a 3rd party company called Resideo. When the unit fails under warranty, and it likely will, they require YOU to do troubleshooting including having a volt or multi-meter to do this. They will make it as painful as possible JUST to get a replacement unit under warranty. I started having trouble with the unit shutting off months before the 1 year warranty expired. The guy there that I spoke with on the phone couldn't figure out what was wrong with the unit so he suggested I take it back to Lowe's to get a replacement. I fiddled around with the unit some more and managed to get it to turn back on. Two months later I come home on a 97 degree day to find my AC isn't running and the temperature inside my house was nearly 90 degrees. The display was blank, nothing. Nothing would turn on, heat or AC. I took the thermostat to Lowe's where I bought it. They said they can't return or replace it because it was past 90 days since purchase even though the warranty is 1 year. Livid, I bought a new one just so I could easily plug it into the same mounting plate and get my home cooled down. That unit must have been a return because it wouldn't work at first. I found that a pin was bent over at a 90 degree angle. I straightened the pin, reinstalled the thermostat and my AC turned on instantly. I contacted Resideo support to get a warranty replacement or refund. They can't do a refund which I understand, but before I could get a replacement, they wanted me to go through a bunch of troubleshooting steps that I had ALREADY DONE! Check the batteries, check the contact pins, etc, etc. Then he asked me to get a volt meter to check voltages. I don't have a volt meter as I would guess most people don't. Then he asks if I can borrow one somewhere or buy one! I was stunned at the audacity! OMG! I told the guy I'm sorry you have to take this call but I am NEVER buying another one of your products again! This is beyond ridiculous, the poorest level of support I have experienced in a long time. I would not buy another Honeywell thermostat if my life depended on it. Now I'm out another $50 on this junk. I am so angry right now, I can barely contain myself.
beware of the product description @ Lowes
Replaced older Honeywell with this new one based on description on Lowes website that it was compatible. Old one was working okay but decided to upgrade. Installed through Lowes installation service but installer claimed the "Red" wire had no current and I would have to change the 2 back up batteries often. Installer also claimed the Breaker was bad, but the funny thing was that the RED wire was also connected to the previous Thermostat, the system always worked fine and batteries were only changed when the thermostat noted batteries needed changing. Now I'm not sure if I need to go to the expense of changing the breaker or hiring an electrician to charge me an arm an leg to research and fix if a fix is really needed. Previous Thermostat was wired basically the same as the new one and everything worked fine.
Works OK But Annoying Settings Menu
OK for the price but not very easy to program if you only need two settings a day. It's fine if you need four settings a day (wakeup, leave, return, sleep). If you're home all day, two settings a day are all you need. And in a small office setting where you don't need HVAC seven days a week (my situation), it's annoying to get it to not run at all. Also, the settings menu forces you to always start on day one, very annoying if you just need to change a day that's several away from that. You're forced to go through all four settings for the days preceding the one you want to change. Finally, if you want to leave early and have it go to sleep, you have to manually drop the set temperature down and then hold that until it hits the sleep time.
Awesome thermostat
I just replaced my parent’s house old thermostat this one is the best you can buy. They had a old nonprogrammable thermostat which cause the air conditioning to stay on all the time and that’s not good for the air condition unit. This one just set the day and time and it’s ready to go. Don’t need to adjust by hand. And it turns on the ac by the time you get home the house is already cooled down. Great product. This also protects your ac compressor too and a filter time changer do yourself a favor buy this thermostat
Second time wasn't a charm
Bought my house and this was just installed in the house, per the previous owner. Had to replace this 2 years in as it would keep shutting off the furnace a few minutes in and never get up to the heat I had programmed it to (yes, I changed the batteries). I replaced it with the same thing, so I didn't have to rewire anything and It was in the dead of winter and we were cold. This has lasted about a year and it's doing the same thing after replacing the batteries twice. Furnace on for 2 minutes, then off. I turn off the heat, with the switch on the bottom, and then switch it back on to heat and then the furnace kicks in again to only stay on another 2 minutes. I'm going with a different product next time.

I bought six of these t’stats to control the baseboard hot water heat zones in our church, which is similar to a big residence. SUMMARY: The t’stats work great and we’re pleased with them, but getting to that point was a huge hassle. DETAILS: This model supports different temperature setpoints in 4 time periods each day for 7 days a week. It includes a feature called “early start” that anticipates the heat setting for the next time period; this feature is “on” by default. While this feature might work well if you have a mainstream dual-income household that turns the heat down during daytimes and up in mornings and evenings, it behaves very strangely for other situations. For our church, the t’stats completely skipped one period by anticipating the subsequent period by 15 hours and, at the same time, anticipated the setpoint for another time period not at all. In both these cases, the setpoint temperature was **below** the setpoint in the preceding period, so that implementing an “early start” on heating made no sense at all. In 3 separate calls, Honeywell Customer Service was unable to explain why this happened or how the “early start” logic works. So my advice is: By all means, get this thermostat but disable the early start logic, which appears to be goofy in the extreme and is incomprehensible to Honeywell Customer Service.
