Topcon RL-H5A Rotary Laser w/ LS-80X Receiver, Tripod and High Quality Grade Rod 1021200-50

Overall this product has worked as expected. The laser level itself seems to be built very well and is easy to use. The tri-pod legs work ok, but they are cheaply made compared to competitors I have used in the past. The main downfall I have with my order is the grade rod. When unboxing the grade rod, the black plastic pieces that wrap around the tops of each section had multiple pieces broken off inside the box. I sent Benchmark a message on this requesting a replacement as one would assume when spending almost $800 on a set-up like this there would not be any broken parts, but I have yet to hear back. Nonetheless, this product still seems to be overall a good unit that will help my small business grow and complete projects with the confidence.

RL-H5A with reciver, awesome kit awesome customer service.

Very pleased with the laser and reciver. Tested range on my street reciver was able to go about 600ft and still pick up grade. Very happy with my purchase. As a wonderful surprise the customer service I received was 2nd to none. Was not my first purchase from Benchmark and definitely won't be my last. Very good company that actually cares about what ya need and helps make the correct selection based on your needs. Big thumbs up to both the laser and Benchmark! Well done!

Easy to use

I purchased this to level theatrical truss and decks. I will say that it's easy to use, very intuitive and so far seems robust. One thing I will say is that I asked if this red laser would be effective for use outside without the receiver at short distances (30'-50'). Another words could I just spin it up and look for the line and negate the need for the receiver. I was told it would be possible, short answer is forget about it. You need the receiver, my guess is that a green laser may work, but il'll never know at this point. Other than that, as long as it keeps working, I'll be happy!

Great laser. Not impressed with Topcon company

I owned this laser for 2 years with no issues and it was awesome. Weighed flawlessly Everytime and was an awesome product for the money. That was until it quit auto leveling. I contacted Topcon and brought it to my local dealer to be sent it. The Topcon tech contacted me letting me know that the repairs would surpass the cost of a new laser and that none of the repairs were covered under warranty due to the fact that he had deducted that the unit had been abused in some way. This is my personal laser and no one but myself uses it and I know for a fact it was never dropped or abused. Not sure if it was an issue during transit from dealer to repair hub or what caused the damage. I won't be buying another Topcon product after this experience.Beware of "5 year warranty, unless we don't want to warranty it at all"

Worth the Investment. Less Labor Intensive. Fewer Mistakes.

I have used this product in the past but recently changed jobs. My new employer did not have a laser leveler and did not want to buy one due to its cost. This had made my job leveling deck railing on mobile systems so much easier and quicker in the past that I decided to but my own leveler. Although this laser costs a lot up front, the savings realized by using less labor hours and in having much fewer mistakes makes it well worth the money. I will never go back to measuring and leveling railing it. Now I am teaching my crew how to use it. They are amazed at how much easier it makes their job.

Best value for the money!

Im a general contractor & build & pour concrete pads & use a laser everyday. For the money, you cant beat the Topcon RL-H5A in this price range. The next best laser in this price range is the Topcon RL-H5B. The B doesnt do slopes, the A does & for the small price difference in the two, the A is a better value. Ive used Topcon brand lasers for years & Ive used other brands. The only two brands I would recommend are the Topcon & the Hilti. If you pour concrete, do grade work, or work on residential builds daily, the Topcon RL-H5A works great on all of it. It is also built tough & sturdy & comes in a hard case that protects your laser, receiver, & holds your batteries as well. I done my research prior to buying the RL-H5A despite knowing what I already know about various brands & overall couldnt find a better fit for me for the price. The only thing that would make this purchase even better is if you got 2 receivers with it. Lol! Still, you can purchase another one separately & I would recommend doing so. The shipping was also fast & packaged well from ToolDeals on Benchmark. They are a small business genuinely concerned with your satisfaction. Hope this helps if youre on the fence about which laser to purchase.

I would buy local next time

When I order the laser I entered the promo code Free tripod . When the laser came there was no tripod Or grade rode . I call their customer and asked if they could overnight the tripod and grade rode in which I was willing to pay for. The next day I got nothing. I call back and spoke to them again and they now where going to overnight them for free (great) next day I get the grade rode and there was no tripod. Now I have to go buy a tripod 79$ so I can start my project. After cooling down I call again a day later and take to them again and she says we just sent it out . So after 3 phone calls I have everything I need + an extra tripod that cost me a extra 79 $

Best outdoor long-range rotary laser for the money!

I did an extensive amount of research and evaluation, and found that the Topcon RL-H5A is the best value for the money out there today for a red outdoor horizontal long-range rotary laser. Compared to other rotary lasers at this same price point, the Topcon RL-H5A comes with a manual slope capability that does not require you to spend another $120 to purchase a wireless remote, as well as a 5 YEAR warranty from the manufacturer. Some of the other units out there, while offering more bells and whistles, are much shorter range units that do not offer the level of accuracy of the Topcon RL-H5A. If you are trying to decide between the RL-H5A and the RL-H5B, my recommendation is that if the price difference is not all that much, go for the H5A. It is longer range and offers a manual slope capability, which the H5B does not. When comparing rotary outdoor lasers, this Topcon is in the league of similarly priced contractor-quality lasers from top drawer manufacturers such as Spectra Precision, PLS and Leica. At this price point, I was torn between Topcon and Spectra Precision (Trimble) LL100N. While the LL100N offers a more rugged design (it is supposed to withstand a 3 foot drop to concrete) the Topcon far exceeds it in terms of features and accuracy. To get the same level of features in the Spectra, I would have to step up to at least the LL300N, at a far greater price. Keep in mind that I would not compare either this Topcon or the Spectra Precision units to some of the more DIY or consumer grade products from Bosch and CST/Berger (owned by Bosch) that you can buy at Home Depot and Lowes. They are simply NOT in the same league. It is unfortunate that Topcon does not offer this rotary laser with their LS-100D receiver as a kit with the alkaline battery option. You have to buy the Topcon rechargeable batteries if you want the LS-100D instead of the LS-80 receiver. However, you can always buy the LS-100D later for around $275 or so. But, for around the same money as the LS-100D there are other laser receivers out there that outperform it, although with a couple of caveats. One of those would be the Apache Storm or the HL-700, both made by Seco/Spectra Precision/Trimble. See my review of the HL-700 here on Amazon for more information about the good and bad points of using that laserometer with the RL-H5A.I bought the alkaline battery version and purchased separately an AdirPro 740-02 tripod (orange) and AdirPro 710-12 16ft aluminum grade rod (tenths). This is an excellent combination for the money and I highly recommend it, all components are built well and very sturdy. You can spend a bit more for a fiberglass grading rod if you are a commercial user, but for my purposes the aluminum was more than good enough and it was half the price of a fiberglass rod. With the RL-H5A rotary laser, the AdirPro tripod and grade rod, and the Spectra Precision HL-700, you will have assembled a KILLER rotary laser kit at the lowest possible price.

Best affordable long-range rotary laser level, if you don't need 3 foot drop to concrete rating

I did an extensive amount of research and evaluation, and found that the Topcon RL-H5A is the best value for the money out there today for a red outdoor horizontal long-range rotary laser. Compared to other rotary lasers at this same price point, the Topcon RL-H5A comes with 1/16" accuracy and a manual slope capability that does not require you to spend another $120 to purchase a wireless remote (something I did NOT like about the Spectra Precision), as well as a 5 YEAR warranty from the manufacturer. Some of the other units out there, while offering other bells and whistles, are much shorter range units that do not offer the level of accuracy of the Topcon RL-H5A.If you are trying to decide between the RL-H5A and the RL-H5B, my recommendation is that if the price difference is not all that much (shop around!), go for the H5A, you won't regret it. It has twice the range, is more accurate, and offers a manual slope capability, which the H5B does not. When comparing rotary outdoor lasers, the RL-H5A is in the same league of similarly priced contractor-quality lasers as other top drawer manufacturers such as Spectra Precision, PLS and Leica. At this price point, I was torn between Topcon the RL-H5A and Spectra Precision (Trimble) LL100N at first. While the LL100N offers a more rugged design (it is touted to withstand a 3 foot drop to concrete) and can operate in a vertical position (manual mode only), in my opinion the Topcon excels in terms of features and accuracy. Also, I did not like the open tower design of the LL100N (no glass surrounding the spinning laser tower). To get the same level of features in the Spectra Precision lineup, I would have to step up to at least the LL300N, at a far greater price. Keep in mind that I would not compare either this Topcon or the Spectra Precision units to some of the more DIY or consumer grade products from Bosch and CST/Berger (owned by Bosch) that you can buy at Home Depot and Lowes. These are superior units in my opinion and are simply NOT in the same league with what you find at Home Depot and Lowes stores. If you want to compare apples to apples, you need to be comparing Topcon and Spectra Precision to Leica and PLS, not Bosch, Johnson, CST/Berger or AdirPro. Just look around at commercial job sites, especially concrete and foundation work, and ask some of the workers and foremen about the lasers they use (and which ones they have found survive). With the RL-H5A rotary laser, the AdirPro tripod and grade rod, and the Spectra Precision HL-700, you will have assembled a nice rotary laser kit at the lowest possible price. There are better rotary lasers out there for a lot more money (for example, the grade lasers), and if you are a heavy commercial or industrial user, those might be worth it. For me, I am in the irrigation and landscaping business, and for my applications this is a KILLER kit for not that more cash than I would have spent at Home Depot or Lowes for a Bosch unit.

Top Quality, long lasting

This is Well Built, Easy to Use Right out of the Hard Case. The case has storage to hold an extra set of batteries if needed. Also has molded spot storage for the LS-B10 machine mounted laser receiver. When I ordered this. The shipper sent this FEX-EX with required signature. A++ For that. Topcon makes a great quality product. I have used this for at least 40 hours on the same batteries and its still going strong.Update: May 1st,2019 still using same rechargeable battery they say 60 hours but Im at 80 hours of use and its still holding up. Maybe cause its a new battery. No complaints. I keep a set of D-Cells handy, I really want to see how long it can go. This has made installing French drains so easy. Setting up my concrete forms and setting a 2 degree slope. This beats a string any day and I dont need two people anymore with transit.
