Nice design but one significant flaw
I bought this a year ago, so I've had time to live with it. I got it specifically because I was looking for a quality burr grinder that was quieter than my current (a Baratza Encore). In terms of size and looks, it's executed well. It's modern, sleek, and has a reasonable footprint. Adjusting the grind size is simple and further adjustments of the burrs themselves is easy too. In terms of sound/noise, comparing it to my Baratza Encore, the Opus is definitely better. No grinder is quiet, but the Opus is less harsh and definitely quieter, but it's not the silver bullet to grinding quietly in the morning without waking people. All great, so why 3 stars? Well, my problem is the significant amount of grind retention and the mess created by static. Yes, I know all grinders are plagued with this and spraying the beans before grinding can help, but the way the basket fits under the chute allows static to push grinds out all over. Tapping the sides isn't enough to release the grinds stuck in the grinder either. In comparison to my Encore, the Opus doesn't come close in this regard, which is a disappointment for a machine that is otherwise, well designed.
feels cheap works good
Looks nice, feels cheap and plastic and light but what can you expect for a lower price I suppose. I have a couple other grinders and they could be used as a weapon if need be. Not this one. It's light and feels cheap. Everything is plastic. It does look good. I'd pay 100 more to have it feel heavier and higher quality but I'm sure they are trying to hit a price point and the important thing is that it grinds well. Put the money into the grinder itself. My girlfriend has the Ode version 1 and it's nice but it throws coffee grounds all over the place with every batch of coffee we make and it's white to make it even worse. You have to dedicate some time just to clean up the mess from it so I thought I'd try this and hopefully it wouldn't be so messy. I give it an 8/10 for being messy, not perfect but way better than the Ode. I just wish this was made to the quality of the Ode. I have an old Ranchillio Rocky grinder and that is pure quality and heavy duty and has served me well for 20 years and still going strong I just got sick of standing there for a minute and holding the button while it grinds. I was looking for something hands free and this does it. It matches well with the Aiden coffee maker which makes fantastic coffee but like this suffers from feeling extremely cheap. I would gladly pay more money for a heavy duty unit that feels like it's made to last a lifetime. Fellow products in general to me seem very well thought out and it seems odd to me that this opus grinder and aiden coffee maker and so cheap feeling in the hand. I'm surprised it got by the powers that be at Fellow.
Great grinder, just not was I needed
This was a great grinder but not the one I was looking for. It was very quiet with just a low hum and sound of grinding beans. The look of this thing was very sleek like all of the fellow products. I ground a few batches of beans and the grinds retention was very minimal leaving about 1/8 of a tsp in the crevices under the burrs. I mainly brew chemex and I just couldn’t seem to get the right grind size on this one. I would say this grinder is built more towards espresso as stated in many reviews. I bought for the price but just did not work for what I was looking for. Nothing at all wrong with the grinder. I exchanged for the ode and that process was flawless.
Really cool grinder!
This is a great grinder. There are so many precision settings! It even has a guide on the lid to help you determine which setting to use for the type of brew you’re making. The lid itself is a measuring cup for your beans. I really like that is it quieter than my Cuisinart burr grinder. The grounds are consistently sized and look great. My only complaint is the cup receptacle. Since the grounds go straight down, they can make a mess if you bump or move the machine at all without the cup under it. My older one ejected from the front and down into a lidded container, which is less messy and keeps the grounds sealed if you’re not using them right away.
[Rewarded Review] An affordable, sleek grinder with excellent grind consistency, versatile settings, and a quiet, mess-free design-perfect for any home barista!
This coffee grinder is a game changer! It’s very easy to use and is ready to go right out of the box. The wide range of grind settings make it versatile for all types of coffee. The sleek design looks great on any kitchen counter without taking up too much space. Its also relatively quiet compared to other grinders, and the anti-static helps reduce mess. Considering the consistent performance and affordable price point, I highly recommend it for any home barista looking for a reliable grinder that delivers great results!
[Rewarded Review] A Detailed Review of the $200 Coffee Grinder: Worth the Investment?
I don’t drink coffee but I have family members that do, and I’m the one who makes the coffee. I like that the machine has different grinding settings for depending on how you make your coffee. Cold brew, espresso, French press etc. The lid has a mini guide on it that helps figure out which setting to use based on how you make your coffee. It also doubles as a measuring cup, one side holds enough for one cup, the other size holds enough for a small batch, and the entire lid hold enough for a 12 cup batch of coffee. The machine is easy to use, one button starts and stops the machine. Depending on how many times you press that button at a time sets the grinding timer. Anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 mins max. You can remove the grinder core to clean it, however you can’t fully clean the machine. There’s still always going to be some bits of ground coffee inside. The manual says you can use a small brush to brush out some of the bits of coffee on the removable blade core, I think it would be nice to include a brush with the machine. The price is very high, about $200 and compared to the $20 coffee grinder we have. There’s a noticeable difference is the coffee we grind using this machine versus the one we had. I mean the fact that we can regulate grind settings changes everything. No more overgrinding coffee.
[Rewarded Review] A coffee connoisseur's dream!!!
I never thought that fresh ground coffee could get any better. I’ve only used the coffee grinders at the super market and thought they did a great job. After using the Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder I will never go back. I appreciate the minimalistic design and the wide range of ground sizes. It doesn’t make as much noise as I thought it would and works very fast. The appliance size is small and compact and doesn’t take up much counter space. Doesn’t require much effort to clean all the parts since it’s very simple. It has made buying whole bean coffee easier to enjoy. If you are a coffee connoisseur it’s definitely worth the investment!
[Rewarded Review] Very easy to use
I received this product from Influenster for my honest review. This is a luxury coffee grinder, able to grind coffee beans in 7 different ways by moving a lever. The price point is quite high at $200, but the convenience it offers would make it worth it for many who love to grind their own beans. The noise level is fairly low, which is surprising to me for how well it works. I was quite impressed by that, as I was expecting the noise level of a blender or food processor.
[Rewarded Review] Much needed upgrade to my mornings!
This coffee grinder is the coffee grinder of coffee grinders. I’ve had a few cheapies, and I never knew what I was missing. I like that you can choose the level of fineness, and I like that you can grind it for an espresso. It also has a convenient way to measure the coffee beans built in to the machine by using the cap. The design is very sleek and sits beautifully on the countertop. I also like how the sound is semi-muted, so it doesn’t make it loud, jarring, grinding sound that wakes up the house. The only thing that wasn’t perfect is that you need to tap the top of the machine to make sure all of the ground coffee drops into the cup. This was a much needed upgrade to my morning routine, and I think it’s worth the price tag. I’m looking forward to making coffee in the mornings!
Save your money
After my faithful cuisinart grinder died following 5 years of service, I figured I’d treat myself to a bit of an upgrade. The only thing I upgraded was my expense.
Absolutely not worth the headache
After my faithful cuisinart grinder died following 5 years of service, I figured I’d treat myself to a bit of an upgrade. The only thing I upgraded was my expense. The second time I used it, nothing is coming out. I’ve tried shaking the hopper to make sure the beans aren’t simply getting stuck, changing the grind size, etc. nothing works. Worse yet, there’s no way to clean the thing. So if it’s somehow packed up with grounds, I have no way to remedy the situation without voiding the warranty. Although, not sure how that could be the case as I’ve only used it one other time. Save your money and buy the cuisinart.
Inches away from perfection!
I love this grinder. It’s a huge upgrade from what I had been using for years. It’s so close to being a 5, but there a few small things that aren’t quite “perfect” from my perspective - though your mileage may vary.
[Rewarded Review] A nice little addition to my morning routine.
To preface my review, I’d decided to take some time to test out this product and to better familiarize myself with it in order to give it a fair review. Given that it was my first time using a coffee grinder, it didn’t seem fair to review it straight away until I was able to get the hang of it and to try to get the results that I want, at least.
[Rewarded Review] Game Changer
I received this complimentary coffee grinder from Influenster for my honest review.
[Rewarded Review] Elevated Coffee Experience
Performance wise, this grinder is awesome and really allows you to experiment and precisely tailor to your needs. I’m still learning how to best make use of all the settings, but every time I’ve used it thusfar, I’ve had a consistent product. It’s probably the quietest grinder I’ve used too- which is definitely a plus in the mornings. After using, the grinder is surprisingly easy to clean- which I was originally concerned about. It may be pricey to most, but it has substantially elevated my brewing experience.
[Rewarded Review] The best
The Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder is an excellent choice for coffee enthusiasts. It offers precise grind settings, from fine espresso to coarse French press, with 41 stepped adjustments for flexibility. The conical burrs deliver consistent grind quality, enhancing the flavor of your coffee. Its sleek design, quiet operation, and user-friendly interface make it ideal for home use. While it's on the higher end price-wise, the build quality and performance justify the investment. However, some users may find it slightly slower compared to other grinders in its class. Clean with ease
Daily Cup Consistency Achieved!
I've been eyeing an Opus for a while, but kept rationalizing that I wouldn't be able to detect an improvement in my daily French press results based on my mastery of shaking a coffee/spice grinder. WRONG! From the first use of my new Opus, the consistency of the grind size was obvious and was immediately reflected in a smoother, richer cup of coffee. Being able to dial-in the grind so precisely removes a major variable contributing to cup-to-cup inconsistency and allows one to focus on water temperature and brew time as the other more easily-controlled variables. I'm very pleased with the simplicity, the quality, and the intelligence built into the the Opus grinder. If I had $.50 for each cup I brewed this year that was not as good as what I'm now achieving based on using the Opus grinder, I've already paid for it. WORTH IT!
[Rewarded Review] Perfect for small counter space !
I really really like this burr grinder!! There is nothing better than freshly ground coffee! It just tastes so much better! I love how small this is as I don’t have a lot of counter space with a coffee machine, a toaster, can opener etc. It’s really easy to use, very easy to get in an clean it and I think it’s fairly durable. The noise level isn’t too much in my opinion. As far as the price point of $195 that seems a bit much but if you can afford it and want something small that will allow you to grind many different amounts of coffee beans, I say go for it! You can likely see the numbers across the top. That is to help you decide the consistency of the grind. You’ll have a lot of options.
[Rewarded Review] Luxury Grinder
I was gifted this machine by the brand, but the following are my honest thoughts. I am not a professional barista, but I do enjoy coffee-making as a hobby, so I was extremely excited to try this machine out. My espresso machine is a $200 Neretva, and prior to getting the Opus, I was using a $20 Krups grinder. Unfortunately, I don’t think my machine is refined enough to take full advantage of the Opus. I’ve heard many good reviews of the Opus allowing for more flavor from the beans to come through, but that has not been my experience with my set up. I do prefer the grind to the Krups machine, however it was a harder than necessary learning process to get the right grind size due to the two dial tuning mechanism. The machine is quite large, but it is quite chic so it’s not an eyesore on your counter. Overall, I enjoy the aesthetics and enhanced grind customization I can achieve with this machine, but for the cost, this is more of a luxury purchase than a purely pragmatic one, which is why I am deducting one star.
[Rewarded Review] Hands Down Best Coffee Grinder I Have Ever Had!
This grinder is great. The grind consistency is on point. The noise level is at least half the sound of my typical grinder. It's definitely easy to clean with a brush. I had a minor clog and I had to just tap the sides to get everything moving again. The bean capacity is good for single use. It helps with the freshness of the coffee for sure. It's almost $200 but I have to say it's completely worth it for those who have a specific taste in mind. The magnetic function on the bottom to keep the cup in place is amazing. I'm really pleased and can't wait to show it off to my friends.
