Emergency ice maker. My fridge ice maker quit so this is an excellent substitute. I really like the tubular shape. OH, I'm using it to make flavored ice. I buy bottled flavored water and make ice the same flavor as my drink. My favorite is tangerine!

Great little family ice maker!

I'm a single guy living in an apartment with a refrigerator that does not have an ice maker and I do not like to mess with filling/emptying ice trays. So, for years I have been buying a 12 lb bag of ice for $2.13 at the grocery store about every 3 days. About 26 months ago, I bought a Silonn portable ice maker for $114. It's rated output is 26 lbs/day, or a little over 1 lb/hr, which is over 6 times more than the 4 lbs/day that I need. The machine only holds about a quart of ice before it automatically shuts off. Then you can either remove it for immediate use or store it in your refrigerator's freezer. The ice storage compartment is only minimally insulated. So, the ice will slowly melt and drain back into the water reservoir to be re-used to make more ice. After 26 months of use, it still makes ice as good as ever, but the transport system that moves the ice from the freezer section to the storage bin quit working properly--probably due to normal wear on one or more of the many cheap plastic parts it is made of. Although I was initially disappointed that it did not last longer, I realize they are not made to last forever. Actually, I am still EXTREMELY HAPPY AND SATISFIED with this product, because it has still proven to be one of the BEST INVESTMENTS I have ever made! Based on the above numbers, it has SAVED ME $447 from the cost of bagged ice, in just 26 months, and that is after deducting the cost of the machine itself! So, I just bought a replacement Silonn/Philergo Portable Ice Maker for $59 $8 for a 3yr Protection Plan, which means I should not have to spend another penny on it for at least 3 years! Both the old %26 new machines have a self-cleaning feature recommended for weekly use, which I believe is of questionable benefit. It involves draining the water reservoir and then refilling it with a half %26 half mixture of water and white vinegar, letting it circulate through the system for half an hour, draining again, refilling with fresh water, and then making/discarding 3 batches of new ice. At first, I always shut the machine off every night before going to sleep. Whatever ice was left in the bin would melt and be re-used when I turned the machine back on the next morning. Over night, moisture would form on the walls, top and moving parts in the freezing compartment, which over time would turn into mold/mildew, and which the self-cleaning was unable to take care of. I believe a better option, which I found on You Tube, is to simply NEVER turn it off. Although it does not run and waste energy when the ice bin is full, it will re-start automatically when a certain amount of ice melts, thereby keeping the interior temperature cool enough to suppress the formation of mold/mildew! Just make sure that if you empty the ice bin there is still plenty of water in the reservoir to make more ice. Also, it takes up less than 1 sq ft of counter space and can be used anywhere there is an electric outlet.

Takes 6 minutes for the large ice. yes i timed yet ;) and 3.25 minutes for small size. Reserve can hold 3.5 glasses of my pounder glasses, as seen in photo. we have been making nonstop. i took video but the review area does not allow video. this will be mother's day and Christmas presents moving forward.

Ease of using it takes a while to make ice but after making ice put some ice in with water that made for faster ice making. I would buy again

It is very easy to use, three to four pieces of ice can be produced in one minute, and it will freeze into ice cubes in a few minutes after the water is poured in. The ice machine is very convenient to use, just plug it in and turn it on, don't worry about it. The ice machine produces ice very quickly, and a large basket of ice cubes can be produced in ten minutes. It can also be divided into two sizes, which is more considerate. The ice cubes are also very strong and won't melt in the refrigerator. A very useful ice machine, it does not take up space in the refrigerator, and the appearance is simple and elegant.
