[Rewarded Review] Fantastic time saver!! Makes great fresh pasta!!
Great SUPER time saver for homemade, healthy ingredients of 6 different kinds of fresh pasta. I make my own 3 ingredient semolina dough in my bread machine .Let it rest, roll what I’m going to use into long 3/8” thick 15” long tubes to wind up and directly feed into the Kitchen Aid Gourmet Pasta Maker. I can make 2 servings or 8 servings. I roll what I’m not going to use, divide into portioned balls wrapped in plastic into a freezer container to store until I’m going to make fresh pasta again. Thank you Kitchenaid for making such a wonderful accessory for my 2003 6qt bowl lift mixer with 525 watts of power to handle this job. A must have for any kitchen!! Just wish you would teach customers the time saving “snake” method of feeding the dough into the Gourmet Pasta accessory🥰
[Rewarded Review] Easy to assemble, annoyance to clean
The attachment is fairly straightforward to assemble and use but I found difficulty using the fusilli plate and that it didn't quite twist the dough nicely. However, the rigatoni plate worked much better with my particular gluten free recipe.
It works great if you've got your pasta dough righ
This is a game changer for making homemade pasta. I make my pasta using fresh milled flour and I really wanted to be able to make macaroni noodles. I did have a bit of trial and error with this but once I got my pasta dough to the right consistency it works great. If you are struggling getting your pasta to come out right with this then I would bet its your recipe. You need your dough to be pretty dry for this to work properly.
[Rewarded Review] Get the mix right!
I bought this over a month ago and have used it twice. The first time I made the pasta mix too wet and had some very misshapened fusilli - still edible. The second time the mix was much better with the macaroni coming out beautifully. My only gripe is the cleaning process of the shape plates. It’s all manual and water cannot be used. The tool provided doesn’t always get to the places to remove the dough so a pin is the best method in so areas. Otherwise would recommend - can’t wait to test out the other shapes!
Great attachment, low quality materials
I have quite a few different attachments for my mixer, never had an issue, till this one.
Delightfully fun
After three decades of my stand mixer, this is the first extension I've added. It was meant as a whim, yet it was utterly delightful. It is easy to use and clean. The designers are commendable and the video instructions are completely well conceived: we had no questions on our first attempt at extruding. I got it to use different flours. The packing box is also well designed, but is large and bulky for convenient kitchen storage. I haven't come up with a solution for a smaller footprint to store it near the hand crank pasta cutter.
Difficult to clean
Very difficult to clean the disks after use. The cleaning tool isn't small enough to get into the tiny spaces for the bucatini and fusilli discs, so I used a pin to finish cleanup which was time consuming. Per instructions I waited for the dough to dry completely before cleaning. Also, seemed difficult for my motor to handle the pressure, so I hope I'm not burning out my motor by using this accessory. My other accessories work great (sheet, fettuccine and spaghetti.)
Terribly Slow And Difficult to Clean
I own a Philips pasta maker, but wanted to get the Kitchen Aid version as it had a few other pasta varieties. Made several atrempts with dry to wet pasta, and while it did make pasta, at speed 10, it was painfully slow. We are talking a couple inches per minute max. Loading dough was tedious as you can only put small portions in, and cleanup was a nightmare. The dies do not come apart and the tool to clean them is basically a metal pick. I took the remaining dough and ran it in my Philips after to not waste it. Took all of 8 minutes to have a finished batch of pasta that doesnt need to be babysat. Returned this pile of junk.
(Rewarded Review) Faulty Disc
We have only made pasta once so far with our new press. Sadly several of the internal teeth or grooves of the rigatoni disc we chose for our first batch of pasta broke off and extruded into the first rigatonis. We didn’t think any were safe to eat with the plastic inside. Then all of the rest of the rigatonis had empty strips where the grooves broke. We must contact Kitchenaid for a replacement disc or set of discs. We hope this doesn’t happen with all of the discs or replacement disc(s).
Very disappointed that kitchenaid was not too conc
I loved this at first as my kitchen is pretty much all kitchenaid until last weeken when I was bucatini and the pin holding the attachment in place broke off. The attachment was going round and round as I tried to turn it off and it flew off into my chest. I thank God my little grandson had just left the kitchen. Definitely a safety hazard. Very disappointed in kitchenaid who offered a mere 20% off a new one
We gat a great date night!
We’ve had this for two weeks and have already used it twice! The four star rating is because it definitely takes some trial and error. Both times we have used it, it took us multiple attempts before we could extrude the pasta, but once it started working, we were in business. We have made both rigatoni and fusilli. While the press requires a drier dough, if it’s too dry, it gets too hard and will not push through the press. I added an extra teaspoon of water than the provided recipe called for and did not let the dough set for 20 minutes, and that worked the best for us. We have loved making fresh pasta and cannot wait to try the other pastas that come with this press!
I love it and kitchenaid support rocks
I used it twice so far and I absolutely loved the Rigatoni which I made first. we had the best baked Rigatoni meal ever! the second was spaghetti. I used a low hydration semolina recipe which was had hard on the spaghetti plate and cracked it. I reached out to support with an email and a replacement plate arrived in exactly one week! while I hope not to need support again, it is great to know they rock. if you plan to make spaghetti using this device plan on avoiding low hydration doughs. Consider a pasta cutter for spaghetti , you'll have better luck with that. For the rigatoni, it was a dream come true, with a low hydration dough too. the holes are much more forgiving for thick pastas, thin noodles need more water. I am looking forward to trying the other 4 plates. all in all I've been very happy with my pasta making journey that is enhanced by kitchenaid.
(Rewarded Review) Great product! Lacks storage container for discs
This attachment is great except for the fact that they advertise as convenient storage included but neglected to mention that it’s the box and styrofoam it comes in and not the plastic piece that holds all the discs on top like previously seen. I was so disappointed. When I phoned customer service they were rude and told me the box and styrofoam insert is the storage case and things change. I don’t have the space to store a big box on my shelf. The food processor comes with a convenient storage container that is amazing. So why wouldn’t the meat grinder with sausage stuffed and pasta press come with something similar?
The worst extruder on the market
I run an extruder pasta group and teach how to make extruded pasta. This is without a doubt the most poorly designed product KitchenAid has produced. You have to hand feed it, it’s slow, it doesn’t mix the pasta, and the design limits your shapes of many after market dies because you cannot cut the pasta fast enough, things like orzo and similar shapes. Almost everyone in my group, myself included got rid of this and bought the Philips Avance ( now the 7000) a fabulous machine that produces amazing extruded pasta once you learn the proper method, which by the way is not found in their manual. My group has taught thousands to successfully make extruded pasta. The first thing we say is get rid of the KitchenAid extruder.
Broken Plates
Used the recipe in the booklet it came with. Out of the 3 times of using the pasta maker as per the direction in the booklet, 2 of my plates broke. It gets too hot for the pasta to actually start coming out. Took this problem to kitchen aid, and they told me they could not replace my plates and told me to take it to the vendor I purchased it from.. still waiting on the resolution.
Love It!
Great gizmo to make pasta. Super fun to add all these shapes to our pasta-making repertoire It worked perfectly the first time we used it. You need to follow the instructions for the type of dough to use - it is drier than you might use for other purposes. If your dough is too wet you will have a mushy mess. It is the fault of the dough, not the extruder.
Perfect pasta!
I got this as a gift from my kids. I immediately used it with my own buckwheat pasta dough. I've had and hated other pasta extruders, but this one is fabulous. It's slow but steady, worked without overheating for about 40 minutes on very hard dough ( the machine won't tolerate soft or damp pasta dough) Easy to figure out, beautiful results. It isn't perfect - the fusilli needs twisting, spaghetti takes less time on an Atlas crank roller attachment. Cleaning is difficult. Still - bucatini! macaroni! fusilli! I'm in pasta heaven.
Need the ability to buy purchase additional dies.
Will you be adding new discs to this? I would love to see new dies for my pasta extruder. I love the the Extruder attachment but sad to see that other Brands ( Phillips 7000 series) continue to add new exciting pasta shapes that can be purchased separately. I would love to have a lasagna, Pappardelle, Tagliatelle & Penne to start. We have just about ever attachment to fit my 2 KitchenAid stand mixers, I love them all, but would need to replace with a different brand so that I can get all of the other dies to use for the pasta maker. Please consider adding new dies to the collection that comes with the attachment now. Thank you.
Poor product
I have only used the pasta attachement twice. The first time I tried to make Ramen noodles with the spagetti disc which was a disaster. The next time I tried to make fusilli. another disaster as it snapped off my cover and like others said it spun out of control. Also it burns out the motor. I have the Professional 550 plus Stand Mixer and I purchased this attachment after my manual pasta maker was lost in a recent move. I am dissapointed that I wasted good money on this product. It takes hours to make 2 - 4 servings of pasta due to the overheating of the motor and the dough getting stuck. Maybe I just ended up with a lemon as I am very happy with all of my other KA appliances.
Scary, dangerous, and probably hard on mixer!!
I've had this attachment for a long time, but only used twice. The first time, the dough had a lot of trouble going through and motor got really hot, so I stopped and didn't try again for years (out of concern). The second time, which was tonight, tried with my mom's Kitchenaid Professional model, used the basic egg pasta recipe in the booklet, was going well until almost end of dough. It jammed, so we shut off the mixer immediately. We moved the dough around a bit, then tried again. Dough started to go, then the attachment broke and started spinning! Terrified and bewildered, we shut it off, only for the attachment to fly to the floor. We discovered the METAL pin on the the attachment (the thing that lines it up to the attachment area) had broken off! The mixer and the attachment were very hot. The attachment broke completely. We are lucky no one was hurt. There is NOTHING in the manual that warns of the hot motor, hot attachment, and certainly not the potential for the pin to break. It only warns that death could happen if one doesn't follow instructions exactly. Well, we followed them to the letter and this still happened! There is also NO troubleshooting for jamming, etc. I'm beyond horrified, disappointed, and angry that Kitchenaid would sell such a dangerous item. DO NOT BUY!!!
