It was super easy to install. And works alright. There still is a little bit of water that comes out or escapes after you pull the diverter to direct the water to the shower head.

Cannot be used with NPT

It seems like it would be good for slip fit but despite the packaging saying 1/2 NPT and the instructions showing you can unscrew the plastic slip fit sleeve, you simply can’t as it is epoxied together. When I looked up the part number on KOHLER’s website it only shows slip fit. Note to KOHLER, if you change specs of your product, change the packaging as well. I wasted over 30 minutes trying to take the sleeve out, which got all chewed up in the process so now it has to into a land fill.

DON'T BUY IT. FAULTY

Bought a house with this model of tub faucet. I don't know why this hasn't been pulled from the market. The diverter is incredibly faulty and if you pull ever so slightly too hard the whole thing falls out. Not to mention it leaks from the faucet giving only roughly 60% out if the shower head. Nothing like wasting water and money.

Didnt work on my installation. All the water leaked out the back against the wall , plus the piece that attaches to pipe , fell out in my hand and was very difficult to get back in All in all was a waste of money, it leaks and doesnt work properly

Our guest bathroom had a 'screaming' bath/shower faucet. We replaced it and this unit is heavier/better quality than the builder grade that was used in 2004 when the house was built. Finally can enjoy a quiet shower.

First, I was very happy that Home Depot carried this replacement part, because I couldn’t remember the brand when I installed it new. It was probably the only hardware store near me that carried it.

Deceiving package

Says universal on the package but when you try to unscrew the white adapter like it says to do, it refuses to unscrew. I had the old one off and now until I get back to the store to replace this one I have no shower. One of the answers in The question segment says the 85556 is slip on only and the 85555 is universal. Then on a different answer it says to remove the adapter. So even Kohler customer service can’t make up their mind.

This spout was easy to install and fit better than the original providing greater protection against water leaking behind the flange. I replaced a knock-off brand which began leaking at the diverter and preventing full pressure at the shower head. This new spout also drops out after the water is shut off draining the shower head and riser pipe.

Not great. Never fully diverts the water. And when the gasket fails, you can’t replace just the gasket. You have to buy a whole new diverter.

I thought Kohler was a high quality company, but this spout was made in China and when rod is pulled up for shower spray, the water continues to leak at a steady stream from the main opening. The old one this was to replace actually leaked far less. Sorry, but I can not recommend this product.

Great quality faucet

This was the 2nd bathtub spout w/diverter that I bought from Home Depot - had to return the first one because it was a slip-fit connection and we needed a threaded connection for our tub. Liked the design of the first spout more (Kohler Forte model), more modern look and had nice bevel edge on the wall -side, plus it was $5 cheaper! Was sad to return it for this plainer & pricier model. Glad that Home depot still has free returns, saves me a trip to the store to return it. Wish these were available in-store.

We bought this spout expressly for the diverter type. Looks fine and works as expected, but it wasn't easy to install because of the diverter mismatch. Had to buy plumbing parts to make this work properly.

Poorly designed diverter mechanism

I’ve had two of these spouts. The inner plastic diverter piece that pulls up with the metal handle failed on both allowing the metal pull handle to separate. Not sure if the issue is the high level of friction due to the poor design of the diverter or the plastic is too weak. I’d like a replacement part but can’t source it. Don’t want to spend another $120.00 due to a design fault.

Old spout with diverter was getting corroded and leaked. Put this on and ... it still leaks unless you pull up quickly. Was expecting more from Kohler. Old one needed a offset Philips screw driver because it was close to the tub, this one was easier for me because it has a button head screw (Allen). This fits our house, it was 5/8" OD copper pipe without a NPT fitting.

The part is supposed to be a universal connection with instructions for both a threaded connection and a slip on. Unfortunately the threaded option does not work, since the plastic parts will not unscrew (they seem to be glued on instead of screw on) so it won’t work on a threaded pipe.

First one spewed water worse than the spout I was replacing. Second one needed some help getting there but seems to be doing the job now. Disappointed that I had to return the first and less faith in the second. Choices were limited so I stuck with the model as I needed it in a hurry.

Diverter is ineffective

This product does not divert the water to the shower 100%. At most, it only diverts about 75% and has done so since it was installed. After replacing the pressure valve yesterday, I was about to purchase a new one thinking I just had a lemon, but based on all of the other reviews, they all do the same thing. Very disappointing that my only options are now to replace the entire shower set with a different brand that works correctly, or to have a mis-matched set.
