Costly kitchen decoration

I purchased this in early December as a Christmas gift for my husband. Loved the look and it worked fine right off the bat, other than a bit of a hesitation on the opening of the lid for filling. Just assumed it was part of the soft open/close which is appealing. It’s now just over 3 mos old and no longer opens. Tried to return for an exchange, but was told I was out of their return range. I can’t fill it with water and now it just looks pretty on the counter.

On the downside, it could be a tad easier to fill. Additionally, a larger capacity would make it an absolute winner. All in all, it's a pretty neat kitchen gadget!
