This Coleman lantern is a life saver in a black out or if you are camping. The lights are super bright you can remove a side panel to use to move around with. It had USB charge port for charging your phone. My only complaint is it takes D batteries to work. I wish it had a charging port for the lantern itself as D batteries are expensive and you have to hunt to find them.
Terrible application
Terrible, especially for the price. If you leave the batteries in they’ll drain from the panels that charge off the D batteries. If you take the batteries out between use, the panels will drain and need to be charged when you put the batteries in. The panels will have to charge up which drains the batteries which puts you at a disadvantage right when you get to the camp site. I have to replace 8x D cell batteries every few months I go camping which is crazy because of the cost of these batteries. If you let it sit for even longer, everything is dead and at this point, nothing will come back on with new batteries. At this point it just collect dust on my shelf.
Useless for any emergency. It takes 2 hours to charge the side lights with NON-RECHARGEABLE batteries & you can't leave the D batteries in becdause they keep charging the side lights & go dead.C'mon Coleman, you can do better.
Disappointing. Not all panels light up when mounted in the base unit. All batteries (8 D-cells and 12 AAA's) drain RAPIDLY when the lantern is not in use. Fully-charged batteries drain to nothing within 2-3 weeks of not being used while in this lantern. I would like to purchase a simpler lantern that hopefully will not drain its batteries when not in use, but reluctant to waste money if unsure which lantern would allow batteries to keep their charge.
Very disappointed!
My husband purchased this to have "on demand" when the lights go out. As soon as he brought it home, he loaded it with D-cell batteries and it looked great! The 1st time the power went out, the lamp didn't come on...batteries were dead. Not even the detachable lights worked even though they had been charging all that time from the d-cell batteries. Very disappointing! He spent almost $100 for something that is not useful. I wish there was an upgrade for making it rechargeable.
Terrible for emergencies, ok for camping.
We bought this somewhat pricey lantern after a series of blackouts. The cost of the lantern and the initial battery investment had me thinking that I'd have a great emergency tool at my disposal.Unfortunately, as other reviews have mentioned, it only takes D cell batteries, which aren't rechargeable. This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that the 4 mini lights are constantly draining the batteries to recharge. This means that you need to keep the batteries out of the lantern until it's needed, because if you leave it for a few weeks or months and run into an emergency, all the batteries will be dead. One of the four lights on ours also had never worked when separated from the base, even with new, fully charged, rechargeable AAA batteries in it. Disappointing in and of itself, but you also cannot purchase replacement mini lights, which is just stupid. When the lantern is fully functional, it does a great job. Lights are bright and the stands on the beach of the mini lights are very handy. I did a bunch of work in my dark attic, and this lantern was great up there. But again, this lantern is for very specific short term purposes, and cannot be relied on in an emergency. Less
defective
The lantern slowly drains the D batteries and is useless if stored with batteries.
Just never works
I bought from QVC a few years back. Our electric goes out frequently. I put in all new batteries. I need maybe every 6 months. And EVERYTIME batteries are all dead. I replace, all works great, then next time I need it, all dead again. They should not be all dead from 1 use every 6 months. I am fed up, now am taking to the landfill. What an awful product.
Handle loose
since i brought this, the handle keeps coming loose, so you cannot carry it with it at all, this is from the word go, i am trying to get intouch with Coleman to see what they can do about it, and as someone says u just touch it and one of the lights falls off.
Unimpressive Recharging Routine
I was drawn to this lantern with advertising suggesting a USB connection... which I interpreted as "lantern recharging via USB connection". Wrong! USB connection is to attach a cell phone. In order to recharge the lantern, you must physically remove the rechargeable batteries (supplied) within each of the four detachable light panels and recharge them in your own separately purchased battery recharging system. Very archaic and user non-friendly. 8 alkaline batteries (not supplied) need to be inserted into the base of the lantern, but whose purpose I have not yet determined.
Quad Pro Lantern
It is a great product! Bright lighting. And the fact that you can separate it into a set of four individual lights is nice.
Good
Works and looks great
so useful and versatile
Used for home security (during storm electrical outages) and camping. Liked that each section could be used individually and still emit so much light.
Great idea but constantly drains batteries UNUSED!
Great concept and love the feature set. I bought this for my family for power outages and hurricanes but I ALWAYS have to keep a spare batteries even though I don’t use the lantern until there is an outage. The batteries drain just sitting without use. I have never spent so much money on batteries. I had even bought one for work and recommended it to another coworker before I knew the batteries drained so quickly without usage. Such a disappointment.
A surprising and very useful device.
Where I live, south of Sydney, Australia, we often suffer the occasional blackout from sudden storms. Our daughter came to light for us with this extremely handy device. Now, I don’t hae to grope around for candles in the dark.
It isn't what it ain't Friends,
Fine, fellows, if you know what not to expect so to address your doubts: A- lettered batteries only drain; they don't charge. B- Size D bigs is good cuz it has biggest charge cap'y; longest drain time versus lower letters/sizes. C- LEDs not Leds run much longer and cooler than incandescents, but they are not rechargeable; and Light Emitting Diodes only emit light but never produce or store power ... day or night. D- Drain-only batteries is good--not bad--cuz they can be replaced new. Rechargeable cells would be bad because, they wear out like regular batteries, but when they do, the entire lantern is expended and must be replaced. Remember! A lantern depletes power to produce light only when needed, A lantern is not a charger. The product name says it all so no need to imagine extra benefits that aren't there; all you'e buying is light, nothing more, Less
Very disappointed
Bought these a few years ago for all the family. Every single one of them died within a few years. And just like another review, they drain the batteries as they sit. Would not recommend. Coleman, very disappointed in your quality anymore.
Great light, but could have been better.
Just picked up this awesome light with 4 removeable lights. This is great for camping or really anything, the light spread is really versatile! Only down side is that it requires batteries and is not a rechargeable. Feel like Coleman fell short of a home run with this one...
Modern Age Camping Lantern!
This lantern is great from a functionality stand point. With its 4 disconnecting panels you can really customize the light spread from this thing. It is absolutely perfect for game nights out camping where everyone can get their own light and still have the base to light up the table! My only negative for this product would be the fact that it takes 8 D batteries. This thing would be a perfect lantern if it had a rechargeable battery instead of the antiquated D battery power source.
I bought 2 as gifts. I liked them so much I'm going to buy 1
Used for camp out and glad to have for emergency power outages
