Thermostats can be a pain, but this one skips right past painful and lands squarely in ‘absolutely useless.’ The backlight? Completely nonfunctional. The suggested fixes? Check the batteries, check the wiring, check the breaker…and if that doesn’t work, go ahead and check the batteries again. A quick online search brings up endless videos and help sites all unified around one solution: change the batteries, and it’ll be fine. Spoiler: it’s not fine.

DIY Inexpensive Home Repairs

YouTube helped me to Troubleshoot Home AC Split Unit on a Single Family Home. Walmart had the Budget Friendly identical Honeywell Thermostat. Replacing was easy, secured all connections. Completed the successful installation by the Grace of God. Yet, had a New Challenge. YouTube advised replace Outside Condensation Capacitor. Walmart choices were too expensive. Ebay, I got three for the same price Walmart. Easy follow up to replace the Capacitor. AC was running back normal. YES! POWER WAS SHUT OFF AS SAFETY. Also did TLC by Cleaning the Unit. Thank God, as a DIY Project saved me $600

Not lighted. Can't read display.

It works fine and I like the set one day program but didn't realize it did not have any back lighting. Had to return since we couldn't read it in a lighted hall without a flashlight. I'm pretty sure this one was a return since the tape and packaging was previously opened before I got it. Prob the same reason. You can't read it.

doesnt work as described

set on 76 in my house at 5 am but its showibg 82. no wonder I woke up sweating. Cant get it to come on even turning down to 60 degrees. less than 2 months in use. also temporary temp doesnt go back to normal settings at set times. just stays on the temporary setting indefinitely. NOT what the manual says.

Honeywell Programmable with backlight

The temp coincides with our weather station temp. The only down side is the buttons are a pain in the rump. They take awhile to engage but once they do, they go at rocket speed. The light only comes on when you push the button. Thought it would have an on/off. Overall, it’s a good thermostat. We may grow to love it as it is!

Not a 1 Week Programmable as advertised

I expected to be able to program it for different scenarios each day of the week, but found that it can only be programmed for various scenarios within one day. It clearly says on the box "Same program for every day." Model RTH2300 is what I should have gotten. I'll need to return this Model RTH221B.

Untouchable

I wish I had actually received this thermostat and was able to say how great it is in a review but I can’t. This product was left on my step despite asking to be notified of delivery with a knock on the door. Apparently it was stole and I was told by Walmart that since they had a picture of it on the steps of my address there was nothing they could do. I thought it was called delivery and not drop off! SMH!!

I was looking for a replacement thermostat with no frills, just a basic set it and forget it thermostat with a large enough display so I don't have to stand on top of it with pair of readers or a magnifying glass to see it, without breaking the bank. This one was only thirty dollars which is fine, it does have programmability which is not a selleng factor for me. The larger display is more a selling factor for me. I couldn't stand there and try to display all the programming information on that tiny display if I wanted to. For this reason I give it a three out of five. That being said it came with intuitive instructions and little stickers for labeling each wire removed from old thermostat to easily match up to the new one. A novice could do it. This actually saves (local to me) three hundred dollar installation fee!

The thermostat is fine. I bought two, but I chose to pay for installation through Home Depot. They wouldn't say the price until they came to my home, and it turned out to be $421. That is a crazy price for 20 minutes of work in switching two old thermostats for two new ones. Do NOT get your installation done through the store.

Had an HVAC guy tell me my thermostat was bad so I bought this inexpensive thermostat to test. Turns out the thermostat was not bad, but this was a good purchase for testing and it worked as it should after an easy installation. I know the item is inexpensive but a backlight would be good, seems like it should be standard. Otherwise I would have given it a higher rating.

How high will your electric bill be?

I've had this product, purchased from Walmart, for a few years now. It has been a huge pain in the rear from the start. It's hard to program because of the twitchy program button, but I thought, no big deal, I only have to do that once. But it also doesn't always work. On average, about 4 or 5 times every summer, it decides its not going to allow the a/c to shut off. We realize it's doing this again when everyone in the house starts complaining about how cold it is, and would rather be outside in the 100 degree Southern heat. Before tonight, the last time it happened, it was about 110 degree heat index in the middle of the day and we were at 64* inside before I finally got it to shut off. Today we only got down to 66 by the time I got it to shut down. Besides the higher electricity bill, it's infuriating to deal with this so often. So, today was the last straw. For the first time in over 30 years, I will be purchasing a different brand than Honeywell. And I'll be buying an old fashioned mechanical/manual thermostat so I don't have to worry about whether or not it will work, and if my electric bill will be manageable.

Simple but good thermostat

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. This was a nice thermostat and perfect for my needs. The instructions were easy to follow and installation was simple. It is programmable to set the same temperatures for one week. If you are needing different temperatures for each day, this product would not work well for you. A downside to this thermostat is that there is no backlight on the display, so if you are needing to change the temperature without a light on in the night or dark area, it would be impossible to read the display without a flashlight. Otherwise, this thermostat works well for me.

A simple home thermostat option

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. The Honeywell Home Programmable Thermostat is a cheap and easy way to control the temperature in your home. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, so if you need something where you can just digitally set the temperature. This unit only works with forced hot air and not with baseboard heat, so beware of that before you buy. I would recommend if you are looking for something simple and don't need or want advanced features or any Smart Home technology.

DON'T BUY FROM HONEYWELL!!

The thermostat did not work when installed. Spent 20 minutes trying to find a phone number for tech support. There was NO number listed anywhere on the instruction sheet for the thermostat nor on their internet support. The phone number on the inside back of the thermostat was unreadable. Finally Googled for the number. Tech was unable to help. Also, this thermostat does NOT have backlighting and is very difficult to see the unlighted numbers. Had to use a flashlight to program it--AFTER having to get a technician out to the house to get the thermostat to integrate with my system ($235.00).
