We really like the minimalist style
These Flip hook units turned out to be as sleek and sturdy as pictured on the web Umbra site. Well-made and stylish. Minimalistic. Unfortunately, though we ordered two of the lighter coloured woods shown on the site at the time, one of each colour came. They didn't match. We asked for a light-coloured replacement. Apparently they no longer offered one or the other. Too bad. Anyway, Umbra eventually agreed to send two matching (darker) Flip-8s as replacements. They will do just fine. Gotta like the company's effort!
I replaced my hall tree with a bench that has shoe cubbies underneath it and this item to hang above the bench. I like it much better than the bulky tree, not the piece itself but how it became bulky w three people’s worth of jackets, gloves, shoes, purses, etc. The look is cleaner and less cluttered looking now. Works great for our purposes, I’m quite pleased with this purchase.
I had this same coat rack in my walk in closet at my former residence. I liked it so much that I bought another one for my new home. It is perfect for a closet to hang up your pajamas or other clothing. I highly recommend it. Don't throw out the paper ruler; you need it.
It needs a stronger method of hanging on a wall, I would think. Also, I hope each individual peg isactually sufficiently strong to hang stuff on...mostly coats, shirts, sweaters, other articles of clothing......It looks very good, though.
Nice quality wall coat/accessory hanger. What I love most is that the hooks retract. So everything is flushed to the wall until you need one. Then you will just pull it out. It's very streamline and contemporary looking. Plus it doesn't take up any space.
Great Wall Hooks
This is our second Flip—the first was damaged in a fire—and we ordered a replacement without a second thought. It’s classy, functional, and convenient. My only complaint is that it can be a challenge to hang unless studs are right where you need them. Use sturdy drywall hangers and measure carefully if they’re not!
I am very pleased with my 8 hook retractable coat rack from Umbra. This one was the perfect length to fit on that particular wall space on my stair landing. I decided to install two of these retractable coat racks on my stair landing because I thought me and my housemates needed extra hooks for guests’ coats.
We very much like the look and the utility of this coat wall rack. However, when our contractor took it out of its shipping material, he failed to notice a chip on the lower left hand corner until he had installed it. If possible We would like this replaced at your earliest opportunity. Jim and Mary
Matte black fans, where are ya? This is it. Point forming my review:- Yes, it's actually all black and not dark brown- Yes it's a pretty solid unit- Yes the hooks are plastic (I wish it weren't but so far no issues. If you see picture, we've been hanging things by the tags so that the article slides to where the hook is most strong, at the bottom. Any heavy articles we store somewhere else. Hopefully I won't have to come back to this review to edit if this method breaks anything)- Yes it comes with hardware (well one of the three I ordered didn't but I had the right stuff to make it happen)- Yes I do recommend that you use the anchors and screws it comes with for the best result.- No, I wouldn't recommend this behind your door (you likely have hollow core) unless your door is solid wood- If you used the anchors and the screws and it's wiggling, then tighten the screws a little bit to close the gap between the unit and the wall. The less shaking, the less likely it will come loose (and damage more of your wall) in the future.NOTE: Darker finishes tend to show swirls, scratches and the like more easily than light coloured finishes. It doesn't matter if it's a high quality product or a low one, it just does. So unless you're careful with hanging your stuff (i.e. not just throwing things at it) and avoiding sharp items (like belts, buckled items, etc) this is a win.Would buy this over and over again. Less
Flip 8 wall hooks...issue with the white paint
The item is attractive, but when the hooks are "down," the finish behind each hook (which shows) is quite rough looking. It's painted white, but the material underneath looks bumpy. I also have a shorter brown wood version of the wall-mounted hooks, but on that one, the finish behind each hook is smooth. So, I'm not sure if the issue is with the longer model or with the white-painted model. This isn't the end of the world, but it's something I noticed right away. I have not yet been able to hang either piece, but I do worry that the bigger one won't be able to hold too many items, as has been suggested in other reviews. Fingers crossed. I love Umbra designs.
Slim sleek modern look.
Nice slim hook. Looks great over my shoe bench. Just what I needed at the front door to hang sweaters and jackets. It came with all the necessary hardware to hang it. Having 8 hooks is plenty for us. It comes in other sizes. However, we had to purchase butterfly anchors for our walls. It seems sturdy. Maximum weight per hook is 5lbs. My husband just hung it so let's see if it withstands the test of time. It did arrive with a little damage. It's really not too visible so no need to call overstock. Quality control could package it better. I recommend it.
Sleek and low profile
Good value, especially when purchased on sale - I got the matte black on black. Pros: low profile and looks fancy. Cons: the 2 holes for mounting at the back should line up with studs considering the 8-hook fixture is long enough to do so. The screws provided are not long enough if drilling into drywall since there is a large gap between the wall and where the screw connects to the fixture, the stiffness of each hook is not consistent so some are rather loose and I could imagine that with heavy use, the hooks might not stay tucked up over time but that is just an assumption. Overall, I think this fixture is still great for what I need it for, I am just pointing out the minor flaws in design that someone else may also notice.
Loved this wall-mounted coat rack, it fits perfectly in our entryway. We ended up buying a second one because it's sleek, simple, and easy to hang. The instructions that come with it and the tools for hanging made it so easy. Umbra includes a paper measuring tape that I taped to the back of the rack. I used a pen to punch holes in the paper measuring tape where the nails go, then used scotch tape to put the measuring tape on the wall. We drilled holes in the wall in the exact spots and hung the whole thing in a matter of minutes without any measuring or calculations. SOOOOOO much easier than most other things we've tried to hang!
I purchased two of these racks, dark walnut and white and they are both beautiful and well crafted. It was easy to install. Walnut os in my bedroom to hang knick knack, my robe and daily gym clothes, items aren't heavy amd the rack is sturdy. The white is for my daughter's room and is not yet installed. Its looks like its glossy and with the silver pegs, also looks stunning. I think this rack is worth the price. Again, these are being in used for light items only. Can't really mention any issues around weight requirements. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.
Great spacing
I bought it a couple of weeks ago, since I already had one 8-hook flip wall mounted hook, but of a smaller size. The one I already had was full all the time and I needed extra space for children's clothes as well. Since it looked nice and was practical, I decided to order one more, paying zero attention to the measurements. So this one arrived and it was literally twice the size! I do find it extremely practical as well as nice-looking.The spaces between the hooks allow easy access and unused hooks can be folded nicely. The only disadvantage I would point out is the slight decrease in overall quality (compared to my older hook, the edges of the hooks are not ideally cut etc).
This is modern and attractive as a coat rack. I installed it by screwing a piece of painted wood into two studs in my drywall, and then installing the coat rack to the wood. That allowed me to center the coat rack where I wanted it, but still allowing for strong installation. The little hooks come down for use, but retract if not needed. My family of six uses all of them daily, but it's still a great design feature. we occasionally stack two coats on one hook, but I'm not sure I'd recommend this as a purse holder or a backpack holder because it's not an industrial strength item. If you need to hang heavy, heavy items you may want to consider a different item. Search Wayfair for a coat rack with the word "garage" in the name, which will bring up several good options. Overall, this item is attractive to hang in a room where you can enjoy its beauty, but get great use out of its functionality every single day. Highly recommended! Less
