I should have believed the bad reviews but this size and style handle was hard to find. It replaced one that was somewhere over 40 years old. It lasted about a summer, I tried some repairs and blue loctite that gave it another few months of frustrating use. Low quality part, and rusts easily.

The door know will not turn when installed

It actually replaced a thirty plus year old fixture perfectly.

Sturdy

I’m not fond of the black color, but compared to my old handle this one is very sturdy. I would buy it again just based on that.

DONT BUY

I have bought 4 of these in the last year and a half. EVERY SINGLE ONE broke after a few months. The handle just falls right out. There is no mechanical connection keeping the latch on the door. Spend your money on a different style than this one.

More substantial than the knob it's replacing.

I've broken a bunch of handles similar to this one because my door frame was a little small and it took some tugging to get the door to latch. I actually hammered the frame edges to make the opening a little bigger so now it closes easily. This knob/latch kit also seems a little heavier and sturdier than my previous ones, so I am hopeful it will last a good while!

Decent quality for this price level. Installation was fairly straightforward and it works fine. One small issue: the lock apparatus is satin nickel but the striking plate is polished chrome--not that anyone other than me (or maybe you) would ever notice.

Poorly made knob

I agree entirely with the other one-star raters. It looks nice. But: the handle and knob are held tight with set screws that easily loosen after a day or two, after which the door knob/handles don't work. From an engineering perspective, even with set screws a better mechanism can easily be imagined, but not by National's design people. Don't buy this (or do, and immediately wish you didn't).

1st- You need a 5/8 drill bit, which is no where on the packaging. 2nd- it is VERY particular about how it is installed and has VERY low tolerances for wiggle room, making the installation frustrating. 3rd- the set crews come unscrewed very easily and require frequent tightening to keep the handles from spinning.

Like everyone else, this was the only door handle I could find for a Screentight screen door that would latch as the door is 1 inch thick and made of vinyl and we needed this type of latching system due to the door frame. The latch only sticks out a little and I know this product will probably only last a few months or days. Bummer. If anyone else knows of a better door knob for 1 inch thick vinyl door I'd love to know, but we've probably ruined the door for anything else with all the holes we had to drill. Don't buy.

The bolt has a very short throw so you need a very close fit between door and jam. Then the action is finicky, not very precisely built

Our wooded screen door had a handle exactly like this one that was old as dirt and fell apart as such. But Lowe’s was the only store that carried what we needed to avoid replacing our entire door or doing extensive work to it. Solid, beautiful l, easy to assemble.

Knob works well. Works better when the pre-existing knob hole through the door is smaller than 1” diameter. Lock works well.

I purchased this hardware while refinishing my old screen doors that open up off of the dining room. The old hardware was worn and couldn't be refinished so this was the upgrade. It looks just like the old one so the style is all the same!
