Modern and innovative.

This is Grohe quality item. I was initially disappointed to see that it was made in Portugal and not Germany. But did not find any flaws. It takes a professional who is willing to follow specific directions - paper and video available. But the look is like no other shower - if you are looking for a contemporary European design. And push button is the best way of controlling shower. Who nobody ever thought of that before.

Nice shower system

We accidentally selected this system from Ferguson. By the time we realized we selected it, it was delivered and we decided it was ok. Like the unit, works well, looks good. Not sure if I would do the rain head style again, seems like a waste, but it is trendy.

The brass nipples supplied with this unit do not have standard NPT threads. The threads do not taper and they are meant to be used with European methods of sealing pipe connections. If you use teflon tape to seal them, they are going to leak! No amount of tightening will prevent them from leaking! After reading plumbing blogs from the UK, I found they recommend Loctite 577, an anaerobic sealant (seals when air is absent). You can buy Loctite 577 online. Do not use any other sealing method when using the 557. Clean the threads thoroughly and place a ring of sealant on the ends of the nipples, a few threads back and press the sealant into the grooves to ensure they are filled. Tighten as normal. The threads will seal instantly but wait at least 4 hours for maximum strength, before applying maximum water pressure. Grohe could easily solve the problem by supplying nipples with NPT threads and then teflon tape would work fine.

It was a pain to install it. Our contractor went back and forth for many days to get this to stop leaking and work properly. It was finally installed and so far okay. Would not recommend as they need to have a better and easier installation.

[Rewarded Review] Works Great Once You Replace The Fittings

I love the way this shower assembly performs. However, it took three contract plumbers' visits (at a cost of over $1000) to get the pipe fittings not to leak. And, this is after Build sent me a replacement unit. I even contacted Grohe (who sent me the wrong parts). The plumber finally had to solder the connections to get the unit to not leak. Fortunately, my bath reno was on the first floor, and the basement was the only place that took water. The issue is that the fittings for the unit are knurled. If you're not familiar, I've attached photos. With knurling on the fittings, no amount of plumbers tape or thread compound will hold up. The knurling simply tears up the material. Even worse, once threaded all the way in (by hand, no less) the fitting still moves. Sloppy, poorly designed and with plumber's bills, the entire assembly cost me over $2500. But once soldered the functionality of the unit, along with the huge shower head, hand held unit, auto-temp and push-button controls, is fantastic.

Smart Looking and Solid Features, But.....

Bought this in January for a renovation project that didn't get underway until June. While I was totally impressed with the product in static display, once the plumbing contractor installed the unit it leaked like a sieve. The plumbing contractor ( a great reputation in the area) was unable to get the fittings that connect the unit to the home's plumbing to seal. Attempts at taping and Permatex were futile: You see, the threads on the fittings are knurled. This chews up plumber's tape and sealant with each turn. In addition, the fittings could be tightened until ground out, by hand. Even then, the fitting had slop. Neither the plumber (30 years experience) nor I (with over 20 years in aircraft engineering) had ever encountered knurled pressure fittings like these. Likely because they would leak.

Not so easy install- even for professional

Bought this for bathroom remodel. Plumber had difficulty installing. Bought rain shower head - no pressure. Liked fact it is not on a slide which I heard most times slides down.
