I didn’t expect a plastic shade given the price of the product.

Starting with installation...the base panel and wiring is easy to do. If you have hung a ceiling fan or put in a light fixture, this part will be a breeze. The 14 inch LED base was small enough to where is didn't have much issue holding the base and wiring at the same time. There are 2 problems i ran into. The first issue was the instructions weren't very clear. I don't consider myself an expert or even an amateur, but I've installed my fair share of lights, appliances, etc...and the instructions kinda left me lost for a bit. There aren't any videos to help out either. The second issue was that attaching the diffusion layer was finicky. The clips didn't always work like I expected.
