Items were as specified on the Home Depot website. Made in India with high quality material and excellent powder coat paint. Mounting bracket dimensions and bolt hole locations & size matched the mailboxes. They've been installed for about a month and it's all good. I recommend this mailbox and mounting bracket.

Should be strong and durable.

This "heavy-duty" mailbox is quite expensive as mailboxes go, but where I live, you don't buy "cheap" mailboxes that won't stand up to the attacks of those who like to play "drive-by mailbox baseball."

Quality Control Issues

This was a nice looking mailbox, however, I had to return it because it was scratched. I tried again and bought one off the store shelf (same mailbox) and that one was also scratched... down to the bare metal near the rivets on one side. I doubt this was due to shipping as the boxes were not damaged where the scratches were. Given the overall cost for this....the mailbox, post, cement, and labor for installation... I would not want to start out with a mailbox in that condition and don't have the time to keep searching for one that isn't scratched.

This is a large, heavy-duty mailbox. I like the magnetic door closure and red “floor” of the box. Makes it seem less dark inside compared to a black base. We didn’t purchase a mounting plate to use with our 6x6 post but had no difficulty attaching it.

Very pleased with this product. It is thick metal with high quality joints - nothing is loose. The door closes with a magnet and does not rub the body of the mailbox when closing - thus eliminating wear and future rust. The door has a strong piano hinge which should eliminate future failures. The coating is excellent with no bare spots. It has multiple holes for various attachment methods. It should last a long time. Highly recommended.

A well made product. Piano hinge and magnetic door are good. There are 8 large holes in the mailbox floor for mounting bolts / screws. I did not want to scrape my fingers on bolt / screw heads while retrieving my mail, so I used the two holes along the bottom on each side for mounting.

The mail box it self is very well built, no flexing. Did not give it 5 stars because of the door hinge. Because it has a piano type hinge I thought it would be better than the typical pin hinges. The hinge is more durable than other types yet it has too much play which causes the door not to be square to the box hence occasionally hits the box front edge when closing. The manufacturer should have bent the metal going around the hinge pin to fit closer to the pin. Disappointing they put so much effort into making the box sturdy but not the hinge.

Made in India. Almost a good box

I am a handyman now.. Retired machine design mechanical engineer. I need quality box options for my brick mailbox repair jobs. nice thick powder coated galvanized metal box. but. the door to hinge rivets are to long. The door hits the bottom so it wont open freely past 170 degrees depending on which Indian made the bottom. The box is pretty sealed up. The flag may get loose over time as it is jsut riveted onto its mount. I took all 8 hinge rivets out and replaced them with 3/16x14: tubular rivets with backing washers between the lid and hinge so they are the correct length and the space reduced to contact on the bottom so I get 180 degrees but sadly not more. One other poster is correct the rivets barely get a grip so the metal shell and bottom can separate. I suggest people add 4 SS fasteners in the unused side holes.

Pretty solid, smart looking mailbox. Seems like the door hinge could stand to be a bit heavier gauge than it is. If the hinge does wind up failing it should be easy enough to replace. Noticed daylight coming in around the back of the box so I ran a bead of black silicone to seal it up. The shell and door are nice and beefy. The contrasting red paint on the bottom plate of the box is a nice touch. Really like the magnetic closure vs. the standard friction type. I'm happy with it.

Solid construction, sloppy on details.

It is very heavy gauge steel and looks like it will be durable, except where the door scrapes against the side of the mailbox when closing. Either the door is a bit off size, or more likely the top radius was started a bit too low.

This mailbox is a replacement for an identical box. The previous one survived many hits from various vehicles vehicles travelling our road. We have found numerous side mirrors broken off vehicles adjacent to the mailbox. Indeed, it has survived mirror attacks, baseball bats, etc, for two years. But it recently met its match when an 8x8x16 concrete block flew off a truck speeding down our road and it knocked the box off the post. Upon reinstalling it, I found it had just the slightest dent in it, thus preventing the door from opening or, once finally opened, it could not be closed. All manner of sledge hammers, pliers, and vise grips could not bend the box back into shape in order to easily open and close the door. Overall, I'm very happy with the mailbox and chose this one again because of its strength.

Its a nice Mailbox. Sturdy and well built. It fits well on top of a ledge type 4x4 post. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to make the predrilled box bottom holes just a bit closer together so it would have mounted into the wood more to the middle of the post. In other words the way its drilled now the screws have just barely enough wood to screw in without missing the post. You may have to angle the screws in a bit to get them into enough wood. Or I guess you could drill more holes in the box but I didn't want to mess up the box with extra holes. Being the technical guy I am, I also added a micro switch to the door magnet latch using the existing magnet latch screws on the mailbox to trigger a separate wireless alert box I purchased online.. Now every time the post office opens the box to deliver the mail, I get an email and a text alert to my phone. All in all its a great box with plenty of room for large packages. It should make my mail person that stuffs it with packages a lot happier. I would highly recommend it.

We live on a state road where cars and snow plows are moving at high speeds so our mailbox needs to be heavy duty to survive the winters! This mailbox is truly heavy duty!! It is grayish black in color, with a slight sparkle. It measures approximately 19 1/2" deep x 9 1/4" tall x 7 3/4" wide. The handle is 5 1/2" long. There is nothing flimsy about this mailbox!! You can push on it anywhere and the metal is not denting or giving at all!! It comes with mounting instructions and pre-drilled holes for mounting. This is a nice looking mailbox and more importantly built to last with a very strong and sturdy structure.

Ball Bat Proof !! If you live in a country area like I do, then you probably had some kids driving by in a pickup and swing a baseball bat smashing your mailbox. That will not happen with this Sequoia mailbox because it is built like a tank. It weighs about 16 pounds. This is a huge upgrade over my plastic box. It is beautiful in appearance and made not to rust or fade. The inside is made like a truck diamond plate toolbox. The magnetic door is a nice addition and even the handle to open the door is steel. I tried to attach it to my standard mail post that I already have but it would not fit. I searched online and home depot has an attachment that fits on your wood post for this style mailbox, so I will head to the store and buy that today while weather is nice. If you want a mailbox that will withstand a hurricane, then I recommend this one.

If you are looking to upgrade the look and sturdiest of your post mount mailbox, then you can't go wrong with the Architectural Sequoia pewter. This is a thick gauge metal box that won't dent at the slightest impact. It is powder coated throughout with no sign of over or under spray. Surprisingly even the red flag is made out of think metal. Instead of using a plastic door latch, the door is held shut through the use of a magnet.

The ARCHITECTURAL SEQUOIA HEAVY DUTY PEWTER MAILBOX FOR POST MOUNT arrived quickly, sealed inside its own carton and inside a larger shipping box. It was all intact with instructions for setting a mounting post into the ground. I selected it for the heavy duty construction to withstand being knocked into by a snow plow. We lost two other mail boxes because of the snow plow. I like the larger size. 20 inches long by 9.7 inches high and 8 inches wide. The specific feature is the door with a good solid handle.

I knew I could use a new mailbox. It was faded, the door often fell open (on its own), and it was a bit too small at times. After I installed this mailbox, it was quickly apparent just how old and low quality my old box had become right under my nose. This new mailbox was a huge step forward in looks, durability, and usability.

Nice design, door sets inside of box, protecting the opening from weather, and there is an inside flange as well, keeping anything that could get past from contacting items/floor. The door is riveted to a piano hinge, and the side and floor are riveted together as well, if they are stainless rivets, they should hold up well as they are not the small/cheap low carbon steel rivets you get with a rivet gun. The magnetic latch for the door is quite strong and holds it shut very well, have to slam it for the magnet to not keep it shut, otherwise it pulls it shut when close enough or the door falls back open. Metal is heavy gauge and should hold up for a very long time, however if it somehow gets bent, forget about trying to straighten it, it's thick stuff, automotive sheet metal is thinner nowadays. The flag also feels quite durable, rests on a solid stop and stays in the up position quite well, it's not a cheap plastic flag. However, I did bend it away from the box a wee bit, so it wouldn't rub the finish when raising/lowering. The floor has holes in it for fastening the box down, which works very well instead of trying to get a board to the 'exact' width and running screws in through the sides. For a very clean install, I used (4) #8 1-1/2" stainless wood screws with stainless 1/4" washers to mount it thru the floor plate to the board without having them protrude above the diamond tread pattern on the floor, so even if moisture does get in, at least the mail stays somewhat elevated.
