It is chrome and it is plastic. The quality overall was good and the fit was good as well. However, I was disappointed in the stopper itself as it is plastic with no rubber for the seat, this forces you to have to tighten very hard not to have the water leak out, then it is hard to get your fingers in the basket to loosen is. It should make a much better seal. If you want the water to stay in the sink you better have very strong hands or get a different product.
