Ordered 6, 2 were damaged, can't return
I bought 6 lights (cost lowers if purchasing 6 or more) and 2 of them were damaged in transit. I want to exchange the 2 damaged lights with new ones. When I attempted to initiate this exchange, I was not able to select 2 lights from my order individually. It was all 6 lights or none. I am going to have to call customer service in the morning and hope there is a way to process this exchange. If not for this inconvenience I would rate the lights as a 5.
Perfect for kitchen sink
Selected 24" light to replace kitchen sink fixture after beautiful globe light was broken. Decided to go with an expensive, low profile light. This is it!
damaged goods. not in stock and had to order.
Ordered three led lights for garage that had to be shipped from Ohio. Opted to pickip in store so i could look at items for damage. One box wax ripped and exposed the light fixture that had a very small spot that was scratched but was acceptable as it was going to be installed as garage lighting. Took the three lights home and started to install them in garage. First two lights went fine and i opened the third light and it was damaged inside a box that had no exterior visible signs of being handled roughly. Store is 12 miles each way and called the store for return. It made no since to make a trip to the store to return the damaged light and order a replacement that would arrive three days later that i would have to make another trip to the store to pic up. I ended up ordering two more lights from home hoping one of the two would arrive undamaged and the first damaged light will be returned to the store at the time i go get the new order replacement. Not an easy uneventful purchase!
Being an Electrician….this light has a poor design
This light fixture is not installation friendly. For years as an Electrician the wires from junction box has always made connections in light trough. But some “Genius “ thought that having LED strip in the middle of fixture, and no “opening” for the wires to come through to make electrical connections. So your having someone hold the fixture, someone make the electrical connections and then mount the 4’ light fixture. NOT A GOOD DESIGN!!!
Replaced an older fluorescent light the same length as this one. It lights the closet at least as well as the fluorescent bulbs did. Original installer left lots of wire when hanging the old fixture, and this one has no place to hide excess wire. Other than this installation snag, light works great.
Limitation to consider
My garage ceiling was not wired with a junction box. This means the leads and terminals are pulled into this box to be kept. And to get them into the lighting box there needs to be a knockout. This model has no knockout.
Buy only if you have electrical skills
I liked the price (40% off). But there are no "knock-out" holes that the instructions describe. That's OK if you know how to drill out the plastic end, install a wire clamp, and re-wire the unit, but not every buyer does. Once you're done you're probably using this in a shop, where you'll skip the 'adjustable' lumens and color to their maximums. You'll never wish to touch the adjustment tabs again. (Ability to adjust is a waste).
These Lights are Awesome - Excellent Value
Purchased four of these lights for the garage, and love the look and light distribution. All functioned perfectly as described right out of the box. Some reviewers related that installation is difficult and a two person job. This is a one person job by temporarily hanging the fixture it to the electrical box with a cord or wire, then removing the cord/wire after all electrical connections are made.
Make sure that your ceiling has a junction box
This was a replacement for an old style fluorescent tube/ballast light in the laundry room. If your ceiling doesn’t have a junction box, as in my case, get the standard octagonal metal box and the number of appropriate connectors to secure the cables. Ceiling lights in homes from the 50s and 60s often were not grounded. The electricians merely cut off the grounding wires. Assuming that your cables have grounding wires, add a grounding wire to the junction box (using copper wire and a green grounding screw) and connect all grounding wires with a wire nut. Previous reviewers indicated that it was nearly impossible to mount the light directly to the junction box screws because the orientation was not a perfect 90 degrees to the wall. I elected to use 4 No 6 plastic wall anchors and ran #6 x 1 inch screws from the light fixture into the ceiling. Keep in mind that the light fixture is only 5 ½ inches wide. Therefore, there is little wiggle room to hide the junction box. Tips: tape the holes on top of the fixture with electrical tape to block stray light from entering the room. Get a helper and work from 2 six foot ladders to complete the installation. It is helpful to get as close to the ceiling as possible to view the mounting screws and electrical wires. Turn on the power and check to make sure that all systems are go before installing the diffuser. Installing the diffuser is tricky but goes easier if your helper squeezes one end of the diffuser into the slot and holds it tight while you run your hands down the diffuser toward the other end; similar to closing a zip lock bag. This light is super bright and lit up our 10x8 ft laundry room to all four corners. Technically, this isn’t a wrap around light because the diffuser shines directly down and not across the ceiling, but this wasn’t an issue for me.
Not very bright and has limited mounting options.
These lights only have one LED strip and aren't very bright. They also limit your install options because there are no knock-outs and they want to force you to use an electrical box in the center of the light which makes desired mounting positioning a problem when ceiling joists are in the way. I also didn't like the way the diffuser snapped in because it's not easy to install without risking breaking the plastic when applying pressure. I would not recommend these lights especially for a garage or workshop application. Might be fine for a small room with one light.
Very poor design
Multiple problems. The mounting holes fit to the large head screws that protrude from the junction box. Unfortunately for me, the junction box screws were not correctly aligned with the axis of the room, so the light mounts at a 40 degree angle to the room axis and looks very caddywompus on the ceiling. There is no way to adjust it. Also, when secured to the ceiling, light leaks out of several holes on top of the light where it meets the ceiling and sends light beams across the ceiling. My wife was not having any of this nonsense so its getting returned. As others have said in their reviews, this is an LED with Ballast ?? so it cant be LED and it also is not dimmable. To go to all the trouble to manufacture this beautiful light fixture and not foresee these defective design issues is very disappointed.
Max 4,000 not 5,000 lumens as advertised
I was on the fence as to whether I needed 4,000 or 5,000 lumens LED light fixtures to replace my old 2 bulb fluorescent light fixtures. I saw these lights on Lowe's website and thought these were the answer to my uncertainty since the lumens are advertised as adjustable from 3,500 to 5,000 lumens. My store had them in stock, so I went to purchase two sets. When I got to the store, they were only 2,000 - 4,000 lumens.
Perfect replacement for F40 T-12 fluorescents
Model FMLWL LNK 48 is the linkable light. The top cover is punched out to allow mounting to a round ceiling j-box. When you pry off the end covers, you will find integrated link sockets. I mounted four in my garage. First, I drilled a 1/2" hole into the endcaps for running Romex. Next, I screwed through the back cover and into the rafters. The link feature is nice, but I found that these lights were bright enough that I only needed four units, one in each corner of the garage so I direct wired them. The switches are independent of each other. In other words, you have complete control over lumens and color. Diffusion is very good with wide spread. For reference, I replaced twin bulb F40, T-12 fluorescent fixtures. Each bulb put out 2900 lumens, but that is at a 360-degree circumference. The downlight is probably closer to 1,500 lumen per bulb, or 3,000 per fixture, so the LED easily outperforms at high lumen settings and matches at the midrange setting. The link below is to the actual Lithonia spec sheet:
Perfect for Garage
I put 4 of these in my 440 square foot garage and they look great and provide excellent lighting. I really could have just used 2 of these and it would have still been an improvement from the old 4x2 fluorescent panels lights they replaced. This is a great product if you are unsure what brightness or color temperature you would like best in your space because both the brightness and color temperature have 3 settings. This is an uncommon feature for similar lights in this price range. So that feature is what really sets this light apart and makes it worth the money. Easy install; I did it myself. I figured out that you can hang the light from one jbox mounting screw so you can have both hands to hook up the wires if you do not have a helper.
Great quality lights for the price. Had to replace fairly new led lights that I had bought at a well known home improvement store because the led drivers were garbage and would cause the lights to strobe after only a few months of use. When I opened up these fixtures to install them, I was pleased to find the drivers were sealed and of much better quality than the ones I had in the “old” light fixtures. The only complaints I had was that the wires inside the fixtures were significantly shorter than what I am used to which made it harder to install and that there was one very small hole for the internal wires to go through to the outlet box. There weren’t any pre-perforated knockout holes. This means you can’t just connect armored cable to the fixture you need an electrical outlet/junction box for support and wiring. I had to measure and drill out holes for the outlet boxes and support. Not for the novice electrical DIYer. The housing is a good quality and the lens cover was easy to install and not brittle or flimsy.

In 2015 I installed 9 FMLWL 48 840 light fixtures as part of a major garage renovation. A few years later, all 9 of the fixtures started failing and became dim and flickering, but sometimes got brighter. Now, all 9 fixtures barely work. Some of the individual LEDs in each of the fixtures work dimly, others do not light at all. What was originally more than 26,000 lumens in my garage is now more like the two 100-watt incandescent bulbs I replaced. These fixtures are rated for 50,000 hours, which is equivalent to nearly 6 years of continuous service, 24 hours/day, however, these fixtures are generally used only a couple of hours per day. Because all 9 fixtures are behaving the same, this does not seem to be a defective manufacturing problem, but a defective design problem.
4' LED Lithonia Light
I had purchase an identical light to this about three years prior and it came with a 5 year Limited Warranty. The light is made as a complete unit and so replacement parts are not in circulation to fix this if there is a malfunction. My problem came from the LED element starting to flicker in portions of the 4 ft strip. I suspect that recent storm power outages in my area led to some kind of malfunction in this fixture, but things like that are fairly hard to observe or prove.
Great until you install the diffuser
Plenty of pre-drilled mounting holes and knockouts in a lightweight frame that looks and feels solid. The lighter weight was a big factor when trying to flush mount to a 14' garage ceiling. Installation went very well until it was time to install the diffuser panels and they were as difficult as previous reviews had suggested. A tight fit is normally welcome until working over your head. The locking channels are a little too shallow and the panels flex a bit too much to make "snap in and slide" as easy as the directions indicate. Practicing on the garage floor was nothing like being on the ladder, but starting about half way down and slowly feeding the panel towards the open end worked until the end cap. Again, I appreciate the fit now, but deeper channels would help a lot and work just as well end game. Some tape on the panel or sticky fingers will get you enough grip to slide the panel the last half inch into the end cap which needs to be depressed slightly to allow the panel to lock in completely. Much brighter than the old fluorescents and I would give them 5 stars if the diffusers weren't such a pain.
Fixture NOT as indicated on packaging
I have already commented on this fixture as I was SO DISAPPOINTED in it. Packaging indicates "Ideal replacement" for a two bulb T8 fixture, and IT IS NOT, as it doesn't even have bulbs.... Packaging indicates "Flush mounting" for either wall or ceiling. THAT IS FALSE--it can only be "flush mounted" to a previously installed ceiling fixture that is inset into the ceiling--NOT AT ALL "flush mount" as indicated. This fuxture NEGATES a big advantage of LED lights--eliminating the need, expense and energy requirements of a florescent ballast. THIS FIXTURE INCLUDES A BALLAST--not indicated on the packaging. The LED element will last a long time--is that true of the ballast? Most of them don't last as long as an LED light.
Great Product
Been using Lithonia 24” and 48” lights for years and love them. Years ago getting the lens/diffuser off without breaking was a challenge. Now there’s a plastic film type tab on the underside of the diffuser and stick out. Just pull and the diffuser comes off easily. Whoever invented that at Lithonia should be given a raise. Product provides plenty of light and looks modern and streamline.
