Works Very Well With a Powerful Suction
I've been vacuum sealing since the first Foodsaver came on the market. My 3rd one finally stopped sealing. After some research, I decided on this Nesco vacuum sealer. The price was right, so I gave it a try and glad I did. I have had the sealer only a week. I vacuum sealed beets and salmon to give it a try. The sealer has a powerful suction and seals very well. I love the digital countdown display. It is easy to use, but it is different from the Foodsaver brand, as it has a handle to press down when you are ready to vacuum seal or make a bag. It has a double seal function. Being unfamiliar with this brand, I did read the instructions. I always buy rolls when they are on sale. I save a lot of money vacuum sealing, especially when the food is on sale.
product doesn't work on raw meats
This product will not remove all the air from the bag when sealing raw meats. leaving Pockets of air around the meat which defeats the purpose of vacuum sealer your meats. when I contacted Nesco about this they said the product was operating correctly and I should try drying off the meat more. vary disappointed with this product and the response from the company
All the features you need
This came highly recommended from many rating sites, and it lives up to those ratings. It may not be as familiar a brand as food saver and others, but I've owned other brands and prefer this Nesco. It vacuum seals well and has features like a double seal. Only drawback is that the liquid resevoir isn't removable and has to be cleaned while in the machine. Not ideal, but acceptable given all the other great features.
I have always wanted to get a food vacuum sealer but never was sure of which one to get. I did some research and this one consistently came up as one of the best. It took a couple of weeks to ship, but I am quite happy with the purchase. I used up the small roll already and half way through the larger one and it has worked flawlessly. Nice design, lots of features and looks like it's built very well.
Sure Beats my Dazey!
HA! I'm going to date myself here, but my last vacuum sealer was my Dazey Seal-A-Meal, which probably was cutting edge! Darn thing gave out its vacuum which brought me to Scheels and the VS-12. This thing is pretty amazing. I had to try it out the night I received it just to see how well it sealed... and ok, I'm amazed. My asparagus is starting to peek out of the ground, and it's going to be the first of my garden's produce to see the inside of these bags. AND.. who knew you could actually re-use the bags?? That's just terrific! I'll be doing that in my dishwasher and saving what plastic I can along with a little money. This machine was a little pricey, but let's hope it keeps running longer than my 40 year old Dazey did!! :-)
Stick with the FoodSaver brand
I just tried this vacuum sealer for the very first time and it doesn't work properly, right out of the box! I click on the buttons for vac %26 seal and double seal and neither works properly. The progress indicator starts counting down but suddenly stops at the number 6. And when I open the unit, there's only a partial, single seal, not the double seal I had previously set. This particular unit is an absolute joke and I'll be returning it, ASAP!
Why did I wait so long?
While I have a kitchen full of gadgets, I always felt a little intimidated at the prospect of getting a vacuum sealer. At the wife's prompting (and after TOO much produced being tossed tot he local wild life...) I finally got the Nesco. It's ranked as one of the 'Best of Breed' for good reason. Could not BELIEVE how simple it was to operate.I was ready to start vacuum sealing everything I could lay my hands on! The only learning curve was to be certain to leave enough room at the top and bottom sealing points (about an inch and a half) when doing your calculations. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and FUN product!
Not as Simple as you think
I’ve used my sealer on two different occasions. Once with leftover turkey and once with a spiral ham that came on sale. I read lots of reviews etc and the VS 12 came out on top for the lower price sealers. Mine was like $120 with two rolls of bag material.
Don't be like me - BELIEVE THE POOR REVIEWS!!
I should have believed the low reviews on this product but instead I went ahead and bought it. What a stupid mistake! It will not seal if there is anything with even a little moisture in the bag (you know, like 95% of the food you want to seal). And if a miracle occurs and you get what looks like a good seal, within an hour the vacuum is gone. That makes no sense to me - all four sides appear to be sealed and yet, air still finds its way into the bag. I tried several types of food and all had the same result. Very disappointing because I really like this sealer - so much easier to use than my old sealer. But this is already boxed up and will be returned today.
I have used this machine quite a few times now, and I must say, it is fast and easy to use. Just
I absolutely love this thing! It's just me and my husband and every pack of chicken comes with 3 breasts for some reason so it is so nice to pack one away and not worry about it getting freezer burnt. Same with lots of recipes I use that are a kind and a half of burger, the other half lb always gets freezer burnt by the next time I use it in a regular Ziploc but this thing does a great job of keeping it fresh! It is super convenient to just pull off the shelf and plug in and go. I love that it holds the plastic rolls right in the machine so you don't have to find other space for them, and the built in cutter is great I didn't even notice it for a while but it is so handy. I do a lot of foraging in the spring it is great for preserving my morels and ramps to use all year long. I highly recommend this to anyone who has to store freezer food
This has TONS of suction power and is very easy to use. The manual pulse vacuum button is a must for Spools of 3D printer filament because If you just hit "go" this thing will bend and crush a plastic spool of filament. The first spool I vacuum sealed was a spool of prusament and I heard a crack. Yes, it cracked the spool and that was on the "gentle" pressure setting. This thing is fast and STRONG! Other filaments with cardboard spools stand no chance. So tapping the pulse button while watching the spool for deformation is the key. This thing is awesome! I bought it for 3D printer filament but am now excited to try it for food as well. Keep in mind that a typical spool of filament BARELY fits in the 11" wide bags, but they will go in without too much trouble! This machine also does the "double seal" which I do by default. No issue with bags failing like I've had with other filament vacuum products. So overall it's awesome!
A Little Pricey and Worth It.
I really like this sealer. I've sealed chicken, steaks, pork chops, etc. I have not had any issues with air in my bags. The only drawback is the instructions are relatively vague, but there are good, in-depth videos available (of course!) on YouTube. You can use Nesco's bags or Foodsaver's, it doesn't matter. It's versatile but slightly bulky, and if you have a small kitchen like I do, it's a minor inconvenience moving some stuff around to make room for it. Other than that, this thing is definitely worth the money.
Really Loving It!
Purchased the Nesco VS-12 a few weeks ago after doing a fair bit of reading and watching review videos. So far, I'm loving it. It's and so much quieter than the old Food Saver one I had, and it has WAY more suction power. I also love the double seal setting. Now I don't have to seal the bag a second time like I used to. It can use standard 8" and 11" bag rolls from other brands, so it works with all my leftover Food Saver rolls, of which I have a LOT.
Should have spent more
For one of the top rated sealers, I wasn't super impressed. I wasted a few bags trying to get the seal to stay, but I feel that this was due to the quality of the bags that came with the sealer. Also, dried foods like jerky or something with points easily punctured the included bags. The instructions weren't super clear on where to place open end for vacing down so there was a learning curve.
Another One Bites the Dust!
I have probably gone through 6 or 7 Vacuum Sealers. Too many of Food Saver to count that all never lasted more than a year. So I tried a different brand. Bought this in Oct. and it died this week. Does not seal, does not vacuum. I went to Sam's and bought a lot of meat. Didn't get it all sealed, and what did seal has lost their seal already. I really count on a vacuum sealer to do what it intended to do. While my refrig sits with a ton of fresh meat, I wait for the new sealer to come in. This time, I am trying a Westin. This one has a five year warranty. How could I go wrong? lol
Great brand! Great product!
It’s the first vacuum sealer I had purchased. I researched the reviews on other brands and felt like this one would best meet our needs and it did! We love it! I have a hand mixer in this brand and love it as well. I felt confident in purchasing this brand and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s easy to use. Does a great job. Love the option of using manual button to seal without crushing fragile items and being able to seal meat with marinade liquid.
Excellent machine, great value for the money!
Excellent vacuum sealer! I have been buying in bulk and sealing food for many, many years. I have had 3 sealers of a different popular band that over time either broke, lost suction power, or just did not work well. This time, now trying this model of Nesco brand and I'm pleased with the performance! It's truly a work horse that does the job without problem. It's not bulky or heavy and has an easy to operate system that gives a surprising amount of power for such a compact machine, I love the small footprint. The great price also makes it very affordable.
Works well, sucks well, seals well
So far it's good... I have an old FS wide model thats still around 25 years later, the vacuum died so I'm trying a new Vacuum Sealer. The FS with same features is outta my price range, so rolling the dice on Nesco VS-12
I LOVE it!
I saw this unit being recommended on ATK and thought I’d try it since I’ve wanted a food saver for awhile but could never find one that checked all my boxes, except this one !
