Close, but not what I ordered...

The swivel feature was a major feature in my selection of this item. However, it appears that the Home Depot employee that pulled and packaged the item didn't know that, so I got the stem mounted version instead.

Flexible in Application

This photocell is being used to control sign lighting on an urban street. There are multiple lighting sources on the street at night (street lighting and vehicles) that could adversely affect the operation of a photocell. The swivel connection of this photocell allows it to aim away from these light sources so that they do not interfere with its operation. The photocell's time delay feature keeps it from reacting to momentary flashes of lighting from traffic on the street.

Works like a charm. Wiring is straightforward and the adjustable light cover is a nice feature.

Reliable and Easy to Install Woods Photocell

I replaced the flimsy factory installed motion/light sensors (I've never gotten those things to work) on my LED floodlights with this very reliable photocell which keeps my security lights on all night. I've already done that on one set of floodlights three years ago with -0- problems and now I purchased another Woods photocell for another set of floodlights. The key for me is that it is rugged/dependable and very easy to install (simply unscrew the factory installed sensors with the Woods photocell being a direct physical replacement). The never working factory installed motion detector was simply a nuisance.

These Just Work, and Work WELL!

This is a dusk to dawn lighting control. It turns the lighting load that is connected to it on when the ambient light around the sensor is reduced to a certain level. It will then turn the lights off once the ambient light around the sensor is raised to a certain level. In short, when the sun goes down at dusk, the lights will turn on and when the sun comes up in the morning, the lights will turn off. I have two of these installed at my home and they both control their lighting loads consistently and reliably. These sensors will work with incandescent, halogen, CFL, LED and HID light fixtures. They are also super easy to wire. The black wire from the sensor connects to the incoming hot wire, the red wire from the sensor connects to the hot wire going out to the lights and all of the neutral white wires are connected together. If you only want your lights to come on at dusk and turn off at dawn without all of the extra frills such as motion sensing and timers, this is the sensor for you!

Industrial/commercial use quality

Well made and has a crafty manual sliding bar that shades the eye for dead simple sensitivity adjustments - the bane of cheaper units with turn screw electronic adjustments that just aren't reliable. Good unit, perhaps a bit large but its a reeptacle that easy to access and make connections and future connections.

LIGHTS NOT ILLUMINATING: Diagnosis of the problem: I swapped out the new Woods photocell with an old photocell, thinking that the old cell was the cause of my front driveway gate entry lights not illuminating in the evening.. Well, it was a waste of work, as it later was determined that the problem was actually my small AC to DC power converter was defective, instead of the controlling photocell. I left the new Woods detector in place, and after the power converter was replaced, the entire system now works well.
